Cricket versus Baseball

Cricket is played by a small pool of nations mostly countries who were part of the British Empire, the Commonwealth. Why is baseball limited to a few countries, I mean countries who are really good at it like Japan, Cuba etc? Despite the fact that it's been featured in mainstream American media, Hollywood/TV etc. In contract many more people around the world admire and play basketball due to the NBA...but why not MLB?

Baseball is boring. That's why.

Cricket is actually played by 100+ countries. It is not just a small pool of nations.

Subcontinent alone probably has over 1-billion fans of cricket.

USA was never an colonial power in the same way that UK was, I guess.

NBA is immediately exciting while b-ball is quite cerebral. The more you learn the better it gets, but it is not for casual fans.

I guess it's mostly expats who represent the 100+ nations.

It has the potential to become a major sport in the sub-continent because of cricket. I mean players in our part of the world learn the mechanics of throwing and hitting at an early age which can help them in baseball.

I might be wrong but I always thought if we can be good at any other team sport it would be baseball rather than soccer or basketball. Remember that movie "Million Dollar Arm".

I do not think baseball can replace cricket anytime soon.

Cricket is just too ingrained in subcontinent. People live and breathe cricket in this part of the world.

Baseball is simply too boring compared to cricket.

It's one area where we can stand toe to toe with the Americans and as they say.. beat them in their own game. That will bring a lot of pride and respect to the nation.

Pakistanis can especially be really good at pitching. Just imagine if Akhtar was a pitcher.

It’s a different sort of mechanics. MLB pitchers overload their tendons before release, stretch them. Starting pitchers can only play one match out of five throughout a season for that reason.

American sports are comical.

The players are all padded up in "American Football". It is like sissified rugby.

Baseball is sissified cricket. Big ball; fielders use gloves; full-toss only.

Cricket players are also padded up and helmets. So now what!!!? Is cricket “sissified”??

Hahahaha. Wicket keeper are padded up batsman also. Cricket is less violent than American football.

World Series 2022: Philadelphia Phillies beat Houston Astros 6-5 as game one goes to extra innings

The Philadelphia Phillies overcame an early 5-0 deficit to and beat the Houston Astros 6-5 in game one of the best-of-seven World Series.

Kyle Tucker smashed two home runs to put hosts Houston in control after three innings at Minute Maid Park.

But Philadelphia rallied in the fourth to make it 5-3 and JT Realmuto's two-RBI double tied it at 5-5 in the fifth.

Extra innings were needed but catcher Realmuto homered in the 10th and the Phillies clung on for a nervy victory.

Game two of the best-of-seven World Series takes place on Saturday evening at the same venue.

It was all going Houston's way when Tucker twice lifted Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola over the right-field fence, with a solo home run in the second inning and a three-run shot in the third for a 5-0 lead.

At that stage, Astros starter Justin Verlander had not allowed a hit, but the Phillies' bats woke up in the fourth as Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm drove in runs to reduce the deficit to two before Realmuto levelled.

Indeed, the Astros were glad to still be level at the seventh-inning stretch after Castellanos struck out with the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the ninth, Houston's Jose Altuve stole second base but was left stranded when Castellanos' superb diving catch took the game to extra innings.

Realmuto, who was also hit in the face mask by a foul tip while catching, led off the 10th with a home run to right field off reliever Luis Garcia, but there was more drama in the bottom of the inning.

Alex Bregman smacked a double into the scoreboard in left field, Yuli Gurriel walked, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.

With the Astros down to their last out, pinch-hitter Aledmys Diaz was hit by a pitch which would have loaded the bases had not the umpire ruled that he leaned into it - and Diaz then grounded out as the Phillies triumphed.

Played both. And definitely played cricket a lot more as well.

I have now come to realize that baseball is A LOT more interesting. Especially when the play off season starts.

And the biggest reason is, it's a low scoring format. Runs are very hard to come by. Notice, how the fans jump out of their seats in joy when a home run is hit or third strike is achieved on the third batsman. Just listen to the roar in the crowd. And it happens in almost all games.

These incidents, with a lot more frequency, used to happen in cricket as well ... but with T20 format is 60 meter boundaries, fans are now immune to sixes. They just yawn at 6 after 6. There is hardly any excitement left. If they want to bring more interest in T20, they MUST increase the boundary lines to at least 80 meters - and that will separate boys from men.

Right now, play off season is goin in baseball and just look at the craziness in fans . You hardly every see that in cricket.

But if they make the baseball boundary smaller (right now its about 122 meters) and provide bigger bats to the baseball batters and we see homerun after homerun ... baseball will become just as boring as many T20 games are.

The other main reason the games are nail biters is the rules of baseball have hardly changed since inception. There aren’t unfair advantages for batters, and pitchers aren’t donkey bowlers like you find in cricket. The balance is still there, there’s always a pitcher Vs batter duel, the purity of the game is still intact.

Two cities I dislike have reached the finals but atleast Phillies are cheats so definitely supporting them.

Yep, that's the biggest indicator that the rules of baseball have hardly changed over the decades.

In cricket, they tried to instill this fake excitement by creating more n more six hitting scenes under the refuge of T20 format in tiny boundaries. Fans may have enjoyed it for a year or two - but you can't scare them with the same alligator everyday.
Now hardly anyone in the crowd moves when a six is hit - may be a few claps here n there, folks don't jump out of their seats unless it's some sorta match winning type six on the last ball.

And there is A LOT more uncertainty behind every pitch in baseball ... you just don't know ... from any minor to any major thing can happen. In top games and in play offs, every single pitch is a nail biter.

And then some baseball fielders display some amazing skills at 3rd base (5) and Short Stop (6). Their throwing arms are incredible.
