What's new

CB Series (MCG) Australia V New Zealand

Tait finishes with 10-1-26-1 (econ rate of 2.64).

Sorry, did that on a guess. Here comes Clarke in the silly season overs - I'm guessing one of these two will try and hammer him.

Hodge drops what would have been the catch of the year! Great effort! :)

And it begins, Clarke is launched out to deep mid-off. Dropped by Stodge, very tough chance out in the deep. (And a pretty nice bird in a bikini behind him as well.)

And Clarke gets his man, Taylor charges down the pitch and tries to hit Clarke out of the ground. You miss, I hit. Taylor gone for 21.

BOWLED HIM! Clarke bowls Taylor.
Taylor out for 21. 4/212. The big hitting Oram is in. Here come the fireworks.
Clarke has bowled very well today. He deserves these wickets.

Here comes Big Jake. I hope we get rid of him quickly, before he gets set.

Big Jake hits Lee straight down the ground for six.

GONE! GREAT CATCH! WE HAVE GOT HIM! ORAM IS GONE!
Great catch By Brad Hodge in the outfield. Lee gets his second wicket. Trying to hit it over the long boundary. 5 down now.

Big Jake tries it again, but is caught at deep square. BIG WICKET!

Good hands from Stodge, he's taken some blinders this series. Shame he doesn't know which end of the bat to hold! :P

With Oram gone, our chances at keeping them to 300 have improved tremendously.

NZ 5/241 after 46.1

Next ball.... wide ball down legside. Very well stopped by Gilly.

5/243

This is probably the flattest pitch all summer - if Hodge is going to get a decent score, then today's the day

OUT! Good bowling from Clark. He bowled the low full toss which is hard to get away. Styris just couldnt get it out of the middle and is caught by Hussey for 34.
6/269 after 48 overs.

Lee misses the run out. Lee tried to throw it too hard and fast. He should have tried to throw it on the full.

Yeah rush of blood to the head there. Better death bowling in his last over though.

BOWLED! Clark bowls McCullum with a brilliant yorker. He is out for 19.
7/275

what do u guys think about the target? is it a challenging one?

Definitely - seeing as the highest run chase on this ground is 273. If Gilchrist fires, Oz will romp it home.

well, then it should be an interesting chase.

Lets hope Gilly doesnt get a ripper like the one he got against england.

Challenging target, but should be doable. I'd say NZ would be a bit disappointed as they were looking at 330+ at one stage.

A Gilly hundred on offer tonight? I think the luck will go his way tonight.

OZ 51 for no loss so far. Decent start.

Gilly gooooonnnnneee for 29 off 28 trying to hit Franklin into the MCG carpark.

Woeful fielding from Big Jake. That was very ungraceful.

GONE! Hayden is out trying to hit Franklin into the Stand! Good catch by Taylor.
He is gone for 28.
2/65

Two down now - Haydunce gone for 28, OZ 2-65 trying to pull Franklin to the mid-off boundary, hit straight to the fielder. What a moronic shot!

Brad Hodge in. If he fails tonight, he can kiss his World Cup hopes goodbye.
Edit: Sorry, Pup is in.

Truly farcical shot from Haydunce, he didn't really need to do that...

Pup in ahead of him. I think they want to protect Stodge from the new ball. :P

Good shot from Ponting. 1 bounce and four. Hitting it straight down the ground to mid off.

good match..had Symonds been playing i would have given the edge to AUS but now i think it's about even!

We're at exactly the same score as NZ after 22 overs - 111.

GONE! Clarke caught behind chasing a wide one. A big breakthrough! Well bowled by Vettori. He goes for 9.
3/112

Clarke gone, caught behind after a dodgy innings after changing his bat. 3-112.

WHy does Vettori always do so well against AUS?? i seriously don't see anything special in his bowling....

Vettori's a pretty good player. I rate him above that overrated Harbhajan Singh, who up till today is still living on that 2001 hatrick.

Hodge is not the kind of batsman you want when the required rr is 6.6

lets see how he does..........

Stodge manages a run and the crowd cheers!

As a player may be but as a bowler H Singh has a lot more ability....

That's 50 for Ponting. Once again a great 50 under pressure. Very well played

152 needed from 121. I wonder how long before they launch an assault - if they targetted 10 an over in the last 10 (so 100 in 60 balls) then they need to score about 50-odd in the 60 before that.

RR 8.06. OZ 3-146 so far. Stodge has managed 17 at a SR of 50.

Required RR 8.07

Thanks to Stodge

Australia require another 140 runs with 7 wickets and 17.2 overs remaining

444444444 from Ponting. I hope he doesn't get too crazy, we need him at the death.

Funnily enough both players have contributed 23 to this partnership, but Ponting has done it in 23 off 27, while Stodge has done it in 23 off 40.

I won't mind as long as Stodge protects his wicket and then hits out in the last 10. This is his home ground after all, he should know it inside out.

Not too worried about the RRR at this stage - I think we have the lower order hitters to score runs at 10+ in the last 10 as long as we have wickets in hand.
