What's new

Chief Selector and Head Coach Misbah-ul-Haq, The Revolutionary - Performance Watch

I don't know what is wrong with Misbah why can't he leave Pakistan cricket. He might be a good person but knowing about cricket is something else.

Now I think people will realise why Mickey was at least a better choice.

Because he's fooled a lot of people with this good person persona, he can help himself to some hefty paychecks.

LFMAO.

Where are the Misbah fans? What wonderful selections!

Have to say, no matter what. Misbah will ensure we will do the worst we can!

Hope he's got plenty of that beard dye that he uses on hand, because his hair is going to grow whiter and whiter.

These are the same people who were praising the lineup of Naseem Shah, Shaheen and Abbas.

I don't know why Abbas wasn't selected, but clearly there is more than one person who made that decision. Not just Misbah

Misbah’s choices!

Is there really not a single selectable bowler aged in his twenties?

Does the team have to be restricted just to grandpas and toddlers?

So the two bowlers whom Mickey would not have picked:

Imran has 3 maidens out of 20 overs.
Yasir has 1 maiden out of 40.

But Shaheen, the only quick tall enough for anyone sensible to select here, has 6 maidens out of 29.

Pretty sure I’ve seen bowlers getting compared on wickets they took, more than on the maidens they bowled. Yasir took 2 - Warner and Smith. How many did Shaheen take?

Bonus: Yasir was also one of the top scorers with the bat.

Doubt he actually cares, will be sat stroking his beard counting the dosh from his lavish salary.

Refer to Day One.

At The Gabba you get wickets only by building pressure through maiden overs.

Nothing else.

Literally every team Misbah has selected since becoming coach has had some absolutely unforgivable selections! Akmal, Shehzad, Irfan, Imran Khan. This torture isn't going to stop until Misbah is sacked.

Since the ODIs vs SL, every match has been a mauling. We haven't even competed...

Yes, I do.

I could select a Pakistan team that would not be in this situation.

There should be no Azhar, no Haris, no Yasir and no Imran.

Replace them with players suited to the conditions and Pakistan would have scored 350, and Australia would now be 150-2 in reply.

Yes, Australia would probably win.

But this is the wrong team with the wrong tactics and the wrong leader.

So you'd drop Azhar, the guy who averaged 70 odd the last time we toured here. Great judgment.

That was 3 years ago, you do realise that right?

Azhar's averaging in the 20s in the last couple of years. A guy like that would be struggling to hold on to his spot in the team but we made him captain.

Mind you I'm not sure if I would drop Azhar myself but there's a good argument for why he may deserve to be dropped.

It was Nasim who got Warner not Yasir.

Misbah fools everyone with his so-called master's degree and educational background. It's a joke. He's not an academic or a bright student or anything of the sort.

And this is coming from someone who has a master's degree, for whatever it's worth on a forum. He is not on par, sorry.

I find it funny how we actually had people who believed he would do better than Mickey.

It was Nasim who got Warner not Yasir.

My bad. Yasir got Burns.

Point remains that Yasir and Shaheen both took wickets at 50 a piece and Yasir took twice the wickets. Also made a huge contribution with the bat.

Then how has Shaheen been excellent and Yasir flopped?

Yasir went 4+ an over.

Speaking before beginning of Sunday’s opening session, Ponting said the decision not to give Shah more overs, as Australia compiled a formidable total, was “unacceptable”.

“This was completely unacceptable for mine, I really don’t understand the tactics of Pakistan yesterday,” Ponting told Channel 7. “We saw young Naseem early in the session really unsettle David Warner, he made it hard for him to score and eventually in that first four-over spell knocked David Warner over.”

“And then when Pakistan needed to keep taking wickets right through the course of the game we didn’t see the young man. “I don’t know if there’s something wrong with him, I don’t think he could be injured because he spent the whole day on the field. They had to keep taking wickets through the course of the game yesterday… now the game’s well and truly out of their reach,” he added.

Misbah and Wicky bhai strategy just like it was when they played....out freaking dated. Wasting talent per mr Ricky

Best way for Misbah to redeem himself

If he can have the guts to drop Azhar and Asad for the sri Lanka and Bangladesh home series.
Yes with their axing we might lose both series but their is no guarantee we will win with both in the team.

New players may grab their opportunities and may turn out to be better investment then the two for the away tours and it will keep others on the toes to give consistent performance.

Of course it will not happen but just wanted to put my two cents out there.

Guess we dont know the result of the 1st Test yet but the signs arent that good.

Play 3 quicks in australia and 4 in pakistan , some amazing brainstorming by team management

We are lucky to have this team management

Best cricket brain as Head coach + Best bowling coach in Gawalmandi + Best Captain who shouldn't have been sacked from ODI's.

Great day for Pakistan and Misbah comes out for the press conference... strange how he opted against that in Australia.

How long will Misbah’s tenure as Head Coach / Selector last?

How long will king Misbah reign? Who are other candidates for the job?

What was the point of dropping Hafeez and Malik and bringing them back for a Bangladesh series at home, I wonder....

Anyway, at least there are some plus points with Ahsan Ali, Amad Butt and Haris Rauf being selected.

Waiting for the excuses of the Misbah defenders who praised him for dropping Hafeez and Malik.

It was a mixed bag from Misbah again.

The selections of Amad, Rauf and Ahsan was positive.

The decision to drop Fakhar was fair, and Amir also needed to know his place is not secured.

The selections of Malik and Hafeez were regressive. It is true that there is a lack of options, but there is no point in going back to players that are finished and fail to show up when it matters.

Whilst he also is not amazing, i would have taken Talat over the seniors.

Well...he's given Hafeez and Malik yet another chance so that can fill their boots in vs. Bangladesh so that they can perform in Australia T20 WC as spectacularly as they did in England at the World Cup.

From full fledged board dysfunction and fighting over Wasim and Waqar dragging on their careers.....to this... hand wringing over banishing Hafeez and Malik.

Nothing captures quite aptly how low Pakistan wants to go.

Waiting for the excuses of the Misbah defenders who praised him for dropping Hafeez and Malik.

They are saying misbah didn't have an option and now backing him, but when they were dropped they were celebrating as if Eid has come early for them. Saying a lot of rubbish. Now they are calling hafeez the best player of fast bowling. Just like their master then are also shameless by the looks of it.

They'll call it a master stroke.

Don't like him. Won't like him. However he's a sort of guy who comes off as hardworking. Not the smartest tool in the shed, but a tool that you can rely upon if needed.

Do not feel that he's the guy who can take Pakistan cricket to the next level. The thought processes so far have been super muddled - drops seniors on a difficult away tour, bring them back on a comparatively easier home tour.

The management team that Pakistan has employed at all levels looks dated. Watched a video of Ijaz Ahmed overlooking a training session for the U19 boys and it was so uninspiring. The coach standing there, meandering, hands in pockets or wrapped around his belly while the bowlers are going about their job. Mushy telling batsmen how to bat against spinners, and literally no guidelines, tramlines for the bowlers to target to learn where to pitch the ball or the batsmen areas to hit.

While just spread sheet cricket coaching isn't a way to go, there has to be mix and match and some inventive thinking involved. And the management needs to stop bowing down to media mafia. All senior players are well aware and able to exert pressure on PCB from external parties. It's shambolic to say the least how easy it is to blackmail the "PCB kay karta dhartas" for such matters. (This is not a proven statement, it's a sentiment and if proven wrong, I'd be happy to take back this claim)

Misbah has shown the world that he is totally incapable as a coach and selector. It reminiscence his captaincy, which was purely reactive and defensive, and led us to our world ODI & T20 ranking in history. Unfortunately, you can predict the same thing from Misbah the coach and selector now. He will bring down Pakistan cricket. This ***** broke the winning formula in selection that gave Pakistan #1 tanking in T20. He keeps going back to TTF in every single squad with 50% of the squad being new addition when compared to previous series. The latest Bangladesh T20 series selection is no different, with atlast 6 players selected who were not there in the previous series. His selection lacks consistency and vision, and his coaching is purely as defensive as his batting and captaincy.

Absolutely dark days ahead for Pakistan cricket with Misbah at helm.

‘Misbah being groomed by PCB officials to handle media’

LAHORE: Head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has been advised to learn the art and techniques of handling the press and two key officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are working with him to groom the former captain in the said area, it was learnt on Tuesday.

According to the latest documents of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the point about Misbah’s inability to handle the media was raised by one of the members of the Board of Governors in the last meeting of the BoG.

Interestingly, when a top official of the PCB was informing the members of the BoG about Misbah’s abilities to take Pakistan cricket forward and his ideas and plans for domestic cricket, a BoG member pointed out that there was a need to train Misbah in the art of handling the press. To that, the PCB high official took a U-turn and said that the PCB has made similar observations and he himself along with another top Board official in the media department were already working on the issue.

However, it must be mentioned here that though Misbah has faced flak from the critics over his selection and coaching, it is to his credit that Misbah has dealt very calmly and quite well with the media, even in the face of some harsh questions.

But it is, indeed, quite puzzling that when the same management of the PCB, which has shown tremendous confidence and trust in Misbah by giving him absolute powers in selection and coaching, admitted to the ex-skipper’s handicap in handling the media instead of defending him in front of the BoG.

Misbah’s tenure so far in his newly-acquired roles has been much below par as Pakistan lost the T20 series against a young Sri Lanka at home last year in November followed by the successive losses in the T20s and the Test in Australia as well.

Now the upcoming home series against Bangladesh, starting with three T20 matches series in Lahore from Jan 24, is the third assignment for Misbah.

So far as chief selector, he has not shown much wisdom and has taken many controversial decisions, mainly of recalling opener Ahmed Shehzad and middle-order batsman Umar Akmal against Sri Lanka who failed to click, and now recalling all-rounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez for the Bangladesh T20s.

However, on both the occasions, Misbah faced some hard questions from the media but kept his composure quite well.

PCB should make a rule for no press conference and just announce the squad on TV to support Misbah.

Someone at the PCB also needs to train him how to select a squad and the tactics & strategy required to win at cricket.

Dropped Hafeez and Malik for Aus tour. Now they will play against mighty Bangladesh.

This guy along with his 75 fans are shameless.

Hafeez has been out of the T20I for over a year and his recent domestic T20 performances have been mediocre at best. Whilst Malik can barely swing a bat these days.

So there is no guarantee that they will fill their boots against mighty Bangladesh. Just makes their inclusion even more questionable. This Misbah guy is so shameless.

Bangladesh with out Shakib and Mushfiqur is giving us tough time. Thank you Misbah :14:

Mickey Arthur's views on Misbah as Coach-CS

PakPassion.net: Chief Selector, Head Coach of Pakistan and Head Coach of a PSL side, that’s a lot of responsibility for Misbah-ul-Haq isn’t it?

Mickey Arthur: It is a lot of responsibility. Although in my time with Pakistan I didn’t have all those roles, but I did sit alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq and the selection panel and we had an unbelievable relationship. Having experienced the whole sequence and process of interacting with players and the selectors, I can say that it’s a hell of a lot of work. I don’t think people realise the magnitude of the whole job until you are in it. Your communication skills are tested to the hilt and that’s one thing you have to stay on top of, and you have to keep all the stakeholders informed all the time. So, for Misbah, communication is going to be the key to make it all work, but I am pretty sure he has it all under control.

PakPassion.net: Do you think Misbah-ul-Haq has the skills and capabilities to be successful in all three aforementioned roles?

Mickey Arthur: It is a lot to ask of any person but Misbah knows Pakistan cricket and he is well respected and to top it all, he is a very intelligent man. If there is anyone who could make it work in such a role, I feel that person would be Misbah-ul-Haq.

So you satisfied with his choice of Central Contract players?

Yes I am! Misbah has been brilliant so far although it's been a short period of time. Loving the players he picks - like the Haider Ali in emerging category was a great recommendation from Misbah.

He makes the occasional error, like selecting Irfan or not putting Fawad into the starting 11 in tests but overall he's done a great job.

One last thing , I really like how he along with Waqar and Wasim Khan are all putting priority on test cricket. This is the right thing to do, it's the only way we will maintain respect and further develop as a cricketing nation.

The Test team is going to have too many passengers with Azhar Ali, Yasir Shah and the perennial loser Asad Shafiq. Ifti is a dubious pick but I guess Misbah wanted another one of his pals in that category.

Occasional error? What would you say about randomly selecting Umar Akmal and Shehzad and then dropping them after 2 matches?

Dropping Hafeez and Malik for the away tour but then recalling them for the easier home matches?

Selecting Musa for Test cricket in Australia when it’s obvious he wasn’t ready. True we didn’t have many alternatives but why pick Musa when it was clear from the domestic tournament that he wasn’t yet a Test bowler and his height would be a hindrance in Australia.

They defo need to look for a spinner need to take zafar gohar or Bilal asif on board with national team. Usman allahuddin omair bin yousuf is another haider ali can be in a few years

Another series defeat to a top 5 side. While we celebrate useless milestones like Azhar's century, I'm angry about this defeat.

This was a completely winnable series and Misbah and Azhar have made a complete mess of it.

Exactly, handed over a series to England after 10 years but lets throw up threads congratulating Azhar Ali who was celebrating as though he'd won the WC.

Yes, it was a wonderful knock in isolation and rain hampered the series but where's the outrage over this meek surrender?

Honestly I prefer watching England (due to Sky coverage) and West Indies (exciting pace attack unlike our overhyped dramaybaaz).

Our cricket culture is toxic from our players' inability to develop barring the odd exception, worshilping of seniority, dead domestic pitches, crap appointments of unqualified and unproven coaches, loudmouth ex-players etc.

Have you read Azhar's interview? The guy was lauding himself. One should ask him, based on what? He's failed miserably last three years, if he has any shame he should have resigned today.

Sickens me that we threw a goddamn easy series we should have won.
