What's new

Congratulations Bangladesh!

Played fearless cricket and only one team looked like they were going to win this match.

They have spirit, they have young cricketers who fight for the cause and they have a few battle-hardened world-class cricketers.

Great to see.

Thank you all. This was a great preparation. The Tri-series was so important. And Shakib. Taking responsibility coming at #3.

Why do people have a problem with everything? Bangladesh has never reached the heights the Indian cricket team has so for them, this win is big.

It's not 2000's anymore. BD are competent side however fans still treat them as minnows. Mentality is the biggest reason for champions..

The time for considering one win as big should have been long gone before 2015. But if BD fans and Players still believe 1 Win is big win then they will never become a champion side.

Excellent points there, Bangladesh look a determined and mature side now, they are letting their cricket do the talking. Great to see. First the tri series win and now this.

This is just the beginning of the tournament, let’s see how boys perform in the next game. Disappointed Soumya didn’t get to his double ton :don

They have made some good progress since the 2015 World Cup. They have become very competitive against better teams.

Great win. They looked like an extremely professional side today and dealt with the pressure of the World Cup super well. Definitely not minnows.

Mighty congratulations indeed to this very professional Bangladesh team on such a clinical display of cricket! The hitting in the last four overs by Mahmudullah and others proved to be decisive difference between the teams, otherwise South Africa looked in control if the target had been below 315. The dropped catch of Mahmadullah in the 47the over I think hurt them badly. Brilliant slogging apart from that chance. That six by Mahmadullah off Rabada will stay in my memory for some time to come. What an excellent shot!

Although nothing beats for me watching a partnership between Dhoni and Yuvraj, but I tell you, watching Shakib and Mushfiqur bat together comes very close for me. What a delight they`re! Possibly my most pair since 2014 or so.

In ODIs since October 2016 the ever-improving Bangladesh have beaten:

South Africa
Pakistan
New Zealand 2 times
Sri Lanka 3 times
West Indies 7 times
England

Another excellent win for Bangladesh. Well done.

Well done Bangladesh... Very mature and very good all round. Excellent!!!

Congrats BDesh...

Such kind of threads and bumping such threads after one win in an iCC tournament shows the mentality of people against BD cricket team.

Would you see threads made after India winning 1 match while the tournament is still ongoing?

BD is a very competent side and it's silly to make and bump such threads after every win. I think BD fans should ask for nothing less than a WC win, if you aim for zenith only then you become best in world.

Having said that since the thread is already there congratulations to BD for win, but remember this is just a start

Well done Bangladesh from WI

Well done BD. Good win today.

This is a big win, and they dominated South Africa brilliantly congratulations.

Thanks
We hope that our players can carry the high expectations from now on.

That six was really eye pleasing. Mahmudullah is an elegant player indeed

They keep on getting better and better and proving us wrong. Everyone initally thought they would be just home track bullies but then they started winning games outside Bangladesh but still in Asia, then they started winning games/series outside Asia as well. Outplayed SA today. Capable of beating Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan for sure. I didn't expect them to beat SA, I thought the pressure of the WC would get to them but now they definitely have a chance of making semi's.

You make a good point. I thought this was unnecessary to bump this thread after winning just one match. I know its a big win but I would like to see such a thread bumped after we win bilaterals, tri series or world cups OR atleast make it to the next round.

Unfair to compare with India though. India have been playing since 1940s. We got our test status in 2000. India won a WC in 1983 to boot.

Thank you for the list. During this tenure, in test match cricket, they have also beaten:

Australia
England
Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka
West Indies

Having watched the shambles that is Bangladesh cricket for nearly 20 years its genuinely heartwarming to finally see them turn a corner and put in solid performances like this. I know this is not a one off and yes they’ve beaten some big names before but now they seem clinical and well organised. When wins like this seem routine then it only bodes well for the World Cup and future of Bangladesh cricket.

(Sad that we on the other hand just seem to be regressing)

I agree not comparing with India per say what I meant is that fans need to change their mindset and treat BD team as a competent force in cricket. Bumping after 1 win when tournament just begun shows how fans still consider them as minnows.

Anyways hopefully a good showing here and the mindset of fans will change.

I am surprised that Bangladesh winning in ODI's still surprises fans. They have a very good side in ODI's. Take them lightly at your own risk. :inti

Its not BD fan who bumped it. Anyways if fans still think we are minnows it's their problem.

Congratulating after just one world cup win..this is why this team will always be minnows
