I'm ever amazed by how dreamy are your expectations of tailenders. So all that's required of him is that he become the world's best no 7? And he will do this just by practicing a lot? But we don't actually need an opening strike bowler capable of taking wickets? Because right now, with Amir's form being what it is, we don't have one. No one like Starc, or Steyn, or even a Shami. If he can do about as well as he has in domestics with the ball (ave 18) then he should already be guaranteed a spot.

With hard work he could improve his batting to be a Number 7.

But that is much more likely than him growing the extra 6 inches of height that he would need to have any chance of making it as an international bowler.

What kind of a weird philosophy is this. So what if xyz player does this defensive batting everyday. His job is to go out there and score runs. If he cant take a single off ten balls, it is a symptom of a wider disease. I will wait till bowler makes a mistake, because my shots are so limited, or my courage is so low that I cant maneuver it to anywhere for a single.
