Chris Gayle breaks Shahid Afridi’s record for most sixes in international cricket

So Hitman has broken the record for maximum maximums in about 100 less matches.

but am sure SA would have hit those maximums in a lot lesser deliveries faced.

Yup.

Also, India have many small grounds. Easier to hit sixes. :inti
Out of all the cope diamonds on loop as above on this thread, this one is the inter galactic deep truth creme-a-la-creme.....

....njoing the absolute jalan smoke coming out to justify why his 'fav' nations players should never come near any record of any sort.....

imagine how much could be added onto the host nation's economy if that same brainpower and creativity could be put to better use

The Pakistani writer Osman Samiuddin once wrote that Afridi is a very " Pakistani sort of hero ". Its difficult for non Pakistanis to understand why he has such cult status in Pakistan
That's fair. He is over hyped by many in Pakistan too. But we did criticise him a lot too. I was quite vocal against him on PP. But we can re-evaluate after their career is over with cooler heads.

There are some sportsman that capture the emotions of fans. If you had the feeling in your younger days of Afridi is still to bad and that feeling that anything can happen - even 1% chance as you get glued to the screen and occasionally, just very occasionally you witness something that just should not have happened and the most audacious heist taking place that defies any logic, then it'd hard to forget that and focus on stats alone.

What u wrote in the 2nd para is exactly why Shahid Afridi is such a cult figure in Pakistan but outside Pakistan such feelings are difficult to understand

This mindset of supporting a player bcoz of " 1% chance " of pulling of an upset is a uniquely Pakistani thing. Most other countries have general preference for consistent excellence. Thats why Afridi played 500 games bcoz he was born in Pakistan. In any other country he wud have not lasted more than 3-4 years - unless he changed himself
