Kerala High Court emergency leave ruling: The Kerala High Court has allowed emergency leave to a prisoner while clarifying that the brother’s son and sister’s son ought to be considered as cousins and rejected the argument of the prison authority that the relief was sought for attending the family event of the brother’s son and not the sister’s son, which was permissible according to the rules.

Justice Kauser Edappagath was hearing the plea of the nephew of the life-term convict lodged at the Central Prison and Correctional Home, Kannur. The nephew’s plea sought directions to the prison authorities to grant emergency leave to the uncle.

New Delhi:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Lt Col Deepak Kumar Sharma, posted in the Department of Defence Production under the Defence Ministry, for allegedly taking Rs 3 lakh in bribe from a Bengaluru-based company, officials said.

The CBI had registered the case on December 19 on the basis of a reliable source information against Sharma, Deputy Planning Officer, International Cooperation and Exports, Department of Defence Productions and his wife, Col. Kajal Bali, CO, 16 Infantry Division Ordnance Unit (DOU), Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan and others, including a Dubai based company on the allegations of criminal conspiracy and bribery.

Lt Col indulges in corrupt and illegal activities

It is alleged that Lt Col Sharma, "habitually indulges in corrupt and illegal activities" in criminal conspiracy with representatives of various private companies dealing in defence products manufacturing, export etc., by obtaining undue advantage or bribe from them in exchange of providing undue favours to them, the CBI Spokesperson said in a statement.

The CBI received inputs about a possible bribe payment from a Bengaluru-based company. Rajiv Yadav and Ravjit Singh were looking after its affairs, they said. "They (Singh and Yadav) have been in regular contact with Lt. Col. Deepak Kumar Sharma and are, in connivance with him, pursuing various undue favours by illegal means for their company from various government departments and ministries. One Vinod Kumar delivered a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh, on the behest of the said company, to Lt. Col. Deepak Kumar Sharma on 18.12.2025," CBI Spokesperson said in a statement.

Vinod Kumar was also arrested in the case, it said.

Rs 2.36 crore cash seized

During searches at the premises of the Sharma, the CBI seized Rs 2.23 crore cash and Rs 3 lakh bribe money from the Delhi residence, while Rs 10 lakh was seized from his wife's residence in Sri Ganganagar, the statement said.

The situation became more critical as cooking gas cylinders and other hazardous materials were present inside the warehouse, raising fears of possible explosions.

Firefighters and authorities acted swiftly to remove the cylinders to safer locations to prevent the fire from escalating further.

Cause of fire yet to be determined

Fire and Rescue Service teams from Thalassery, Mahe, and Panoor were rushed to the spot and are engaged in intensive firefighting operations to douse the flames.

‘They promised 30% returns… Rs 19 crore gone’: How a WhatsApp IPO scam trapped a 78-year-old in Delhi

A septuagenarian businessman lost a whopping Rs 18.80 crore in the second biggest case of cyber fraud — and the biggest online ‘investment’ scam — ever reported in Delhi. This is his story.

Once a victim has made their “investment”, the money is parked temporarily in one or more mule accounts, before it is converted to cryptocurrency and moved to foreign banks. (Illustration by Suvajit Dey)
In his gut, the 78-year-old Delhi-based textile businessman already knew what his brain wasn’t yet ready to accept that October morning in 2024. His money, all Rs 18.80 crore of it, was gone.

He had been blocked from the “investment app” he had downloaded nearly three months earlier, and his WhatsApp calls to the “company” for help went unanswered.

'Give us Quota or Shoot Us Dead': Maratha Protest in Mumbai Today; 1,500 Cops Deployed - What We Know

Manoj Jarange, the leader of the Maratha quota agitation, is organizing a protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai today, seeking a 10% quota for Marathas under the OBC category.

Maratha quota agitation leader Manoj Jarange is set to hold a protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai today, pressing the government to grant a 10% quota for Marathas under the OBC category. A large number of protesters have reached the iconic venue near Central Railway's sprawling Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. While the police have granted them permission to hold the protest till 6 pm, protesters have vowed they "would not leave" the venue till the quota stir ended in victory.
The 43-year-old, accompanied by thousands of supporters, arrived in the city on Friday morning to a grand welcome.

"If you cannot give us a reservation, then shoot us dead," said Nanded farmer Maruti Patil, who arrived at Azad Maidan to take part in the quota stir, told news agency PTI on Friday.

Patil and several others like him braved the rains to extend support to Jarange, many of them taking shelter under trees, on footpaths and inside the subway near CSMT.

"If you can't give us reservation, then we don't want to live. The government has no idea how difficult our lives are," 40-year-old Patil told PTI at the Azad Maidan on Thursday night.
'CM Fadnavis Should Not Test Us'
The government should provide reservation to Marathas from the OBC quota in a single day, Nimbalkar said, adding that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has "no idea" how big the stir would become.

(VIDEO | Maharashtra: Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil's procession enters Mumbai for one-day protest at Azad Maidan. Visuals from Chembur.Accompanied by hundreds of vehicles, Jarange, who began his march from his village in Jalna district on Wednesday, was welcomed at Vashi by supporters as he entered Mumbai.)

"He should not test us. If he is not able to give us a reservation, then he should vacate the CM's post," Nimbalkar added.
Beed resident Balasaheb Deshmukh said the Maratha community was struggling and was unable to give their children proper education.
Jarange wants all Marathas to be recognised as Kunbis – an agrarian caste included in the OBC category – which will make them eligible for reservation in government jobs and education.
Accompanied by hundreds of vehicles, 43-year-old Jarange led his march from his village Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district on Wednesday and reached Mumbai on Friday morning. The police granted permission after he agreed to their 40 conditions - including to avoid any law-and-order situations, not to cause disruptions to the movement of vehicles and desist from avoiding “objectionable” slogans.
Mumbai police have allowed Jarange permission to stage peaceful protests at Azad Maidan today between 9 am to 6 pm, after which all protesters will have to leave the site.

Police also stipulated that only five vehicles of protesters can head to Azad Maidan and the number of protesters there should not cross 5,000.
Over 1,500 Mumbai police personnel have been deployed at Azad Maidan to maintain law and order ahead of Jarange's agitation, officials said.
Security has also been beefed up at the nearby Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus where quota agitation supporters have arrived from Maharashtra's hinterlands, the railway police said.

Gujarat cop slaps motorist, suspended after video goes viral

The woman has alleged that she was slapped repeatedly and abused verbally, claiming injuries to her eye, ear and cheek.

AHMEDABAD: A traffic police constable was caught on camera slapping a woman motorist at a busy junction in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, which has triggered public outrage and counter-cases, leading to the suspension of the constable. Criminal charges have been filed against both the cop and the woman motorist, turning a routine signal stop into a full-blown law-and-order controversy.

The incident unfolded in the evening on Friday at a four-way junction in the Paldi area, of Ahmedabad under the N Division traffic police limits, where evening congestion meets frayed tempers.

According to police, the woman, identified as Bansari, was stopped for allegedly jumping a traffic signal.

On duty was head constable Jayanti Zala, who asked her to produce her driving licence. Officials said the woman requested permission to move her vehicle aside to ease traffic.

“The situation escalated when the woman asked the constable to show his identity card,” a police officer explained. “The ID was shown, but while returning it, it allegedly slipped from her hand and fell onto the road.”

The viral video shows constable Zala suddenly slapping the woman while she is still seated on her vehicle. In the same footage, the woman steps down in shock as the constable continues shouting, visibly enraged.

In later visuals, he bends to pick something up and even attempts to grab a stick from another policeman, before colleagues restrain him.

The woman has alleged that she was slapped repeatedly and abused verbally, claiming injuries to her eye, ear and cheek. Panicked and shaken, she dialled the emergency helpline 112 and later went to Paldi police station to file a complaint late at night.

She further alleged that police initially refused to register her complaint and warned her about counter-cases. Paldi police inspector M N Parevada, however, said, “This was a traffic-related matter. Cross-complaints were suggested as there was aggression from both sides, creating grounds for complaints against each other.”

DCP Traffic (West), Bhavna Patel, confirmed immediate action.

“I accept that there has been fault on the part of the police constable,” Patel said. “Police personnel are expected to show restraint and treat citizens with respect.”

Head constable Jayanti Zala was suspended with immediate effect. Simultaneously, police registered a case against the woman under sections 281, 221, 296(b) and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and sections 177 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, citing obstruction, abusive language and traffic violations.

Meanwhile, in a fresh twist to the case, a new video has surfaced showing the woman allegedly abusing a police constable, while another clip from two months ago has also emerged, purportedly capturing her involved in a heated confrontation with a policeman.

Police are now examining past incidents involving the woman, as fresh videos both recent and older surface online.

Sleeping Pills, Roofied Toothpaste, Intent to Kill: Minor Plots Father’s Murder, Watches as Boyfriend Kills Him

In Vadodara, Gujarat, a 17-year-old girl allegedly plotted with her boyfriend to murder her father after he disapproved of their relationship. The girl attempted to drug her parents multiple times before successfully executing the plan with her boyfriend and an accomplice.

Vadodara: A shocking crime has come to light in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, where a 17-year-old girl allegedly conspired with her boyfriend to murder her own father after he opposed their relationship. Police say the teenager first tried to drug both her parents before finally succeeding in executing the murder plan with the help of her boyfriend and his associate.
According to Vadodara Rural Police, the incident took place in Padra, on the outskirts of Vadodara. Investigations revealed that the girl’s father, Shana Chavda, was strongly against her relationship, which allegedly prompted her to hatch the conspiracy. Police said the boyfriend and his accomplice stabbed the victim multiple times, killing him in front of the girl.

Police officials said the teenager had made repeated attempts to sedate her parents before the murder. On December 16, she allegedly tried to mix sleeping pills into their food and water but failed. A second attempt on December 18 initially did not succeed either, as her mother found the taste suspicious and refused to consume it.

However, on the night of December 18, the girl again mixed sleeping pills into her parents’ food. When she checked whether they had lost consciousness, her mother woke up, forcing the accused to abandon the plan temporarily. Later that night, the conspirators carried out the murder.

Accused Boyfriend Has Prior POCSO Case

Police identified the main accused as Ranjit Vaghela (25), the girl’s boyfriend. He had earlier been arrested under the POCSO Act after a complaint was filed by the victim himself and was recently released on bail.
The victim’s brother, Moti (50), told police that the girl had eloped with Vaghela in July, following which Shana Chavda lodged the POCSO complaint. Even after being released on bail, Vaghela allegedly resumed contact with the girl. About 15 days before the murder, Vaghela reportedly had a heated argument with Shana and threatened that he would marry the girl at any cost and eliminate anyone who came in the way.

Police Say Girl Was an Active Conspirator

Police said the teenager was not just aware of the plan but actively involved in it, as she resented her father’s strict opposition to the relationship. It also emerged during the investigation that the victim’s elder daughter had earlier married against his wishes, which may have further strained family relations.
Vadodara Rural Superintendent of Police Sushil Agrawal said the girl had tried multiple times to drug her parents before the murder.
parents, but her mother sensed something unusual and did not consume it. On Tuesday night, she again mixed sleeping pills in their food. When she checked if they were unconscious, her mother woke up, forcing them to drop the plan. Eventually, on the night of December 18, the murder plan succeeded,” Agrawal said.
Police have taken the accused into custody and recovered evidence linked to the crime. Further investigation is underway.

Ground Report: Uneasy Calm In Assam's West Karbi Anglong After 2 Days Of Violence

Army columns are conducting flag marches, while an indefinite curfew remains in place. Mobile internet data services have also been suspended.

West Karbi Angolong:
Peace has returned to Assam's West Karbi Anglong after two days of violent protests in Kheroni and adjoining areas, which resulted in at least two deaths and injuries to around 60 police personnel during pitched battles with protesters. An uneasy calm prevails in the region, with the Army called in to assist security forces. Army columns are conducting flag marches, while an indefinite curfew remains in place. Mobile internet data services have also been suspended.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the situation in Karbi Anglong has improved following the recent violence, with normalcy gradually returning to the affected areas.

Speaking to the media in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said both groups involved in the conflict are now engaged in dialogue and senior government officials are present on the ground to monitor the situation.

"Today the situation is absolutely normal. People are coming out, shops are opening, and movement on the streets has resumed. I believe the situation will improve further in the coming days," Mr Sarma said.

The Chief Minister confirmed that two people lost their lives during the violence on Tuesday. One person died due to police firing, while another was killed after miscreants allegedly set fire to houses and shops.

"One physically challenged person could not come out of his house and was tragically burned alive. It was a very pathetic situation that we witnessed yesterday," he added.

Speaking to NDTV, Assam DGP Harmeet Singh said, "The arsonists used gas cylinders to set shops on fire. We appeal to everyone to maintain peace. The situation is totally under control. Army columns are out to help us. As per legal procedure, the protesters were informed that it was an unlawful assembly. Over 60 policemen have sustained injuries. Legal action will be taken. The arsonists have been identified and many are absconding."

Karbi activists have questioned the role of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

"The Sixth Schedule areas are meant to protect indigenous tribes, but in these Sixth Schedule areas we are facing a threat to our demography. We are not against any other communities, but people from other communities have come and settled here. The Karbi Council has failed us, and the state government, which is our guardian, has also not taken the issue seriously," one activist said.

Another activist, Anthong Engti, said the Karbi tribe is worried about the marginalisation of tribal people in Sixth Schedule areas.

"These protests were happening peacefully for 15 days. The hypocrisy of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council is responsible for the violent outburst. Earlier, we were given assurances about the eviction of non-Karbi communities from encroached land, but they did not keep their word. There is a massive trust deficit between the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and the protesters," he said.

What Triggered the Ludhiana Jail Violence? Superintendent Injured in Inmate Clash

A violent clash erupted among inmates at the Central Jail in Ludhiana, Punjab, resulting in serious injuries to Jail Superintendent Kulwant Sidhu.

A clash between inmates at the Central Jail on Tajpur Road in Punjab’s Ludhiana city turned violent on Tuesday evening, leaving the jail superintendent seriously injured. Additional police forces were deployed to restore order, reports PTI, citing sources.
The incident began with a scuffle between prisoners over an unspecified issue, which quickly escalated into violence. During routine checking, jail officials who entered the area were allegedly attacked by inmates. Police personnel deployed inside the jail were also assaulted, sources said.

Jail Superintendent Kulwant Sidhu rushed to the spot after receiving information about the disturbance in an attempt to bring the situation under control.

He was allegedly struck on the head with a brick by an inmate, sustaining serious injuries. Sidhu was immediately taken to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

The incident was reported to Punjab Jail Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, who has sought a detailed report from jail authorities, according to sources.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma reached the jail premises along with a heavy police contingent to maintain law and order. Additional police forces were deployed inside and around the jail complex as officials worked to stabilise the situation.

Sources said around 200 inmates attacked police personnel near one of the barracks during the unrest. People present outside the jail complex claimed that sirens could be heard from inside the premises for nearly 20 minutes as authorities attempted to regain control.
Several senior officers from the police and jail administration also reached the spot to oversee the response. Efforts were continuing late into the evening to fully normalise the situation, sources said.
No official statement had been issued by the jail administration or the police till late evening. The exact cause of the clash and the extent of injuries to inmates or security personnel were not immediately known.

3 Acquitted In 2009 Panipat Acid Attack Case, Court Cites Lack Of Evidence

Additional Sessions Judge Jagmohan Singh acquitted Yashvinder, Mandeep Mann, and Bala, citing a lack of evidence.

3 Acquitted In 2009 Panipat Acid Attack Case, Court Cites Lack Of Evidence

Additional Sessions Judge Jagmohan Singh acquitted Yashvinder, Mandeep Mann, and Bala, citing a lack of evidence.

In 2013, the case was transferred to Delhi's Rohini court.
New Delhi:
A Delhi court on Wednesday acquitted three people 16 years after they were charged with criminal conspiracy in a 2009 acid attack.

Additional Sessions Judge Jagmohan Singh acquitted Yashvinder, Mandeep Mann, and Bala, citing a lack of evidence.

The three were accused of conspiring with a juvenile to carry out an acid attack on Panipat MBA student Shaheen Malik.

The juvenile, who attacked the victim with acid, was convicted on December 17, 2015, under IPC Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).

The subsequent penal provision dealing with the offence, Section 326 A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid), was introduced by the 2013 Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

The court announced the verdict on Wednesday in camera.

"The court acquitted all the accused, citing insufficient evidence, a faulty and incomplete investigation, and the absence of the victim's evidence on record, though an inquiry has been ordered against the investigating officer," the victim's advocate, Madiah Shahjar, told reporters.

"While the court expressed sympathy, it stated that justice, not sympathy, was sought after a 16-year legal battle. The decision will be challenged in the Delhi High Court and, if required, in the Supreme Court," the lawyer said.

Court sources said that a detailed order in the matter would be issued on December 26.

According to Priyadarshani, the counsel of the accused, Bala, was charged under IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 326 and 308, while Yashvinder was charged under sections 364 A (kidnapping for ransom), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 511 (punishment for attempting an offence).

Mandeep was tried for the offences under IPC sections 120B,326 and 308, the advocate said.

She said that the juvenile had not been convicted for the offence of criminal conspiracy - a fact that was brought to the notice of the present court.

According to the prosecution, Malik was attacked with acid in Haryana's Panipat in 2009 after he moved there for a job as a student counsellor at a college owned by Yashvinder.

At the same time, Malik enrolled in an MBA programme at Punjab Technical University.

The prosecution claimed that the victim faced sexual harassment at her workplace from Yashvinder.

Yashvinder's wife, Bala, conspired with two university students, Mandeep Mann and the juvenile, to attack Malik.

In 2013, the case was transferred to Delhi's Rohini court.

On December 4, the Supreme Court, while hearing a PIL filed by the victim, termed tardy trials in acid attack cases as a "mockery of the system" and directed all high courts to submit details of such pending cases across the country within four weeks.

The top court termed the prolonged delay in Malik's case a "national shame" and directed the trial to be held on a day-to-day basis.

Video: Asked To Return Money, Man Blows Off Friend's Leg With A Rifle

Rajinder Singh, a resident of Amritsar, had gone to the house of Paramjit Singh Sandhu to demand the return of Rs 5 lakh that he had given as a loan.

Chandigarh:
A dispute over money ended in gunfire in Punjab's Batala area after a man allegedly shot his friend twice during an argument over a long-pending loan. The incident took place in Gokuwal village and was captured on a mobile phone camera.

Rajinder Singh, a resident of Amritsar, had gone to the house of Paramjit Singh Sandhu to demand the return of Rs 5 lakh that he had given as a loan.

The money was given by Rajinder in 2003 to help Paramjit with personal and household needs. Rajinder had repeatedly asked for repayment, but Paramjit allegedly kept delaying and eventually stopped responding.

After repeated calls and reminders failed, Rajinder went to Paramjit's house along with his wife and driver. An argument broke out between members of both families, which soon escalated into a heated exchange.

During the confrontation, Paramjit fired at Rajinder using a 315-bore rifle.

The incident was caught on camera by a member of Rajinder Singh's family, who was recording the conversation at the time. The video shows a woman arguing with Rajinder before Paramjit appears from behind her and fires at him.

After being shot, Rajinder Singh was immediately taken to a hospital by his driver. He suffered an injury to his right leg

The police have registered a case in connection with the shooting.

Guwahati:
At least two people were killed and 45 others, including 38 police personnel, injured as fresh violence erupted in Assam’s trouble-torn Karbi Anglong district, after two groups of protesters clashed, prompting security forces to lathicharge and fire tear gas shells to disperse them, officials said. In the wake of these developments, the Assam government on Tuesday temporarily suspended internet services in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.

Assam CM closely monitoring the situation

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said he is closely monitoring the violent situation in the West Karbi Anglong district. “I am closely monitoring the situation in West Karbi Anglong. It is deeply painful that two persons lost their lives during today’s unrest. Additional security forces will be deployed in Kherani tomorrow to maintain peace. We are in constant touch with all concerned to restore normalcy and resolve issues through dialogue. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The Government will stand with all affected families and provide all necessary support,” he said.

n an official order, the Home and Political Department said in the interest of maintaining greater public peace and tranquillity, and to prevent any deterioration of the present situation, internet services have been temporarily suspended.

The body of a 25-year-old specially abled youth, Suresh Dey, was recovered from a building that was set ablaze by the agitators while another person, identified as Athik Timung, was killed during the clash, a police officer said. The protesters have been demanding eviction of encroachers from tribal belts.

Suspension of Internet will remain in force until further orders

The suspension will remain in force until further orders. “It is, however, clarified that voice calls and broadband connectivity based on fixed telephone lines shall remain functional during this period,” the order stated.

48 policemen have been injured until now

Assam DGP Harmeet Singh says, "The government is talking to them, and a date has been set. They have burnt shops, and 48 policemen have been injured until now..."

The district magistrates of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts received reports regarding a serious law and order situation, and there is serious apprehension that there might be likelihood of breach of public peace and tranquility, it said.

Here’s what CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on the matter

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said the situation in Karbi Anglong was “very sensitive". "Senior minister Ranoj Pegu is present in the district. I believe the matter will be resolved soon," Sarma said on the sidelines of a programme.

Social media and internet may be used to further spread inflammatory messages and rumours, which may lead to further aggravation of the situation, the department’s Commissioner and Secretary Biswajit Pegu said in the order. Any violation of the promulgation will be punishable as per laws, it added.

A 23-year-old techie, Sukruth Gowda, was arrested for deliberately ramming his car into a family’s scooter in a Bengaluru road rage incident. CCTV confirmed the intentional attack, and he later confessed.

A 23-year-old techie, Sukruth Gowda, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a couple and their son after they blocked a free-left turn with their two-wheeler near MS Ramaiah Hospital Junction on New BEL Road in Bengaluru. What initially appeared to be a hit-and-run was later confirmed by police to be a deliberate attempt to kill the family, as Sukruth intentionally rammed his car into their scooter. The accused admitted to the act, which occurred around 7:20 pm on October 26, and has since been remanded to judicial custody.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV. The footage shows the software engineer overtaking the scooter from the left and brushing against it, causing the family to fall and sustain injuries. Ankita Patel and her son were treated and discharged, while her husband, Vineet, was shifted to St. John’s Hospital for further medical care.

The Bengaluru Police in an official incident said, "A car was deliberately hit by a two-wheeler near the Ganesha Temple on 26 October 2025. Complainant C.E. Protest Erupts in Odisha's Keonjhar After 14-Year-Old Student Found Dead, Family Alleges Foul Play

Protests erupted in Odisha's Keonjhar district after the death of a 14-year-old student, whose family demonstrated with his body alleging foul play, following his hospitalization and subsequent demise.

Odisha: The alleged mysterious death of a 14-year-old student at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) sparked protests in Odisha's Keonjhar district, where his family staged a demonstration outside the collectorate with his body, alleging foul play and demanding a thorough investigation.
The Class 9 student had died on Friday after being admitted to KIMS Medical College and Hospital in Bhubaneswar. According to a police complaint filed by the boy's father, Raghunath Munda, the KISS authorities contacted him on Friday morning to inform him that his son had fallen ill and was hospitalised, with some reports suggesting the boy had slipped in a bathroom and fractured his leg.
"When I reached the hospital in Bhubaneswar in the evening, the doctor declared my son dead and sent the body back to the village in an ambulance," said the student's father, Raghunath Munda.

The grieving father alleged he noticed marks on his son's neck and that he had received no medical report or information regarding the cause of death.

"I noticed some marks on my son's neck. I have not yet received the medical report, nor have I been given any information about it." he added
Keonjhar Deputy Tehsildar Durgesh Kalyan Pradhan said the administration took action after the protests.

"We learnt that the incident occurred at an institute in Bhubaneswar. The family brought the body here. We have sent the body for post-mortem examination. Further action will be taken according to the law," he said.
KISS is an affiliate of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), which has reported at least three alleged suicides, two of which involved Nepali female students.

Gurugram Woman Refuses to Pay Cab Fare, Threatens Driver With Fake Molestation Case - Then This Happened

A 48-year-old woman, Jyoti Dalal, was arrested in Gurugram for allegedly refusing to pay her cab fare and threatening the driver with false molestation claims. The incident occurred after she booked a ride from Sector 31 to Cyber City, during which she made multiple stops and asked the driver for money.

Gurugram: A 48-year-old woman has been arrested by Gurugram Police for allegedly refusing to pay a cab fare and threatening the driver with a false molestation case to avoid payment, officials said on Saturday. The accused, identified as Jyoti Dalal, a resident of Pitampura in Delhi, was arrested on Thursday and later sent to jail, police added. The case surfaced after a cab driver filed a complaint alleging that the woman not only avoided clearing the bill but also attempted to intimidate him by threatening to lodge fake criminal allegations.

What Happened: Cab Ride From Sector 31 to Cyber City

According to the police complaint filed by the cab driver, Ziauddin, a resident of Dhana village in Nuh district, the woman booked a cab ride on Tuesday morning. The driver stated that she asked him to take her first to Sector 31, then to a bus stand, and later to Cyber City.
In his complaint, the driver alleged that during the trip:

  • the passenger repeatedly stopped at different places for food and drinks
  • he ended up making payments at multiple locations
  • she also asked for money, and he initially handed her Rs 700
The driver further claimed that when he asked her to end the ride and clear the payment in the afternoon, she became aggressive and allegedly threatened to file false cases of theft or molestation against him

Police said the driver later approached authorities and reported the matter after the woman allegedly continued creating trouble.

Investigators said that the accused woman also went to the police station and allegedly created a ruckus there. After she left, the cab driver narrated the full incident to police personnel, following which a case was taken up for investigation.
During interrogation, the woman allegedly admitted that she had previously booked cabs, refused to pay, and threatened drivers with false molestation allegations, according to a Gurugram Police spokesperson

Police also claimed that further checks revealed she had allegedly used similar tactics in the past, including purchasing goods from cosmetic shops and refusing to pay.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against Jyoti Dalal and she was arrested on Thursday, police said. She was later produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody.
The police have said the case remains under investigation, and further verification is being carried out to identify whether there are more similar complaints linked to the accused.

‘All India Pregnant Job’: The Dark Web of Bihar’s 'Make a Woman Pregnant, Earn Rs 10 Lakh' Scam

A cybercrime gang in Bihar’s Nawada was busted for running a shocking ‘All India Pregnant Job’ scam that lured men with promises of free sex and up to Rs 10 lakh, only to extort money through fake fees and registrations.

It began as a lurid promise splashed across social media feeds, a proposition so brazen that it felt unreal. “Make a woman pregnant and get rewarded up to Rs 10 lakh.”
The ads as per reports, appeared on Facebook and WhatsApp, masquerading as job offers, loan schemes, and discreet “services”. As per a NDTV report, they carried seductive names: “All India Pregnant Job,” “Playboy Service,” “SBI cheap loans,” “Dhani Finance.” For men scrolling late at night, the pitch was irresistible, free sex, guaranteed money, and anonymity.

What followed, however, was a calculated cyber trap that preyed on greed, desperation, and silence.

The Scam That Sold Sex and Millions

The so-called “All India Pregnant Job” as per the report by NDTV, promised men up to Rs 10 lakh for impregnating childless women. Even failure, the scammers assured, would fetch half the reward. Victims were sent photographs of female models to make the offer appear legitimate.

The lure was deliberate and effective. Men were told this was an “easy way” to make money. No paperwork, no questions asked. All they had to do was pay “initial charges”, a registration fees, hotel expenses, travel costs, before the process could begin.
but the “initial charges” never stopped. Once the first amount was transferred, new demands followed. Each promise of a payout came with another fee. The victims kept paying, convinced that the jackpot was just one step away. Just that, it never was.

Silence, Shame, and Savings Lost

Many victims drained their savings before realising they were being scammed. But instead of approaching the police, most stayed silent, afraid of ridicule, exposure, and social stigma.
That silence allowed the fraud to grow. Behind the scenes, a gang was running the operation from Bihar’s Nawada district, recycling the same tactics used in earlier cyber scams involving fake loans and blackmail. The “pregnancy job” was just the latest bait - crude, sensational, and effective.

Breakthrough in Nawada

The scam finally unravelled after investigators from the Nawada Cyber Police pieced together multiple complaints and digital trails. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Nawada. A minor was also taken into custody.
Four mobile phones allegedly used to run the fraud were recovered.

Confirming the arrests, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman as per a report by NDTV, said cases had been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.
Police said the modus operandi matched earlier cases in the district, where victims were first lured, then blackmailed and extorted.

Officials warned that despite earlier arrests, the scam keeps resurfacing in new forms. “The 'pregnancy job' remained a pitch that still lured men of all ages looking for quick money and sex,” police said.
Issuing a public appeal, Nishu Mallik, in-charge of the Nawada Cyber Police Station and Deputy Superintendent of Police of Nawada, urged people to remain vigilant and report suspicious offers immediately.
The message from police was blunt: if an online offer promises sex, secrecy, and sudden wealth - it is almost certainly a trap. And by the time victims realise it, the damage is already done.

Bengaluru Woman Escapes Death: Jilted Lover Misfires Twice, Had Planned to Kill Self But...

In Bengaluru, a jilted lover fired twice at his girlfriend in Nelamangala, but both shots misfired. Police arrested him, seized an illegal pistol, and are probing weapon sources.

Bengaluru: A major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Saturday morning (January 10) when a jilted lover allegedly fired twice at his girlfriend in Mallapura near Nelamangala, on the outskirts of the city. Both shots misfired, leaving the woman unharmed, police said.

The accused, Shubham Kumar (25), a native of Bihar who works as a bike taxi rider and lives in Nelamangala, had been in a relationship with the victim, Aparna, a nursing student from Sikkim residing in Ejipura. The couple met on Instagram and had been dating for over a year, according to police, as reported by The Times of India.

Investigators said Shubham grew suspicious that Aparna was in contact with another man, leading to frequent arguments. On Saturday around 9 am, he allegedly asked her to meet him in Nelamangala under the pretext of talking things out. When Aparna arrived in a taxi, Shubham reportedly attempted to shoot her using an illegally procured pistol loaded with four rounds. The weapon misfired twice.

Aparna immediately dialled 112, and with the help of local residents, police apprehended Shubham at the spot and seized the illegal firearm. The incident caused panic in the area and raised fresh concerns about the availability of illegal weapons on the city’s outskirts.

Planned to Kill Himself Too

Police said the accused had allegedly planned to kill the woman and then end his own life, but the plan failed due to the misfire. A case has been registered at Nelamangala Rural police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Police are also investigating the source of the illegal firearm and whether an organised network is supplying weapons in the region.

Bengaluru Shocker: It All Started as a Couple’s Argument Over Rs 200 - Here is What Happened Next

A minor domestic argument over Rs 200 in a Bengaluru village spiralled into a devastating tragedy, leaving a family shattered and an entire community in shock.

A quiet morning in Karnataka’s Byadarahalli village, just 30 Km from Bengaluru, ended in unspeakable tragedy, leaving a family shattered and an entire village grappling with grief. What began as a minor domestic disagreement over Rs 200 spiralled into a heartbreaking loss as per reports, when a 30-year-old woman took her own life inside her home.
Suma, a mother of two, had been married to Chandrashekhar for about eight years. The couple lived with their children and an elderly family member, surviving on daily wage labour. Neighbours as per a report by Asianet News, recall them as a struggling but otherwise ordinary family, managing their expenses carefully and getting by one day at a time. Nothing about their household hinted at the devastating turn their lives would take.

Rs 200 That Costed One Life

On Friday morning, tensions reportedly flared over money that Suma had set aside for a Dharmasthala self-help group loan instalment. She had kept Rs 1,300 at home for the payment. According to preliminary information, Chandrashekhar took Rs 200 from that amount for personal expenses and informed his wife about it. When Suma realised the money was missing, a heated argument broke out between the couple.

Those familiar with the family say the quarrel may have seemed small in scale, but the financial strain of daily wage work often magnifies such moments. After the argument, Chandrashekhar and his mother left for work, believing the matter would settle. Suma was left alone at home with her distress.

By the time Chandrashekhar returned home for lunch in the afternoon, tragedy had already struck. He found Suma hanging inside the house. The sight sent shockwaves through the household and the village. A mother was suddenly gone, leaving behind two young children and unanswered questions.
Villagers gathered outside the house as word spread, many struggling to comprehend how a disagreement over a small sum of money could end in such irreversible loss.
The Nelamangala Rural Police registered a case and visited the spot for inspection. Suma’s body was shifted to the Nelamangala mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Police officials have said they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident.

After Contract Killing Plan Backfired, Bengaluru Man Shoots Wife Dead in Middle of Road

In a shocking development in a murder case, Bengaluru police have arrested a petty criminal named Maulesh, who is suspected of being involved in planning the murder of Balamurugan's wife, Bhuvaneshwari. The incident occurred on December 23 when Balamurugan allegedly shot her.

Bengaluru: A major twist has emerged in the case where a man allegedly shot dead his wife with a pistol in the middle of the road under the Magadi Road police limits. Police have now taken another petty rowdy into custody on a body warrant, suspecting that the murder was initially planned with outside help before the husband decided to execute it himself.
The incident took place on the evening of December 23, when the accused husband Balamurugan allegedly shot and killed his wife Bhuvaneshwari.

Police said they have detained Salem-based Maulesh, described as a petty rowdy, and he is being interrogated by the Magadi Road police, along with Balamurugan.

According to investigators, Maulesh’s name surfaced during interrogation, leading to his custody through a body warrant.

During questioning, police reportedly learnt that Balamurugan had travelled to Salem in Tamil Nadu before the murder.
At a relative’s hotel in Salem, he met Maulesh and allegedly offered him large sums of money to get his wife murdered.
Police believe a plan was discussed to kill Bhuvaneshwari at a location with no CCTV coverage, so the crime could be carried out without leaving evidence.

Police further claim that Balamurugan allegedly handed over a pistol to Maulesh during the meeting.
Investigators said the accused allegedly planned that the murder would be carried out within two to three months, while Maulesh reportedly told him he needed time to inspect the area.
Following this, Maulesh allegedly came to Bengaluru and conducted reconnaissance, surveying:

  • the area where Bhuvaneshwari worked, and
  • the roads she used regularly

Money dispute led husband to kill wife himself: Police

Police said the alleged plan later took an unexpected turn. When Maulesh demanded more money, Balamurugan reportedly became angry and decided to kill his wife himself using the same pistol.
As per police, Balamurugan then shot and killed Bhuvaneshwari as planned and later surrendered before the police.
Apart from the two accused, police said they are also summoning and questioning other people linked to Balamurugan as part of the continuing investigation.

Bengaluru Bandh? Karnataka Bakeries, Small Traders’ Federation Threatens Statewide Shutdown Over ‘Harassment’

The Karnataka State Bakery, Condiments and Small Entrepreneurs' Federation plans a statewide bandh, citing harassment of small traders by police and impostors posing as government officials. These fake officials allegedly threaten shop owners for money while actual police seize goods, enforcing fines between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Bakery, Condiments and Small Entrepreneurs' Federation has announced plans to call for a statewide bandh, alleging widespread harassment of small traders by the police and by impostors posing as government officials.
The federation claimed that individuals pretending to be officers from various departments have been visiting commercial establishments across Karnataka, threatening shop owners and demanding money, as per a TOI report.

‘Fake officials’ allegedly targeting traders

According to the federation, impostors have been posing as officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority, assessment offices, crime branch, the goods and services tax (GST) department, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The federation alleged these people have been entering shops and businesses across the state, intimidating traders and allegedly demanding money.

Instead of acting against these fake officials, the federation alleged that police have been seizing cigarettes from bakeries, condiment shops, bead shops and other small businesses.
Traders also claimed they were being asked to visit police stations, pay fines and collect the seized goods. They said fines were being imposed ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

Federation seeks return of seized cigarettes, clear tobacco policy

The federation has demanded that police return the seized cigarettes and called for a clear government policy on tobacco sales.
It said if enforcement is necessary, action should be directed at cigarette manufacturers instead of small shopkeepers.
It also urged the Karnataka government to consider shutting down cigarette manufacturing companies, pointing out that some states have imposed a complete ban on tobacco and cigarette sales.

‘If cigarettes are not manufactured, no shop will sell them’

The federation stated, "If cigarettes are not manufactured, no shop will sell them, and traders will not be harassed,". Federation president BP Pratap Shetty condemned what he described as harassment of bakery owners and small traders, claiming the current situation is making it difficult for small businesses to operate, as per the report.
Shetty said selective enforcement was unfair, especially when cigarettes and similar products are not completely banned.
He said,
"Cigarettes and pan masala are not completely banned. If authorities have an issue, they should impose an outright ban rather than first allowing sales and then confiscating stock, which causes losses for traders. Many vendors have no objection to a total ban, but this selective enforcement is unfair,"

70,000–80,000 bakeries in Bengaluru alone

The federation, which represents bakeries, condiment shops, cigarette vendors and pushcart traders, estimated that there are 70,000–80,000 bakeries in Bengaluru alone, and over 1,000 more across the state.

Bengaluru: Panic gripped Mallapura village in Nelamangala taluk on Saturday after a youth was spotted roaming with a gun in broad daylight, allegedly after being rejected in a love affair, as per a DH report. Chennai police accused of stalling FIR, destroying evidence in voyeurism case

The Ayanavaram police have been accused of forcing the victim to compromise and to destroy the phone that was used to allegedly record her.

The Greater Chennai Police have been accused of serious misconduct, including destruction of evidence, after a woman attempting to file a sexual harassment complaint was allegedly made to wait for three days before an FIR was registered, following the intervention of a senior officer.

On Saturday, February 20, the victim, a dentist by profession, allegedly caught her 57-year-old neighbour filming her while she was in the washroom. She raised an alarm, confronted him, and in the ensuing altercation, seized his mobile phone.

When she approached the Ayanavaram police station to file a complaint, Inspector Varghish Ignatius Raja of the Ayanavaram K2 police station allegedly refused to register it. Instead, he is accused of pressuring the victim to enter into a compromise and coercing her into destroying the phone containing the recording.

“The victim reached the police station around 2.30 pm but was made to wait until 6 pm on the pretext that the inspector was not present,” said Advocate V Shanmugasundar, legal counsel for the complainant. “When the inspector did speak to her, it was in private, in violation of Supreme Court guidelines mandating the presence of a woman officer. During this time, the accused and his family were also present at the station. The inspector allegedly warned that the accused’s family would commit suicide and urged the victim to compromise instead of filing a complaint.”

She was also reportedly asked to produce witnesses to substantiate her complaint.

According to the advocate, the inspector then directed her to submerge the phone in a bucket of water inside the police station, claiming that the video could otherwise be leaked.

Subsequently, the victim approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kilpauk), Jareena Begum, who intervened and ensured that an FIR was registered on Monday, December 22. The police visited the scene on Tuesday at around 11 am.

Karnataka: Couple booked for assault on disabled teen at residential institution

The couple who run the residential school, along with two caretakers employed at the institution, have been arrested as part of the investigation.

Four people have been taken into custody in Karnataka’s Bagalkote district after a video showing the brutal assault of a 16-year-old disabled boy at a residential school surfaced on social media.

The incident took place around three months ago at Divyajyoti School for Differently Abled Children, a residential institution for children with disabilities in the Navanagar area of Bagalkote, but remained undisclosed until recently. The matter came to light after a former employee of the school shared a video of the assault with the boy’s parents, following which they approached the police.

The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the teenager being repeatedly beaten with a belt and a plastic pipe while he lies on the floor crying for help. The boy’s legs appear to be pinned down as the assault continues. The video further shows chilli powder being thrown into his eyes, and an onlooker can be heard laughing.

Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal said the residential school is run by a husband-and-wife duo. Based on the parents’ complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. The couple, along with two caretakers employed at the institution, have been arrested as part of the investigation.

Police have identified the primary accused as Akshay Indulkar, who is alleged to have led the assault. His wife is accused of actively participating in the abuse. The institution, run by an NGO, functions as a residential school for children with disabilities.

Andhra Pradesh to study Haryana policy to curb ‘belt shops’

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed the Excise Department to study the sub-lease system of Haryana to curb the menace of ‘belt shops’ or unauthorised liquor outlets in the state.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed the Excise Department to study the sub-lease system of Haryana to curb the menace of ‘belt shops’ or unauthorised liquor outlets in the state.

At a review meeting of the department, the Chief Minister directed officials to take strict action against ‘belt shops’ and study the policy of Haryana to tackle the problem.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the problem of ‘belt shops’ exists because of the lack of shops in rural and remote areas.

As part of environmental protection efforts, the department is considering a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) where customers would receive cash back for returning empty liquor bottles.

Chief Minister Naidu instructed officials to ensure that the state's liquor policy is not viewed as a business, but rather aimed at achieving healthy growth. The Chief Minister clarified that policies should not solely focus on revenue, and that liquor should be treated like any other product.

He suggested further deliberation on the current system of shop allocation through lottery, application fees, liquor identification numbers, and increasing retailer margins

The Chief Minister directed officials to examine the possibility of exempting bars from ARET (Additional Retail Excise Tax).

The implementation of the new excise policy and its impact were discussed comprehensively during the review.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that the excise revenue from October 2024 to October 2025 was Rs 7,041 crore against the target of Rs 8,000 crore.

They revealed that from April 1 to December 17, there was a 4.52 per cent increase in liquor sales, with Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) sales increasing by 19.08 per cent and beer sales by 94.93 per cent. Officials stated that they estimate an income of Rs. 8,422 crore from December 18 to March 2026. A three per cent increase in excise revenue is expected during the current financial year.

The officials said that Andhra Pradesh has shown the highest growth in IMFL and beer sales in South India due to the introduction of international brands and the making of quality liquor available at affordable prices. However, they mentioned that per capita liquor consumption is lower in Andhra Pradesh than in Telangana. While per capita consumption in Telangana is 4.74 litres, it is 2.77 litres in Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister directed that a unique LIN (Liquor Identification Number) be introduced for every liquor bottle in the state as quickly as possible to prevent counterfeit liquor and irregularities, and that it should be easily identifiable by the general public.

He said the LIN should include details such as the brand, batch, and line number, along with the date, hours, minutes, and seconds of manufacture.

The Chief Minister stated that the LIN would rectify the shortcomings of the currently used HEAL (Hologram Excise Adhesive Labels) system. He also said that complete transparency in liquor supply would be achieved through geo-tagging, and instructed officials to focus on tracking and rationalising the number of shops.

“My brother has two young sons. They need at least Rs 25 lakh as compensation, and the Kerala government should provide this. We belong to a Scheduled community. Hyderabad man loses Rs 59 lakh in digital arrest, two held

The accused are involved in 65 cyber fraud cases nationwide, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and other states.

The Hyderabad police have arrested two accused in a 'digital arrest' case in which a senior citizen lost Rs 59 lakh. Cybercrime police arrested the accused who had supplied accounts to cheat the retired employee.

Surampudi Chandrasekhar (31) and Emandi Venkat Naveen (25), both residents of Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh have been arrested.

According to police on December 4, the victim received WhatsApp calls from unknown persons impersonating police and government officials. The fraudsters falsely alleged his involvement in human trafficking, overseas job fraud, and money laundering, and sent forged arrest warrants via WhatsApp to intimidate him. Under continuous threats of arrest, the victim transferred Rs. 59,00,300 through RTGS from his Union Bank of India account between December 4 and 6.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cybercrimes) V Arvind Babu said the accused impersonated as police/government officials, used WhatsApp calls and sent forged arrest warrants to create fear, forced victims to transfer money to multiple bank accounts, used malicious APK files to gain access to internet banking and SMS services, routed funds through shell firm accounts, converted them into cryptocurrency (USDT), and withdrew money via Binance P2P transactions into personal accounts.
The accused are part of an interstate cyber fraud racket. They procured and shared bank accounts for routing cheated funds. So far 15 current bank accounts have been facilitated to the prime accused. They received proceeds in cryptocurrency, later converted to Indian rupees. They assisted the prime accused by providing accounts and technical access.

DRI seizes 190 tonnes of subsidised urea from black market near Bengaluru

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized over 190 tonnes of subsidised urea meant for farmers from a godown near Bengaluru, uncovering an alleged black-marketing racket selling fertiliser at up to Rs 1,500 per bag.

The sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized more than 190 tonnes of subsidised urea fertiliser, intended for farmers, from the black market on the outskirts of Karnataka's Bengaluru on Tuesday, officials said.

The DRI conducted raids at a godown in Arasinakunte near Nelamangala.

The raid followed specific information that subsidised urea, priced at Rs 266, was being sold in the black market for more than Rs 1,500.

The accused allegedly transported the urea, supplied by the Union government for farmers, illegally to the godown, replaced the sacks, and sold it at exorbitant prices.

Sources said that the racket was reportedly run with the collusion of officials from the Agriculture and Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) departments.

Reacting to the development in Belagavi, Leader of the Opposition and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader R. Ashoka said, "This is the biggest scam in the state. Nothing of this scale has happened in the past. Today, DRI officials have seized a huge quantity of urea. This is a matter of shame for the state government."

"The state government has repeatedly targeted the Union over the supply of urea and alleged that the Union has treated the state unfairly. I want to ask the Karnataka Ministers and the Chief Minister -- what do they have to say now?" BJP leader Ashoka asked.

He added, "The Union government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, supplies urea to the state, so how did it end up in the black market? It is being sold at ten times the original price. What action has been taken against the officials involved? The APMC Minister Shivanand Patil should be held accountable," he demanded.

The state government has repeatedly blamed the Union government for a urea shortage during the 2025 Kharif season, while the Union has countered the claims, leading to a significant political disagreement and farmer protests in the state.

The Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy has also described the urea shortage as a national problem.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the state Agriculture Minister wrote multiple times to the Union Minister J.P. Nadda, saying that the Union government had not supplied the full allocated amount of urea on time.

They claimed that the shortfall, along with an early monsoon and increased area under maize cultivation, created an acute crisis and unrest among farmers.

The state government said that it was owed a significant quantity of urea, urging the Union government to expedite the supply.

The Union Ministry of Fertilisers refuted Karnataka's claims, saying that it had ensured the availability of 8.7 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of urea against a pro-rata requirement of 6.3 lakh MT for the 2025 Kharif season.

The Union government said that the urea quantity supplied was sufficient and accused the state government of mismanagement.

Bengaluru Rs 7-Crore Heist: 3 Arrested, 70% Cash Recovered - A Movie-Like Loot Explained in Images

In a remarkable daytime heist in Bengaluru, a gang impersonating Reserve Bank officials stole ₹7.1 crore from a CMS Info Systems cash van. The robbery was executed with precision as the gang misled the staff into a fake compliance check, isolating the cash van.

Bengaluru witnessed one of its most dramatic robberies in recent memory when a gang posing as Reserve Bank of India officials escaped with ₹7.1 crore from a CMS Info Systems cash van in broad daylight. Within 72 hours, police cracked the case with the arrest of three key accused — including a serving police constable — and recovered nearly 70% of the stolen cash. Here is the extraordinary heist, reconstructed step-by-step through images and verified investigation details.

Interception Near Ashoka Pillar

The robbery began at Jayanagar 2nd Block when the CMS armoured van was forced to halt. A Maruti Zen hatchback suddenly cut across its path, and three men emerged flashing what they claimed were Reserve Bank IDs. Confident, uniformed, and carrying files, they told the CMS crew they were conducting a compliance check.

The cash van is stopped near Ashoka Pillar as a Maruti Zen blocks its path and three men posing as RBI officials step out, setting the heist into motion.

Fake

The imposters informed the staff, “We are RBI officials; there is a complaint against your firm.” Believing the story, the gunmen placed their weapons inside the van and stepped out, unknowingly giving away their only defence.

CMS Staff Board the Fake Official Vehicle

The gang escorted the custodian and armed guards into an Innova MUV that carried a fake Government of India symbol. The Zen then steered ahead while the Innova closely followed, creating a convoy that appeared legitimate to bystanders.

Driver Forced to Divert Towards Dairy Circle

The heist was now unfolding with precision. The lone driver was instructed to take the armoured van to Dairy Circle, unaware that the staff had been separated from him. The criminals followed from behind, keeping the van in sight.

At NIMHANS junction, the miscreants abruptly stopped and ordered the three CMS staff to walk away. They were told to go to Siddapura Police Station — effectively isolating the cash van for the final stage of the robbery.

Confrontation on Dairy Circle Flyover

Once the van reached the flyover, the Innova pulled up sharply. The driver was held at gunpoint while ₹7.1 crore in currency boxes were dragged out of the armoured van in full public view — shockingly unnoticed by passing commuters.

Cash Boxes Moved Into WagonR & Escape

The gang then shifted the cash boxes into a waiting Maruti WagonR, dumped the Innova, and sped away. The entire operation was executed in minutes — coordinated, rehearsed, and eerily professional.
In a swift transfer, the gang loads ₹7.1 crore into a Maruti WagonR and speeds away, abandoning the CMS van, the abandoned MUV, and chaos.

Police Examine Crime Scene & Fake Plate Discovery

Police arrived on the scene shortly after and cordoned off the flyover. A fake number plate — KA-03-NC-8052 — was recovered, becoming one of the first solid leads.
Investigators cordon off the flyover, examine the abandoned vehicles, and recover a fake number plate — one of the earliest clues that helped crack the case.

The Investigation That Followed: 200 Officers, 5 States, 72 Hours

Joint Commissioner Dr B.N. Singh confirmed that more than 200 police personnel were deployed. Eleven teams, 11 inspectors, two ACPs and six senior CCB officers worked non-stop under senior supervision, tracking leads across Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala — with a trail extending towards Goa. Within 24 hours, police had identified the suspects, vehicles and movements through CCTV analysis, mobile tower dumps, call detail records, field intelligence and vehicle tracing.

Three Arrests, Insider Angle Confirmed

Three accused were arrested within 54 hours — a police constable, a former CMS employee and the cash van in-charge. Call records showed the constable and ex-employee were in constant touch during the heist and had spoken frequently in the days before, confirming an insider conspiracy.

Within six hours of the arrests, police recovered ₹5.76 crore. A getaway vehicle was found abandoned near Tirupati, adding further proof of the gang’s escape route. Officers believe 6–8 people were involved and efforts are on to arrest the remaining members.

A BJP MLA from Rajasthan was caught in a sting operation demanding a 40% commission to approve a project under the MLA-LAD fund, something long known to happen, but now on video.Take a simple example: if a road project worth ₹1 crore is approved for a village, ₹40 lakh is effectively pocketed by the MLA/MP even before the work begins. From the remaining ₹60 lakh, further cuts go to PWD officials, district and block officials, middlemen, fixers, audit and clearance facilitators, after which the contractor still takes his profit. What finally reaches actual construction may not exceed ₹10 lakh. That is precisely why such projects barely last a few months. In China, such a case would trigger a swift inquiry and severe punishment, including death penalty. In India, there isn’t even an FIR yet. Absolutely nothing will happen.

How a Bengaluru Techie Fell for an AI ‘Girlfriend’ on a Dating App; Loses Rs 1.5 Lakh in Deepfake Se?tortion

A 22-year-old software engineer lost Rs 1.5 lakh after falling into a sextortion trap on a dating app, where fraudsters used an AI-generated deepfake woman to blackmail him.

Bengaluru Techie AI Girlfriend Scam: Amid rising scams on dating apps, a 22-year-old software engineer fell prey to a deepfake and sextortion. The victim had signed up on a dating app, hoping to meet some genuine people, according to a media report. He matched with a profile under the name of “Ishani,” who was reportedly created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The fraudster made him strip over the video call and recorded him secretly to demand money later. During the incident, the victim transferred a total of Rs 1.5 lakh to the accused from multiple accounts.
The victim is a resident of Ejipura and works as a cloud engineer at a private firm. He told police that on January 5, he created a profile on the dating app Happn and connected with a woman who introduced herself as “Ishani”. After exchanging messages and sharing a few basic personal details, they shifted their conversation to WhatsApp, reported The Times of India.

Later in the day, the victim received a video call from the woman’s number. During which, the deepfake woman lured him to strip his clothes over the video call. The victim did as he was told, and the call ended after the conversation was finished. Little did he know that the fraudster secretly recorded him during the call.

Soon after, the techie received a message regarding his private pictures captured during the video call. This followed a series of threatening calls and texts saying the photos and videos would be sent to the victims’ friends and family if he did not transfer money to them. Panicked and fearing, the victim immediately transferred Rs 60,000 to the account the accused referred to. By 4.30 pm on January 6, the victim had sent another Rs 93,000 in several transactions to a bank account and two UPI IDs shared by the accused, using a digital payment app. However, the demand kept growing.
When he could not send more money, the victim shared about the whole incident to a friend, who advised him to approach the police.
Based on his complaint, the central cybercrime police station registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Section 308 (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have launched an investigation to trace the accused.
Police believe the scammers used an AI-generated video of a woman in an intimate pose to trap the victim. A senior officer said many people assume that the person on a video call is real and live, which often leads to such crimes. He added that cases of sextortion linked to dating apps are on the rise and urged users to remain cautious while interacting with strangers online.

Bengaluru Techie Found Dead in Rented Apartment; Neighbours Raised Alarm After Noticing Smoke

A 34-year-old Bengaluru software engineer, Sharmila, died of suspected suffocation after a fire at her rented home. Police are investigating the cause; forensic teams have inspected the scene.

Bengaluru Techie Death: A 34-year-old software engineer died of suspected suffocation after a fire broke out at her rented home in Bengaluru on the night of January 3. The victim, identified as Sharmila, was a native of Mangaluru and worked at Accenture. She lived in Subramanya Layout. The incident came to public attention only after police shared details of the investigation.
Police said neighbours noticed smoke coming out of the house around 10.30 pm, reported NDTV. The house owner, Vijayendra, saw the fire and immediately informed the Ramamurthy Nagar police. Fire and emergency services reached the spot soon after and forced open the door, as thick smoke had filled the house.

Firefighters put out the flames and searched the rooms. They found Sharmila unconscious inside the house. Emergency teams rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police believe Sharmila could not escape because of the heavy smoke and fire. She was staying in one room of the house, while her friend occupied another room but was away in her native place at the time. Investigators think the fire started in the friend’s room. As smoke spread through the house, Sharmila may have inhaled a large amount when she opened her door, causing her to collapse.
Sharmila had moved to Bengaluru about a year ago for work.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory has inspected the site. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. An unnatural death case has been registered at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station.

Bengaluru E-Khata Scam: Over 1,300 Properties Illegally Registered Using Fake Documents - Know What Happened

A major -khata scam in Bengaluru saw 1,400 properties fraudulently registered by misusing the Kaveri 2.0 portal. Five officials were suspended, and police launched a cybercrime investigation.

Bengaluru E-Khata Scam: A massive e-khata scam has been uncovered in Bengaluru after around 1,400 properties were fraudulently registered over a one-year period. After the scandal came to light, the Department of Stamps and Registrations suspended five officials, including sub-registrars and a first division assistant, as per a media report. According to officials, the accused staff members misused the Kaveri 2.0 online portal. They did not upload mandatory e-khata details from the e-Swathu system, allowing illegal sale deed registrations to proceed.
The state had introduced the e-khata system as a digital safeguard to prevent property fraud. The Centre for Smart Governance (CSG), which provides technology support to government departments, identified discrepancies in the system and filed a formal complaint. Following this, the North CEN police registered a cybercrime case against unknown persons under the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to The Times of India.

What happened?

Officials said the Kaveri-2 portal, which has blocked property registrations without a valid e-khata since 2024, was allegedly tampered with. The officials suspect that the fraudsters might have accessed the data from the Unified Land Management System (ULMS). Thereafter, it was manipulated to falsely show certain properties as having valid e-khatas issued by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) department. With the help of this fabricated data, they registered the properties illegally.

Furthermore, the complaint stated that forged property documents were used and in-built system checks were deliberately bypassed. This is the second major case of fraudulent property registration reported since e-khata was made compulsory in Bengaluru.
Sources said the scam largely affected sub-registrar offices dealing with rural gram panchayat properties. Technical investigations reportedly identified software loopholes in several offices, including Banaswadi, Ulsoor, and Varthur, where many of the illegal registrations took place.

Earlier, the court sentenced him to five years in jail and a fine of ₹1 crore, adding that he will be immediately deported after completing his sentence.

An investigation into Sahni's business practices led to the discovery of illicit financial activity, reported the UAE state-owned English-language daily The National, citing court documents. How did the scam work?

The defendants hail from various countries, including Pakistan, the UK, India, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, and the Netherlands.
According to the outlet, funds owned by UK-based drug traffickers were transferred to digital wallets owned by Sahni and managed by his family members. The other defendants then transferred the digital money into cash and delivered it to a rented apartment at a luxury Dubai hotel.

After deducting his fee of four per cent, Sahni deposited the rest of the money into his companies' accounts.

10 attacks on head, blood-soaked floor: Kanpur woman slashes husband with axe; child found hiding in room

After the assault, the woman allegedly cleaned the bloodstains from the floor and misled her in-laws about the cause of injuries, it added.

A woman reportedly killed her husband by repeatedly attacking him with an axe after the couple consumed alcohol together and got into a heated argument at their home in Tikra village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in the Bithoor area, as reported by the Hindi daily Live Hindustan. According to the police, cited in the report, the victim, identified as 45-year-old Pappu, worked in a tile and stone laying firm. He was hospitalised following the attack and died early Thursday morning.

After learning about her husband’s death, the woman allegedly fled the house with their four-year-old son. During the police inspection, the child was reportedly found hiding inside a room before the woman escaped

Police said the woman and her husband had been drinking together when an argument broke out. During the fight, she allegedly picked up an axe kept inside the house and attacked him multiple times.

Quarrel lasted nearly two hours

Police said the argument continued for nearly two hours before the woman allegedly launched the attack. Pappu collapsed on the floor in a pool of blood after being struck repeatedly.
After the assault, the woman allegedly cleaned the bloodstains from the floor and misled her in-laws about the cause of injuries. However, doctors later flagged the nature of the injuries as a sharp-weapon assault.

His mother, Bitola Devi, said that her son married Veerangana in 2019. She said Veerangana was from Tindwari in Banda district and the couple had one son, reported Live Hindustan.

According to Bitola Devi, on Wednesday morning, her daughter-in-law had gone to meet her sisters along with the child, while Pappu went to work. She alleged that Veerangana returned in the evening in an intoxicated state, after which a dispute began between the couple.

Post-mortem reveals 10 injuries on head

Post-mortem findings revealed more than 10 serious injury marks on the victim’s head. Apart from an axe, blunt objects such as a rolling pin and a grinding stone were also allegedly used in the attack.
The investigators are probing if the incident was planned, according to DCP West Dinesh Tripathi it was not accidental. “The couple had consumed alcohol together and the wife then attacked her husband,” he said, adding that the assault was carried out with intent to kill, reported the Hindi daily.

Stopped family from rushing Pappu to hospital

The deceased’s mother alleged that the woman had started quarrelling with her son a few months after the marriage and frequently fought with him.

The victim’s brother Santosh said that when the family reached the house, Pappu was in a critical condition. “As we tried to take him to the hospital, she argued with us and became violent,” he said, adding that the police later shifted Pappu to a private hospital where doctors confirmed a sharp-weapon attack.

Police said the family has not yet submitted a written complaint.

Assam: West Karbi Anglong on Edge as Army Conducts Flag March After Deadly Clashes - Top Developments

In West Karbi Anglong, Assam, a flag march by the Army was initiated to quell violence between the Karbi and Bihari communities, which resulted in two deaths and over 70 injuries, including more than 60 police officers.

Violence-hit areas of Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district remained calm on Wednesday as the Indian Army conducted a flag march and the state government stressed that eviction demands cannot be acted upon due to a court stay.
Two people have been killed and at least 70 others injured, including more than 60 police personnel, in clashes between Karbi and Bihari communities over the past two days in the Kheroni area.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said demands by sections of the Karbi community to evict alleged Hindi-speaking encroachers from Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) and Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) lands cannot be accepted immediately because of a stay by the Gauhati High Court.

“A section of the Karbi people made demands to evict people living in VGR and PGR. There is a stay order by the Gauhati High Court in this regard. No one can ignore the court. If I try to do something, it will be contempt of court,” Sarma told reporters in Naharkatia.

He said all eviction drives carried out by the Assam government in the past were done only after legal clearance from courts. “Even if we say we will evict, the police cannot do it because contempt of court will be applicable to them,” he added.

Army Flag March
The Army was requisitioned by civil authorities and conducted a flag march in sensitive areas of West Karbi Anglong.
Defence PRO Mahender Rawat said, “Indian Army has been requisitioned by civil authorities to aid them for maintaining law and order. Accordingly, one Army column was deployed in disturbed areas of West Karbi Anglong.”
Each Army column generally consists of 60 to 80 personnel.
Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, who has been camping in the area since Monday night, said the situation was now under control.

“Army columns have reached here, and they have marched through these areas. The situation is totally under control now. I have covered the entire area myself,” he said.
DGP Singh said more than 60 police personnel were injured during the violence, some of them seriously. “There were six-seven ambulances, which ferried the police to health centres in Hojai,” he said.
Singh himself suffered a shoulder injury in stone pelting, while IG (Law and Order) Akhilesh Kumar Singh was injured in the leg.

“Legal action required will be taken. We have a lot of video footage, and people are being identified. The law will take its own course,” the DGP said, appealing to people not to indulge in violence.
Chief Minister Sarma said the immediate priority was restoring peace. “Peaceful protests are different, but nobody can solve any problem through violence,” he said. The CM added that the state government has proposed a tripartite meeting involving the state administration, the local council and representatives of the agitating groups.

“Usually, if there is a court order, people do not force things. We will have to look into the incidents of the last two days,” Sarma said.
Protests Continue Over Deaths
Meanwhile, protests continued in parts of the region over the death of a physically disabled man during the violence.
Hindi-speaking residents, joined by members of the Bengali community, blocked the Lanka–Kheroni Road, raising slogans and demanding immediate arrests of those responsible. Protesters also sought Rs 20 lakh compensation for the victim’s family. Demonstrations were also held in neighbouring Hojai district.
Three Karbi youths injured in police firing on Tuesday are undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where officials said their condition is stable.

I froze, then fought back: Bengaluru woman speaks out on groping on metro train

A 45-year-old man allegedly groped a young woman during a metro ride on December 23, prompting her to confront him inside the coach and at the station.

A 45-year-old man allegedly groped a young woman during a metro journey on December 23, triggering an immediate confrontation by the victim.

Recounting the incident, the woman said she was seated between two passengers and the journey was uneventful initially. “And till half of the journey, I was feeling very comfortable. Nobody was doing anything, everybody was looking at their phone,” she said.

The situation changed when the man seated next to her got down and another passenger took the vacant seat. “And the moment he sat, I felt a little bit, crushed in between the two people because he really sat close to me,” she said, adding that she tried to shift to make space, assuming it was due to crowding.

She alleged that the man soon began touching her inappropriately. “And then I could feel some hand coming to my side so I could feel something like this,” she said, explaining that she initially dismissed it as accidental and adjusted further to avoid discomfort.

However, she said the behaviour escalated when the man pressed his leg against hers. “Then this dude put his leg onto my leg like, keeping it closer and touching my leg. So I told him to, please move your leg,” she said.

Despite her objection, she alleged that the man repeated the act. “And in that moment I realised that this is not a mistake, this is intentional. This dude is trying, not trying, this dude is touching me,” she said.

The woman said she froze briefly after realising what was happening but decided to act when her station arrived. “If I am getting down here, I can't react to this and this person is going to, you know, get a pass for what he has done, and he is going to be, doing this more in the metro with other people,” she said.

She said she confronted the man inside the metro coach. “So I got up and I slapped him. I gave one tight slap and asked him to get up,” she said, adding that the man also got down at the same station, where she slapped him again.

After slapping him, the woman recorded the man on her mobile phone. She claimed that in the video, the man was seen smiling despite the confrontation. She also said she addressed him on camera, telling him, “Smile, smile, I will make you famous.”

Describing his reaction, she said the man appeared apologetic but avoided explaining himself. “'Sorry,' he's saying, then he's saying something else,” she said, adding that he was speaking in Kannada, which she did not understand.

Metro security personnel intervened and took both the woman and the man aside following the incident. Police later recorded a non-cognisable report, saying that no formal complaint has been filed by the victim yet.

LDA employee loses ₹23 lakh in gift scam

Fraudsters gather personal details of her family, threaten to kill them or implicate them in a criminal case

A Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) employee was allegedly duped of ₹23 lakh after she fell victim to a gift delivery trap, police said.

The complainant, Jyoti Singh from Takrohi in Indira Nagar here, told police that on her wedding anniversary on November 28 she received a WhatsApp call from a stranger, who introduced himself as Manoj and claimed to be living abroad. The caller said he wanted to send her an anniversary gift.

Despite her refusal, she later received a call from another person claiming to be a courier agent, who demanded ₹10,000 to “return” the parcel. To avoid any inconvenience on her anniversary, she transferred the amount.

The next day, the woman received a call from a different number, with the caller identifying himself as a CBI officer. He claimed that the parcel contained objectionable materials and threatened her with arrest if the issue was not “resolved.” Out of fear, the victim reconnected with the so-called courier agent.

Police said the fraudsters escalated the pressure through repeated video calls and messages. They allegedly gathered personal details about her husband and children and threatened to kill them or implicate the family in a criminal case unless money was paid.

Between November 29 and December 22, Singh was made to transfer money to multiple bank accounts. Under pressure, she reportedly sold her jewellery and borrowed money from relatives and friends, eventually paying the callers a sum of ₹23.33 lakh.

The fraudsters assured her that the money would be returned and persuaded her to open a new bank account on December 17.The scam came to light on December 23 when her husband received a call.

An FIR was registered at the cyber crime police station on December 24. SHO Brijesh Yadav said the case was being investigated, and the transaction chain was being traced.”

Went For Love, Fell in Trap Instead: Mumbai Man Duped By Woman He Met on Dating App

Went For Love, Fell in Trap Instead: Mumbai Man Duped By Woman He Met on Dating App

A 52-year-old businessman from Mumbai was swindled of over Rs 53 lakh after meeting a woman named Priyanka Gupta on a dating app while seeking a marriage partner. She lured him into a fake gold trading scheme, claiming to invest through a company called Market Axess.

Mumbai: What began as a search for companionship on a dating app ended in a devastating financial blow for a 52-year-old Mumbai-based businessman, who was allegedly cheated of over Rs 53 lakh by a woman he met online and later agreed to marry. The woman is accused of luring him into a fraudulent investment scheme under the guise of gold trading, police said on Thursday.

Met on Dating App While Looking to Marry

According to the complaint, the businessman, who runs a logistics firm and a marketing company, had joined a dating app with the intention of getting married. He soon received a friend request from a woman identifying herself as Priyanka Gupta, who claimed to be a resident of Juhu.

During their initial conversations, the woman told him she was separated from her husband and living with her six-year-old daughter. The two later shifted their conversations to WhatsApp, where she reportedly told him that she wished to marry a businessman and not a salaried professional.

As their conversations progressed, the two decided to get married. On October 13, the woman allegedly introduced the complainant to what she described as a lucrative gold trading business, claiming she invested through a firm called Market Axess Company and earned high returns.

Initially hesitant, the businessman was eventually persuaded. The woman allegedly helped him create an account on the company’s platform, after which he began investing money over time.

Rs 53 Lakh Invested, Rs 1.08 Crore Shown Virtually

According to the police complaint, the man deposited a total of Rs 53.30 lakh into the trading account. The platform later showed his virtual balance had grown to Rs 1.08 crore.
However, when he attempted to withdraw a portion of the funds, company representatives told him he would first have to deposit an additional 30 per cent of the amount as a prerequisite.
Unable to arrange the extra money, the businessman requested a refund of his original investment. At this stage, he allegedly began receiving evasive responses from the company’s representatives, raising suspicions about the legitimacy of the scheme.
Realising that he had likely been cheated, the businessman approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against two unidentified persons on charges of cheating and relevant offences under the Information Technology Act. Further investigation into the dating app profile, money trail, and the alleged trading platform is currently underway.

Video: Tamil Nadu boys attack migrant worker with machete, flash 'victory' sign

A video showing four minors brutally attacking a migrant worker in Tamil Nadu with machetes has gone viral, triggering outrage and prompting a police investigation.

A migrant worker from Madhya Pradesh was brutally attacked with machetes by four minors in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvallur district, leaving him critically injured. The incident, which was recorded on a mobile phone by the attackers themselves, has sparked outrage after the video surfaced and went viral on social media.

The videos also showed one of the attackers flashing a victory sign after the assault.

The victim, identified as Siraj, was first targeted while travelling on a moving train. The accused minors allegedly threatened him with machetes during the journey, even as they recorded a video. What began as intimidation soon escalated into a violent assault.

Siraj was later taken by the group to a secluded spot near a railway station, where he was repeatedly attacked with machetes. The assault was filmed on a phone camera, capturing the brutality of the act.

The visuals, now widely circulated online, show the extent of the violence inflicted on the migrant worker.

Siraj sustained severe injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. His condition has been described as critical.

Police have taken note of the viral video and initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited as authorities probe the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those involved.

PALANISWAMY EXPRESSES SHOCK

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswamy reacted to the incident and called it "utterly shocking".

"The news that four 17-year-old boys, who were filming Reels with knives on a train from Chennai to Tiruttani, brutally attacked a young man from North India named Suraj—who had tried to stop them—with sickles in a murderous frenzy is utterly shocking. Just watching the video related to this attack sends chills down my spine. It's utterly shameful that hands that should be holding schoolbooks are now wielding machetes," he wrote in Tamil on X.

He launched an attack on the DMK-run state government, saying that he was overwhelmed by the "rage that Mr.@mkstalin's DMK government has pushed Tamil Nadu into such a barbaric state".

Cops Of Top Madhya Pradesh Police Station Kidnap Student, Frame Him In Fake Case

The Class 12 student was forcibly taken off a moving bus on August 29. Hours later, police declared he had been caught with 2.7 kg of opium.

Bhopal:
In a sensational twist that has rocked Madhya Pradesh's police establishment, the Malhargarh police station, which recently ranked ninth among the country's best police stations, now stands disgraced after the High Court uncovered explosive evidence showing that its own officers kidnapped an innocent student from a bus and framed him in a fake drug smuggling case.

What the police claimed was a "major narcotics arrest" has now been exposed as a shocking abuse of power, forcing the Mandsaur Superintendent of Police to stand before the High Court and admit that the case was fabricated.

The victim, an 18-year-old Class 12 student, Sohan, from Malhargarh, was forcibly taken off a moving bus on August 29. Hours later, police declared he had been caught with 2.7 kg of opium and produced him in court the next day, which sent him to jail.

On Camera, Madhya Pradesh Cops Kidnap Student, Frame Him In Fake Drugs Case

The Class 12 student was forcibly taken off a moving bus on August 29. Hours later, police declared he had been caught with 2.7 kg of opium.

On Camera, Madhya Pradesh Cops Kidnap Student, Frame Him In Fake Drugs Case

The victim was an 18-year-old student

CCTV footage, mobile videos, and witness accounts, however, told a different story.

The evidence showed no drugs, no chase, and no seizure - only a group of policemen in plain clothes stopping a bus, dragging the student out, and disappearing with him.

His family then went to the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on December 5, alleging illegal abduction, wrongful arrest, and fabrication of evidence.

During Tuesday's hearing, the High Court demanded the personal presence of the Mandsaur Superintendent of Police, Vinod Kumar Meena.

Meena admitted that Sohan was indeed picked up from the bus by the Malhargarh police officers. The arrest shown in the first information report (FIR) does not match the actual time and location captured on video.

The entire operation was led by a head constable from Malhargarh. The case registered against the student was filed after he was already in illegal custody. The investigation was not conducted following legal procedures.

In a major embarrassment, Meena also confirmed that the officers seen boarding the bus whom the police earlier disowned were police personnel from Malhargarh, contradicting earlier statements made by the district administration.

Meena told the court he has suspended six Malhargarh policemen, including those who dragged the student off the bus, and ordered a departmental inquiry.

The High Court has now reserved its order, with legal experts expecting strict action.

Senior advocate Himanshu Thakur said, "The court saw all evidence. It accepted that Sohan was illegally kidnapped from a bus and falsely shown arrested with 2.7 kg of opium at 5 pm. He is a bright student who passed Class 12 in the first division. The SP admitted in court that the Malhargarh police acted illegally and outside the law. Even the officer who earlier denied knowing the bus-boarding men has been contradicted; all were police officers."

The Malhargarh police station last month earned national recognition, ranking ninth among India's best police stations.

You Gave Him Alms. He Gave Loans: Indore Beggar’s Hidden Crorepati Life Exposed

An Indore man long believed to be a destitute beggar was found to own multiple houses, vehicles and run a money-lending operation, shocking residents and officials.

For years, the narrow lanes of Indore’s Sarafa bullion market told a familiar story. Amid the clink of gold bangles and the hum of evening shoppers, a frail, leprosy-afflicted man would slide quietly through the crowd on a wooden cart. As per reports a worn bag hung from his shoulder. Old shoes, clutched in his hands, helped him push forward inch by inch. He never called out. He never pleaded. He simply existed in the corner of people’s vision, a silent reminder of poverty that prompted loose change to drop into his bag.
Last week, that story collapsed.

What began as a routine anti-begging drive by Indore’s Women and Child Development Department ended in a revelation that stunned officials and residents alike. The man many believed lived hand to mouth was, in fact, wealthier than a large section of those who gave him alms.

The man, identified as Mangilal, 50, was picked up late on Saturday night during a citywide drive aimed at enforcing Indore’s ban on begging. Officials say they received specific information about him around 10 pm and tracked him down near Sarafa, where he had been a familiar presence for years.

A Hidden Fortune

As authorities began verifying his background, the picture that emerged bore no resemblance to the one etched in public memory.

“We have learned that this man owns three concrete houses, including a three-storey building,” Dinesh Mishra, nodal officer for the department’s begging eradication campaign was quoted as saying by a Indian Express report. “He has three autorickshaws that he rents out. The man also owns a car in which he goes begging. He has hired a driver for this purpose.”
According to officials, Mangilal’s assets include a three-storey house in Bhagat Singh Nagar, a 600-square-foot home in Shivnagar, and a one-bedroom flat in Alwas. He lives in Alwas with his elderly parents, while his two brothers live separately.
The revelations did not stop at property ownership.
Authorities as per Indian Express revealed that Mangilal ran an informal money-lending operation in the Sarafa area, where he allegedly lent between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh to local traders and residents. From this, he earned daily interest of over Rs 1,000, apart from the Rs 400 to Rs 500 he made every day through begging.

Poverty as Performance

His method, officials said, was carefully calculated.
“He never asked for money directly, simply positioning himself near shoppers until they voluntarily gave,” Mishra said.
That quiet presence, combined with his physical condition, created an image that discouraged suspicion and encouraged sympathy. Over time, it also helped him build a steady income stream that remained hidden in plain sight.
What made the discovery even more unsettling for officials was the level of planning involved. Mangilal, they said, used a car to travel for begging and had employed a driver solely for that purpose. The wooden cart and shoes were part of a carefully sustained image that allowed him to operate undisturbed for years.

Following his rescue, Mangilal was moved to the Sevadam Ashram in Ujjain, where he will remain while authorities complete verification of his assets and income.
District Collector Shivam Verma said the administration would act after confirming all details. “Indore is a beggar-free city, and the government is arranging for the rehabilitation of beggars so that they do not face any kind of inconvenience,” Verma said.

Tripura student called Chinese, faced racial attack before murder? What cop said

After the brother of the student, who died in an alleged racial attack, told India Today TV that they were cornered by a group of locals drinking on the street and calling them "Chinki," Dehradun's senior police official has now dismissed the allegations, saying there was no racial provocation.

In a fresh twist in the case of an alleged racial attack on a student from Tripura in Dehradun, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh dismissed the allegations made by the victim's family, saying there was no racial angle to the attack, and that the fight began over a joke.

"There was no provocation," Singh told India Today TV when asked whether the victim, Anjel Chakma, had faced a racial attack, as claimed by his brother.

"The fight began over a joke. There is nothing to suggest racism," he added. The senior police official further said that there was no question of the accused cracking racial jokes, noting that one of them was from Nepal while the other was from the North Eastern region.

Earlier, Michael, the brother of the student who died in an alleged racial attack, told India Today TV that they were cornered by a group of locals drinking on the street and calling them "Chinki."

"There was a group and they were drinking. When we arrived, they started poking us, calling us ‘Chinki’. When I confronted them about why they were abusing us, they attacked me with a kada. When my brother intervened, they stabbed him in the back," he told India Today TV.

Anjel's father, Tarun Prasad Chakma, alleged that the police initially refused to register a case, terming the incident a “minor matter”, and acted only after the family intervened.

However, Singh said that the police acted immediately, went to the site of the incident, and collected evidence.

Speaking to mediapersons from his home in North Tripura, Anjel’s father, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, said the delay in registering the FIR compounded the family’s trauma at a time when his son was battling for life.

"They wanted to file an FIR, but they were refused, being told it was a minor matter. Only when we went there did they finally register the case," he said.

Kerala man's suicide over bus video: Woman slapped with abetment charges

The woman, Shimjitha Musthafa, who was on the same bus, recorded a video and alleged that Deepak misbehaved with her

Kerala police on Monday booked a woman after a 42-year-old man died by suicide over a viral video where she accused him of sexual harassment on a crowded bus.

The woman, identified as Shimjitha Musthafa, 35, from Vadakara, was slapped with suicide abetment charges, according to officials at Kozhikode Medical College police station. A case of unnatural death was registered initially. Later, Deepak's family members lodged a complaint, following which police registered a case under BNS Section 108 for abetment to suicide.

The victim, Deepak U, was found hanging at his residence in Govindhapuram, Kozhikode, on Sunday. Working at a textile firm, he was travelling to Kannur on a KSRTC bus on Friday when the video was shot.

The woman, who was on the same bus, recorded a video and alleged that he misbehaved with her. Deepak, who saw the video on social media, ended his life, according to his relatives.

On the night before his death, Deepak was planning to sue the woman YouTuber, according to his close friend, Asgar Ali. He was confident about his innocence, Ali told Onmanorama.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission also directed an investigation into the incident and directed the North Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police to submit a report within a week.

BJP leader and former Goa governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, who visited the bereaved family, alleged that the woman who recorded the video was an active worker of a political party and had been an elected representative. He claimed that there is an uptick of such incidents, which are intended for financial gain through social media posts.

Why Madurai man killed senior branch manager inside LIC building by setting her ablaze

The death of a senior woman manager, Kalyani Nambi, inside a Madurai LIC building fire in December, was revealed to be a premeditated act of murder committed by her colleague, police say

In a shocking twist, the death of a senior woman Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) manager in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, which was initially thought of as an accident, was found to be premeditated murder.

Tamil Nadu police discovered that Kalyani Nambi, a 54-year old senior official, was doused with petrol and set on fire by her colleague T.Ram who was an assistant administrative officer at LIC.

The incident occurred in December 2025 on West Perumal Maistry Street in Madurai. The death was initially declared as an accident caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner.

What actually led to the murder?

Kalyani Nambi was transferred from Tirunelvelli to Madurai only recently. After she began her work, she discovered multiple irregularities in the settlements and payment of compensation to policyholders over death claims.

In particular, she found that T Ram had over 40 pending death claims which went unsettled along with other agents.

Kalyani had warned him of disciplinary action regarding the matter.

Enraged by her warning, on December 17, around 7 pm, Ram doused the document and computers in the office room with petrol and set it on fire. Kalyani Nambi, who rushed in, raised an alarm. She also had called her 25-year-old son, Lakshmi Narayanan, to ask him to inform the police.

Ram, who saw the call being made, poured petrol on the woman and pushed her into the burning room and locked the door from outside. The petrol had also gotten on Ram’s leg, and he had suffered minor injuries.

The complaint to the police was filed by Lakshmi Narayanan at Thilakar Thidal police station.

One eyewitness who saw the burning building told police that a passerby ignored the screams of the woman who was trapped in the building. When the ambulance arrived, it only assisted the ram and sent him to the hospital.

Ram’s statement to the police was found to be inconsistent. He initially told authorities that the fire was set by a man who entered to rob Kalyani of her jewellery.

Authorities checked CCTV footage from the office after the complaint was made. Narayanan had told police that his mother had made a last-minute call before her death after she sensed danger. They also recovered a plastic bottle filled with petrol from his cabin.

Police have also said that the murder was carefully planned. At around 8:30, Ram had cut the main power supply to the building and sent an email to the Tamil Nadu electricity board reporting a fault.

He also chained the main glass entrance, cutting the access to the lobby.

Ram was arrested on Monday at his residence and admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital.

The charges against him now include murder, destruction of evidence, failure to report an offence and giving false information. The investigation is ongoing and police are looking into the pending insurance claims.

‘Slapped Him, But He Kept Smiling’: Bengaluru Woman Shares What Elderly Man Did with Her on Namma Metro

Bengaluru News: A 25-year-old Bengaluru woman alleges a 55-year-old man inappropriately touched her on Namma Metro. She confronted him, slapped him, and filed a police NCR; he was questioned and released.

Bengaluru: A 25-year-old woman recounted a frightening incident on a Namma Metro train in central Bengaluru, where she said a 55-year-old man inappropriately touched her during her journey home from work on Tuesday, December 23. The incident came to light when a video went viral, showing the elderly man laughing when the woman confronted him. The woman said the accused was drunk at the time he boarded the train and sat next to her. The police arrested the accused but released him later with a warning.

The woman said the man repeatedly pressed against her and even placed his leg against hers. At first, she thought it might have been accidental, but she soon realised it was intentional. “I froze when I realised he was touching me deliberately,” she said. When her station arrived, she confronted and slapped him both inside the train and on the platform. Metro security intervened, taking both to the police station. The man was questioned, warned, and released.

The woman expressed frustration over the advice she reportedly received from police, who told her to move away if she felt unsafe in the future. “How would I know if someone sitting next to me is a predator? Should I ask every man I meet, ‘Are you a predator?’” she said.

She also shared that the man had been riding the metro for nearly an hour without getting off, suggesting he may have been loitering.
The police registered a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR), which records the complaint but does not allow immediate arrest without court approval.

Newly-wed woman dies by suicide after alleged dowry harassment in Karnataka; husband, in-laws arrested

During preliminary inquiry, the husband's family told the police that they were not at home at the time of the incident. However, no suicide note has been recovered so far.

Bengaluru:
A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide nearly a month after her wedding in Bengaluru after facing continuous physical and mental harassment for dowry, police said on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Aishwarya C K, who married Likhith Simha on November 27.

Police said the incident took place on December 24 within the jurisdiction of the Bagalagunte police station. No suicide note has been recovered so far, according to the news agency PTI.

Husband and in-laws arrested

Simha (28), a real estate agent, has been arrested along with his mother and brother in connection with the case. The accused have been booked under sections relating to murder and dowry harassment, officials said.

During the preliminary inquiry, the husband's family told police they were not at home at the time of the incident. On returning, they allegedly found Aishwarya hanging from a ceiling fan using her saree and rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

What did the woman's family say?

In his complaint, the woman’s father alleged that despite meeting dowry demands and spending a substantial amount on the wedding, his daughter was subjected to continuous physical and mental harassment by her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

He further claimed that Aishwarya was repeatedly humiliated, intimidated, and abused, and that the harassment continued even after efforts were made to counsel the couple and resolve the dispute. The complainant also said he spoke to his daughter on December 24, during which she sounded extremely distressed, and held her husband and his family responsible for her death.

Based on the father's complaint, a case has been registered against the three accused under Sections 103 (murder), 80 (dowry death), and 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death, police said.

In Assam Shocker, Couple Burnt Alive Over Witchcraft Suspicion

The attackers first attacked the couple with sharp weapons inside their house and later set the premises on fire, resulting in their death.

Guwahati:
A horrific incident has emerged from Assam, where a couple was killed after being burnt alive by a group of villagers on the suspicion of practising witchcraft in the Anlong district. Sources told NDTV that the incident occurred on Tuesday at No. 1 Beloguri Munda village in the Howraghat area of Karbi Anglong.

The victims were identified as Gardi Birowa (43) and Mira Birowa (33). The attackers first attacked the couple with sharp weapons inside their house and later set the premises on fire, resulting in their death. Soon after the incident, police officials reached the crime spot and began an investigation. All the accused were arrested.

A police official told the news agency PTI that the region (where the crime occurred) has been under the grip of supersition. "People still believe in rumours, leading to sufferings of some," the official said.

This incident has again sparked the fear of witch-hunting in Assam, a state that has very stringent anti-witch-hunting laws in place. The Assam Witch Hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection) Act was launched by the state government in 2015.

The act implements strict punishment and fines for branding people as "witches" and subsequently killing them. In the last 10 years, Assam has seen more than 100 deaths in cases of "witch hunting."

Karnataka crash horror: Uttara Kannada Police probe exposes brutal murder, not 'road accident'

Uttara Kannada Police revealed that the January 7 Karnataka road crash killing two fish traders was actually a premeditated murder by their friend Pramod Nayak over a financial dispute, not an accident.

New Delhi:
In a major twist in the Karnataka road crash that killed two people, the Uttara Kannada Police has exposed that the incident was not an accident but a brutal murder by a friend of the two deceased.

On January 7, charred bodies of fish traders Manjunath and Chandrashekhar were found inside a burnt car near Sulemurki Cross in Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. Initially, Honnavar police registered it as an accident case. However, the investigation has revealed that it was a murder for money.

The main accused, Pramod Nayak, allegedly killed his two friends over a financial dispute and attempted to pass it off as an accident by setting the car on fire. Police have arrested Pramod.

Victims' demand investigation, police uncover matter

The matter was uncovered after the families of the two victims suspected foul play and demanded a detailed investigation. During questioning, the police grew suspicious of their friend Pramod due to his behaviour, after which he absconded. Following a 14-day search, police arrested him. Pramod later confessed to the murders.

Pramod allegedly murdered friends using pesticide, investigation revealed

The police investigation has revealed that Pramod had lent Rs 5 lakh to his friends for business purposes, but they failed to repay the amount for a long time, leading to frequent disputes. Enraged, Pramod killed both of them using pesticide. To evade the law, he and his accomplices transported the bodies in a car to Sule Murki, pushed the vehicle off the road, and set it on fire to make the crime appear like an accident.

The prime accused Pramod, is currently in police custody. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to trace other accused involved in the crime.
