What's new

Congratulations Sachin Tendulkar on hundred 100s! [Finally!]

Congratulations Sachin great achievement. The gloss has been taken off by the losing performance as a team but no one can deny the greatness of the batsman over history.

For God's sake retire now though, like Dravid it's time to move on gracefully.

Let him stay for the England Tests. Broad and Anderson need their bunny. Especially since Anderson needs to take his wicket just once more to be the only bowler who has dismissed him most times in international cricket as opposed to sharing it with Murali I believe.

He played for records, no doubt. But I have this funny feeling that he will start playing freely now that he has gone over his record fetish. This might just work out for India - let's see on Sunday. And for Indian fans - it's not a jinx

Just woke up an hour ago and missed the match. and When I opened the cricinfo I was shocked... Howa kia? :O :))) :))) :)))

Too bad Sachin's selfish century cost India 20-30 runs and the match. Anyways, the bowlers are to blame as well not just Sachin. If you can't defend 290 then you may not defend 20 more runs too.

Anyway i am sorry for sachin , i really dont think anyone can come closer to 100 100s.
But no mercy for hardcore sachinstas. :)

It's meaningless to combine ODI and test stats. This stat is just something that somebody thought was cool and it ended up spreading like wildfire.

Congrats to the little master.

What scares me now is that he'll have this pressure off his mind. He might really put a beating down on Pakistan, this sunday.

Hopefully, :ajmal will take care of him. :D

This 100 will probably not be the source of happy memories the Indians would have wanted it to be...

Please, pray that Ajmal doesn't use a doosra against SRT.

The English media will cry foul and moan about chucking when Ajmal does well against us. The BCCI will have him suspended for an illegal action.

Thank god he scored hundred otherwise BCCI was planning to organize a bilateral series with Bermuda after asia cup.Jokes apart he is one of the greatest player to have played the game but his retirement is long overdue hope annoucement comes after Asia cup.

Great work done by Bangladesh in letting Sachin score 100. They knew if Sachin scored 100, India would lose :P

I actually feel sad for him. Smart work from the Bangla bros though, letting him get a century and then destroying their bowling attack! :D

One of the greatest players I have seen pick up the bat.

Just above Lara in my opinion.

Both are/were selfish, but that's what makes them great I suppose.

Well done Sachin........Congrats......Finally the monkey (media and fans) off the back...........
we would like to see some (more) free flowing innings before you retire .....

:))) :))) :))) :)))

OH GOD! this is toooo good :)))

He scores a 100, against bangladesh, on a flat track,

and goes on to lose his team the game :)))

Thread 1 - Sachin 0 :))

That's a very common sort of saying mate. To tell your grandchildren stories of cool things you've done.

And he does have kids I believe.

yeah i know what u meant i just cracked a joke at Tendu, that where will his Grandkids come from if no children first.

OH WOW, I totally didnt know India played yesterday till i came on PP today was out all night last night,,, EPIC what a legendddd.. Thank you once again Indian bowlers for showing up as always, India a 1 MAN SHOW............

Ahhh who cares man, ,,,,, I can understand criticism etc but when it comes to Pakistanis etc I am on auto pilot; whenever they criticize SRT, to me it holds no value as I have already made up my mind and realise its all jealousy so whether they call him selfish etc I give it zero value.. However if fans from other countries criticize SRT I would always wait a moment and think from their point of view......

Long live the LEGEND, king of kings................

whatta player!!!

Zabardast, I was late leaving for work today morning - Had to give respect to SRT by watching him complete his 100th hundred.

The best part is - the extreme humbleness SRT showed when he reached the milestone. If there is anybody who deserves it, its SRT.

Congrats to the little master on this great achievement! Glad I stayed awake to watch his milestone.

The man has achieved everything a cricketer could possibly ask for and after the Asia cup he should hang up his boots and walk away on a high.

Few of the sachinstas are still trying to defend his 100th 100. :))) :)))
If there is any oscar award for selfish play , sachin might have been nominated for his 100th 100. :D

Feels like this thread has a lot to die for indians defeat yesterday (indirectly via Sachin).

:)))

The next Downfall parody should be 'Hitler finds out that Sachin's 100th 100 lost India the match'

do you even know what I meant in that post? I am guessing not...and your post is baseless. Keep crying...do you want me to direct you to PP's favorite remedy for your condition (talking about burnol if you dont get that too). :akhtar

whatever you meant in the post is irrelevant to me...i jsut gave you a reality check if ever pak lost to bang you lot would be crying fixing ....

Congratulations Sachin - I have huge respect for him due to his humble nature. Despite his long career, there have been few controversies regarding him, and with the Indian media being around him all the time, that itself is an achievement.

Having said that, his 100th 100 was poor. He really was amongst the leading causes India were humiliated yesterday. I normally do not attribute losses to people who score centuries in ODIs but against the young Bangla attack on a flat track, surely a player as talented as Sachin could have taken a few more risks. He knew there were a lot of good players to come after him, even if he did get out. Clearly, the personal milestone got into his head unfortunately.

who is sore here?? we were beaten by bangla fair and square... talk about you lot who still cry fixing over the wc sf

You are just looking for good comebacks for all the ridicule you guys have been getting. When I said fixed I was referring to a word in his sentence not the game :))) go and read that part again.

you told this to me in your earlier post i got it then and replied..... no one is looking for a comeback here all of us have accepted the defeat and are living with it....

Where is Random Aussie? I want to know his reaction on this ton and the match's result. :D

Many Congratulations to Sachin......What an achievement!.....What a player!......Great Player on the field and a great human being off the field....no player in the cricketing world can match SRT

'Have to admit I was relieved' - Tendulkar

In the early hours of Saturday morning, word spread that Sachin Tendulkar was going to address the Indian press around noon at the team hotel in Dhaka. Several journalists began to wonder why. He had already spoken, at a longer than usual press conference, on Friday night about the 100th hundred and the defeat to Bangladesh. Was there going to be a major announcement?

There was not, but he was even more candid as he spoke to around a dozen print journalists in a small, tightly guarded hall at the hotel. A photojournalist first presented him with a cake, with "Tons of love for the Master" written on it, and then fumbled with nervousness trying to fix in candles reading 100 X 100. Looking relaxed in a casual T-shirt, Tendulkar waited patiently, before blowing out the candles and taking a bite of the cake, and then taking questions.

Even as the reporters vied with each other to get their say in a rare interaction with the biggest name in Indian cricket, Tendulkar stayed calm and answered eloquently. Over the past year, even as India tumbled to new lows in England and Australia, Tendulkar stayed away from the media, not fronting up a single press conference. His was an influential voice, and he had not wanted to increase the already relentless, and sometimes perspective-less, coverage of the latest of his many landmarks.

"This anticipation and disappointment when I didn't get (the 100th hundred) was way greater than anything else. I don't know how to explain to you. I wish there was someone to guide me about how to deal with this," he said, sounding helpless, as if he was faced with a new and intractable problem.

Tendulkar, though, has been in the centre of the media spotlight longer than his current vice-captain has been alive. As long ago as 1988, some were asking whether he was the greatest schoolboy cricketer ever , and his coach was upset about the distractions faced by the 15-year-old Tendulkar.

It showed that even for someone who had almost casually shouldered the impossible demands of his fans for over two decades, and already owned most of the batting records worth owning, the expectations and media pressure can weigh heavy. "I have to admit I was relieved. This is now out of the way and I can start a new chapter. It was possibly the toughest phase of my life. There was so much hype and attention about the 100th hundred. I thought I possibly batted the best in my life, got close in a couple of games but I couldn't achieve it."

An instance of particular disappointment? "In Delhi (where he made a second-innings 76 against West Indies), I went in to bat in the second innings, it was a critical phase and we won that game but people were only talking about how I missed my hundred."

As the brouhaha over the pending milestone increased, and the team slid from its No. 1 Test ranking, Tendulkar said the support of his family and friends kept him going, especially that of his brother and mentor Ajit. "I talk a lot about cricket with my brother. He has guided me throughout and this is something I want to dedicate to him. We have lived our dream together. Whenever I went in to bat I knew that mentally he was always there with me."

Aside from the hundredth hundred, when asked, he duly produced a list of favourites. Perth 1992, Chennai 2008, Manchester 1990, Chennai 1999, Sydney 2004 were his favourite Test innings, a comical bit of running with Anil Kumble that miraculously didn't end up in a run-out against Bangladesh in 2004 counted as his funniest on-field incident. The only question he hedged on was when asked to pick a hypothetical best bowling attack. "You need one ball to get out," he joked, "I can name at least 25 different bowlers."

The promised 15 minutes with Tendulkar was stretched to 20, at which point the media manager firmly brought an end to the interaction. Those hoping to get Tendulkar's views on the defeats in England and Australia, or even Sunday's make-or-break match against Pakistan, were disappointed. Before being ushered out, several of the journalists, even those that had repeatedly and recently questioned Tendulkar's place in the team, lined up for autographs.

you told this to me in your earlier post i got it then and replied..... no one is looking for a comeback here all of us have accepted the defeat and are living with it....

maybe for once in his life

Delusional much? You are just mad at your "world class" team being beat and you somehow cant digest it. Instead of shutting up you come here and suggest that its better than fixing games...that's totally irrelevant. Lets see how long you can keep that one argument and continue to look look like an ass.

Achieved it against a 'quality' bowling attack... Brilliant. Indeed... What an achievement.

Most of us are already moved on from the defeating and gave credit where it is due... unlike you lot who still create threads after one year saying the mohali match was fixed...,

LOL you just wanted to use the word butt hurt, because it doesn't go with anything I have said. Someone probably used that on you because of your over-reaction. I aint even mad, you are the one who came crying talking about match fixing, while I was talking about fixing a word in a sentence. I think the real root to your anger problem is the word fixing, and yeah an ESL class wont hurt either.

Advice: calm-down.

:yk

Oh no! What a comeback. How am I going to recover from another answer by you that doesn't relate to my post?

(sarcasm).

It is not Sachin's fault that he played slow for his 100th hundred. He had the weight of the world over him. It is the fault of Indians/Sachinistans who cherish 100th 100 more than winning.

A selfish innings is one which is played for a record no one cares about (not the case here) or one done to save one's career

played with much more freedom vs pak once the record was done and dusted. that upper cut six off cheema was vintage tendulkar.
