What's new

Congratulations Rohit Sharma [First ODI 250]

One-day cricket in India is a terrible farce.

WOW this is amazing 2nd double ton hats off to sharma.

kohli, Amla, Devillers are just looking for 100s, but this guy is in different league :srt

Amazing DOUBLE TON but Sri lanka have just been so so poor, he's been dropped 2 times now

On a lighter note, he's scored more runs than Shehzad did during an entire day. :91:

Holy crap. Just tuned to Cricinfo and saw the headline Rohit Sharma smashes highest ODI score :O

I have not witnessed anything like this in Cricket. No player in world Cricket today can even dream of achieving this !

Some cleanest hitting ever witnessed!!

Having said that, there've been 4 ODI double hundreds ever, & all 4 have been scored by Indians in India. No doubt Indian PM's 'Make in India' is being taken seriously by Indian cricket team ;-)

This is crazy stuff. This is madness. How the hell even on flat tracks does he score double and he is going for a freaking triple here.

flat tracks or not....this is special special special batting !!

We have seen flat tracks in 100's of matches..nobody has even come close to this...

Is this cricket ODI cricket in INdia and that too b.w SL and InD #No mercy for trundlers

That Tendulkar 200 took genuine effort, all of the other three are just gifted on a platter by some crapola bowling.

Congrats Rohit for an entertaining and record knock . Hope this excellent form also continues in WC2015 .

Congracts to him.

Always liked him personally as well - one of the few down to earth Indian players.

One day cricket in India must be terribly boring

Give the bowlers a chance

You've got to give credit where it's due, brilliant batting combined with some horrible bowling and even worse fielding.

Eden Garden is a low spinning track always...so its not as flat as say Bangalore.

Amazing hitting
Big Boss you still think Younus is better than Rohit in ODIs :))

Say what you want about the pitches but it still is an incredible feat to score so many runs!

India couldnt chase 250 2 years against Pak on this track - it spins more later so I doubt Sri Lanka will even get 300 of India bowls tight.

Gotta give credit where due, no one playing today could have matched what Rohit did today.

It was later on in the year, apparently the wickets in India are all flat during this time of year. Am I correct Indian PPers?

Congrats to him.

Personally though this just highlights how garbage ODI cricket in India has become. Lets remove any semblance of threat for the batsmen and watch average players blast a 200. Just a longer version of t20.

Dont know if its just me but I find boundaries on these pitches yawn inducing, wheres the excitement when its so one sided???
Thivagar will be happy though, perera going at over 6 :D

Different conditions, different weather.

Ball does a little bit under the lights but then there will be lots of dew as well.

Remember a match at Edenwhere Salman Butt scored a 100 and Pakistan chased down 295?

Just read
To reach fifty he took 72 balls & next 214 in 101 balls. Dimply unbelievable.

Bah Gawd Almighty

This i ridiculous , what kind of pitch and ground is this. I mean why has it become so easy to score a double in one day where even a 100 used to be a rare achievement.

Though credit where due, its not easy to score 200 even on a phatta wicket

Congrats to him.

Many consider Rohit more talented than Kohli, Rahane and Pujara.

Bloody hell, I glanced at the score earlier and thought he had a shot at 200 but I never thought for a split second that 250 was on.

Flat pitch and crappy bowling or not, that is an absolutely incredible achievement.

Congrats to him.

As far as I know all the players from the other get to play in the same pitch..and that too against indian bowling !!

did anybody score a 200??

So you believe that the match is on? The wicket won't turn South African in the second innings, isn't it? :13:

Can't see this record ever being broken.

All records are meant to be broken. Funny thing, he's now probably the biggest contender of breaking that record now. When he gets in zone, he is just something to celebrate.

Absolutely! i was telling this in the match thread too. This kind of batting is special ANYWHERE in the world. Everybody gets flat tracks, to score 264 in a 50 over game is absolute carnage.

Such a clean hitter of the ball once he is set. Bats in #Beastmode

Saw this on cricinfo

"He got to his 50 off 72, 100 off 100, 150 off 125, 200 off 151 and 250 off 166. Phew. He was coming back from a finger injury sustained in England in August. His timing with the bat is out of this world, but his timing with injuries is pretty bad. There were questions whether Ajinkya Rahane, who hadn't done badly at all with a century in England, should replace him as opener. Talk about reclaiming your spot."

What The....lol.. Poor lankas, two double hundreds against them.. Btw congrats Rohit.. Its an amazing achievment nonetheless.. Really deserve a smiley in PP now

But one reason i will rate this innings not as highly as it should be, is because of the meaninglessness of this ODI.
JAMODI no one cares about. Series decided, no pressure.

Had this been in a WC, even if it were in the group stages, Rohit would be the #Boss.
The presssure of playing in the WC is something else.

Stop hiding behind flat track excuses to belittle his performance. India has bowled out Sl for less than 250 twice in 3 games on those very pitches.

Records broken by Rohit Sharma today en route to making 264
1. Overtook Virender Sehwag (219) to record the highest individual score in ODIs.
2. Overtook Shikhar Dhawan (248) to record the highest List-A score by an Indian.
3. First player to record two double-hundreds in ODIs.
4. Most number of fours scored in an innings by a batsman, surpassing Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 25 fours each.
5. Most number of runs (186) scored in boundaries (fours and sixes).
6. Second highest List-A score by a batsman in cricket, after Ali Brown(268).
7. Second fastest double-hundred in ODIs, in 151 balls, after Virender Sehwag(140 balls).

1. Sachin vs South Africa
2. Sehwag vs West Indies
3. Rohit vs Australia and Sri Lanka

^^

True..either these are not flat tracks...or we have a legendary bowling to take wickets consistently on flat tracks !

Amazed....

The ODI pitches are crazy but this is an unreal innings...

250...what the hell

It's tiring really. Guess some people on here just can't handle any success that comes India's way. We do well, call the pitch flat, doesn't matter if opposition gets rolled over in the same pitch.

This is why the most sub standard batsman such as Dhawan get centuries on phatta pitches in India and 10 years later are seen as ATG :91: when they can't even hold a bat in non SC conditions.

I saw Jame Faulkner score a century in India last year.

Bowlers shouldn't bother even turning up

Congratulations to Rohit Sharma :14:. Scoring 260 on any kind of wicket is a big achievement. I give him a lot of sh1te for being an FTB but still needs skill to score that many in an ODI match. With that said, he is still an FTB though. I don't see him scoring any kind of runs in Australia against Mitch and co.

There's a difference in pitches from that series.

They are definitely more helpful for batsman but its not what you're making it out to be. Its a 300-320 pitch, so for a batsman to score 264 on it is a pretty damn good achievement.

True. Reminds me of the biggest match-winner ever :inzi

Fair. I don't want to sound like I'm belittling Sharma. He's very talented and this is regardless of the conditions a great performance.

It just that, as a fast bowler myself, I don't find the sort of matches where these sort of things are possible that appealing.
I haven't watched any ODIs in India since that Australia series and they were shockers

Let me reiterate that this is a fantastic knock, but those asking why I consider him average and why these pitches are destroying ODI cricket and the art of bowling need to see these stats.

Australia 15 ODI's Average 26
Bangladesh 10 ODI's Average 29
Ireland 2 ODI's Average 8
England 7 ODI's Average 38
NZ 7 ODI's Average 37
Pakistan 6 ODI's Average 29
SA 8 ODI's Average 12
Sri Lanka 21 ODI's Average 14
West Indies 14 ODI's Average 54
Zimbabwe 8 ODI's Average 58

Excellent in Zimbabwe and West Indies, decent in Eng/NZ and sub par everywhere else away from home.

India chased down 320 in 36 overs in Sri Lanka. Aussie pitches are then probably the worst.
