Tabloid stuff this so read at your own intellectual risk :)

AUSTRALIA coach Darren Lehmann says Pakistan will draw false inspiration from their Test series triumph on dead Arabian strips with dinky bounce ahead of Friday’s World Cup quarter-final in Adelaide.

Pakistan is citing a 2-0 Test series win in the United Arab Emirates last November against an Australian outfit containing spearheads Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc as cause for optimism entering the knockout final.

However Pakistan has won four of 17 one-day matches in Adelaide while their batting can be brittle under pressure a world away from the Middle East.

“The wicket did not bounce at all in Dubai so you can say we will have three times as much bounce in Adelaide as Dubai where it didn’t bounce above knee height,” Lehmann said.

“It is a totally different story which we are looking forward to.”

Opener Sarfraz Ahmed says his side is stocked with crack left-armers of their own and has nothing to fear from an Australian side it has seen and conquered before.

Lehmann countered, saying leading World Cup wicket-taker Starc (16) is in the form of his life.

Johnson, with nine scalps this tournament, is also recovering rhythm and brimming to front Pakistan at the venue where he destroyed England with 7-40 in the second Test two years ago.

“Mitchell Starc has been outstanding and the bowler of the tournament and I have been really happy with Mitchell Johnson, the way he has come back,” said Lehmann with Johnson conceding 0-68 from six overs in the group game against New Zealand at Eden Park.

“He is starting to hit his straps at the right time and looking good. Our attack is looking as good as theirs.”

Lehmann famously hit the winning runs in the 1999 World Cup final against Pakistan at Lord’s but urged his men to create their own place in Australian sporting folklore.

“It was a great memory but these guys have a chance to create their own history,” said Lehmann.

“It will be a tough game. We are looking forward to some support, we want a packed house obviously and we need to bring our A-game as you do.

“The batting performances from both sides will be the key.”

Australia is deciding whether to blast away Pakistan with Pat Cummins’ thunderbolts supporting Johnson and Starc or opt for Josh Hazlewood’s awkward bounce and control.

Pakistan’s pace attack is their strength with Sohail Khan, Ehsan Adil, left-armers Wahab Riaz and Rahat Ali all firing. Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi is due to explode in his farewell tournament.

Veteran batsman Younis Khan was omitted for all-rounder Haris Sohail in the win against Ireland but Lehmann said Australia was “preparing” for anything his Pakistan counterpart Waqar Younis rolls out.
“They are going to be a really good side, have lots of tricks in their cupboard as we have. We are looking forward to two good attacks going at it,” said Lehmann, urging his hometown fans to be Australia’s 12th man on Friday against a rival on a four-game winning streak.

“When you reach the knockout stages you have to perform well. Hopefully the result goes our way against a quality side and we move on to Sydney.”

LOL Mr. Lehmann, we have played there twice already in this tournament and most recently before you :)

Game on. Looking for a great battle like they had in the last World T20 encounter

Will the ball bounce less for Pakistan bowlers? #justasking

Remember it was Pakistan that stopped the 34 games winnings streak of Aus in WC's

And on Friday it will be Pakistan that break's many Aus home fan's heart's

Man these Aussies are really running their mouth, almost comparable to the kind of statements we were getting from our camp before the India match.

Is it a case of fear of the unknown?

great, even more reason they won' t be able to handle bounce from Afridi and Yasir shat and lose 6-7 wickets to them.

oh and just in case, we'll have enough bounce to trouble them from our pace attack.

We beat them in 2011 World Cup, 2014 t20 World Cup and 2012 t20 World Cup. Also conquered them in UAE #2-0.

#bunnies

Get in there people. Wins and losses come and go, but the older I get the more fun I have from people trash talking, allegedly or not.

Chal chal sarkon pe hogi dhan dhan.

Didn't bounce much at all, really thought the track had little for pacemen.

Imagine Australia bat first, Warner and Finch stride out as if they are going to conquer the world and bully the minuscule Pakistanis.

New ball bowler Rahat, a small town boy of impoverished parents.

Runs in.

Ball pitches outside off.

Darts in.

Warner castled.

Man that would be epic, I'll literally do a victory lap of my house if that happens..

not in ODIs which kind of sucked because they were playing in our 'home'. Lehmann is kind arrogant and always looked in shock when whenever we defeated Australia. I hope he gets served on Friday

beating on the Arabian strips hurts Coach. Darren wants to say we are also tigers on our strips. Interesting match ahead.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall

Way to go, made it to the facebook page!

Loool Aussies phir ro rahin hain. Dubai is as flat as most of your wickets just less bounce. What stopped your batsman smashing our rookie bowling attack on those dead roads. And Adelaide wouldnt be out of place in the desert one of the biggest roads in the world. Lehmann sounding his mouth off likr a fool.

Haha the ones who runs their mouths too much always end up putting more pressure on themselves and losing the game. Ask pakistan team before every game against India.

The odds are heavily stacked in their favor , Pakistan know that they will be lucky to even get a close game.

He's have a point if it was Perth or Brisbane.

There is nothing terrifying about Adelaide.

Someone ask Lehman if he knows that PAK's last 4 group games have been away from the UAE.

Damn, this is the most i've heard from the aus camp before a game in a while. Looks like they are very confident. Let's see what happens come friday.

Don't get riled up. Boof is just messing with our batsmen so that they are literally on the backfoot when the game begins.

Boof will go Poof (disappear) once Pakistan thrash these arrogant Aussies :excitedtroll

This is the reaction that they are hoping from the players: ultraggressive will lead to bad cricket.

If you read beyond the headlines , he is pretty respectful of the opposition much like Watson , have always admired the way australia play their cricket , i think there is a mutual respect between the two countries as is apparent by that article by the Aussie journalist on Cricinfo.

Common dude , I dont think India said a word about the match. Infact I heard all the statements only from Pak camp.

That's exactly what I said.

I said "comparable to the kind of statement we (Pakistan) were getting from our (Pakistan) camp before the India match."

Pakistan batmen are the worst performer in the world cup among the test playing team. They are extraordinary ordinary.

Australia is tough to beat at home. Strong side. Pakistan has a very little chance of toppling them but then its ckt

this match is going one of 2 ways, pakistan will attack and hit their highest score of the world cup / skittle aus out for under 150.

or we will see a repeat of the 1-4 scorecard against windies.

Somebody's gonna eat a humble pie.. C'mon Pakistan, let's defeat this arrogant bunch!

Might just be mind games but with our mentally fragile and weak minded players, it might just be a obvious masterstroke :))

Subcontinent fans unfortunately have the tendency to take gamesmanship or trash talk very personally almost as a insult. Lehmann is just playing mind games with your players and nothing else. The funny thing is it might actually work even though Pakistan just played in Adelaide.

All these statements by Aussies clearly show that they are scared of Pakistan for some very odd reason. On paper, Australia is ahead of Pakistan in every single department.

UAE test series scars obviously, different format but the way they were disgraced was something we haven't even done to Zimbabwe or Bengalis in recent years.

Ganja has a big mouth, but only if we had the means to put him in his place.

So before the WC you were a Pakistani fan and now you support UAE just because you live there and aren't even Arab.

:afridi

This comment takes me back to some thread made sometime back.. Nostalgia!

They aren't scared, they are hungry for revenge. They seem to be in the mood for destruction, which I don't like.

I'd really like a moral victory here.

I am UAE national.I have no links to Pakistan btw what is Pakistan? Does anyone here know what is Pakistan?

So now you need moral win and week ago you were saying Associates can only win moral victories

If they were in a mood for revenge, they wouldn't be giving all these statements. It's just like how Pakistani players were giving statements before the Indian game.

Deep down they seem to be scared for some odd reason.

As if Pakistan didn't play a game in same venue earlier.

What I find really ironic is the way you were mocking fans who were celebrating the Zimbabwe victory and have been talking about the sad state of affairs Pak cricket is in with such celebrations in minnow victories etc.

Yet throughout this quarter final build up you have been talking about hoping for a 'small loss rather than a thrashing' and a 'moral victory'. In doing so you're epitomizing the very defeatist attitude you seemed to oppose previously.

Pakistan need to hold on to their chances, umar akmal HAS to bat at 4 and yasir shah should replace ehsan adil. I feel haris sohail can sneak in a few cheap overs as well, aussies have only 1 leftie in their top 8. I feel it will go to the wire. Hopefully pak beats aus...

Agree with u!

Before Irfans news, I was giving 60-40 (quite close) in Australia's favour but after Irfans incident I would unfortunately have to give 75-25 in AU favour.

I just crapped my pants reading this... should we call the team back?????

We saw that against Irish and we will be getting your batsmen out on "straight deliveries."

Isn't three times zero still zero?

It's only Adelaide! Even Wasim Akram has a Test ton against the Aussies there. And the 2015 track is flatter and less grassy than that one was.

Not if you played previous match on the same ground and won it without any trouble.

i remember saqlain had an odi 5fer here IIRC pak defended something like 220 in that match and warne also took 3/4 wickets

Imran also scored a test hundred in same match with Wasim otherwise we were going to lose that Test match after early collapse

Sure, but on Day 5 in that Test only Dean Jones' second century of the match stopped Mushtaq Ahmed from bowling Pakistan to an historic victory as the Aussies hung on for a draw.

I think that Mushy's last day performance at Adelaide in 89-90 is driving why he wants Yasir Shah to be selected.

I just want him picked because I think Ehsan Adil will get thrashed on this flat track.

Yes

And that was the first Test where Wasim took a 5fer and scored a hundred

I know its very selfish to pray to God for your sport team to win or lose, but please, God, make Australia lose BADLY

Looks like reverse psychology in play.
He seems scared and coming up with big words and hot air in a lame effort to enforce his superiority.

Honestly speaking,
This statement actually gives me hope that we can now beat them !!

Well Pakistan will have almost every cricket fan from almost every country (including India, since they would probably prefer not to face Australia) behind them. How we would love to see the Aussies knocked out in their own back yard.

Well it's more like.. I would be supporting any team that plays Australia in the KO stages

Lehmann was expecting Irfan, and fully fit if Pakistan batted first they probably were 45% likely to win.

But with him out, I rate Pakistan 25% if they bat first and 10% if they bat second.

Before this statement, I wasn't giving Pak even 10%
