Yorkshire and England all-rounder David Willey has been ruled out of the Royal London One-Day International series against Pakistan after suffering an injury to his left hand during the NatWest T20 Finals Day.

An X-ray, on Sunday, has not excluded a significant injury.

The 26-year-old will have a further scan and be reviewed by a consultant on Monday. He has been withdrawn from England's ODI squad until a clear diagnosis has been established.

Willey will be replaced in the squad by Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball, who will join his teammates in Southampton on Monday ahead of the opening match at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday.

Jake ball not a bad replacement
i think England first odi bowling line up will be
Chris Woakes
Chris Jordan
Mark Wood
Liam Plunkett
Moeen Ali
Adil Rashid

Hopefully stokes is not allowed to bowl otherwise England's batting depth is just unfair!!

Plunkett and rashid will be vying for number 10 set ahead of wood and they both would walk into the number 8 spot in our line up.
Wood can also bat

Saw Mark Wood ball at the finals day yesterday if i was Hafeez and Azhar id be very worried. He was bowling 90+mph rockets cutting players like Root and Barstow in half before getting them out. Root especially looked clueless against Wood.

Expect Stokes may play as a batsman anyway if not, would be a bit harsh on Bairstow though. Given the way he was running between the wickets and chucking himself around in the field yesterday though I doubt he'll be held back from bowling much longer at all.

David Willie won't play in the ODI series vs Pakistan.

England left arm seamer David Willey has been ruled out from the one day series v Pakistan. Jake Ball to replace him.

Your views ?

He's excellent at swinging the new ball for England, great news for Pakistan

Sigh of relief for the Pakistani batsmen.

Another excellent English all-rounder.

So jealous of their abundance of pace-bowling all-rounders.

I'm more worried about their long batting line up. But yeah their bowling is very strong just like their batting and to be honest the only week link would me M Ali.
Pak should target him and score as much as possible from his overs.

Not a quality all rounder. Seen him bat, usually looks like he swings wildly at every ball. Not much technique just blind hitting. As for his bowling, it barely reaches 80mph so will never rip through batsmen.

^ have you ever seen him bowl or you are just commenting because u feel like it? Smh

Read my post. I said I have seen him play. In fact, watched finals day yesterday. Looked like a complete hack with the bat and didnt get up to much with the ball either.

Yes that is the line up is expect. Thing is if stokes can't bowl we definitely get 20 overs of spin to face with that line up ;))

Probably shouldn't be judging people on how they play when they bat and bowl half their overs with a fractured wrist.

His biggest skill is getting swing on pitches where usually no one else does. Has just been signed up by Perth Scorchers again for half the season despite thwir policy of only signing for the full season usually due to his brilliant performances last season.

he will only miss the start of the series (cricinfo)

lol you should hope you are right.
better to end their career here itself rather than making mockery of pakistan loi for another decade.

Hafeez is our best odi batsmen from last 3 years So i wouldn't not want him to fail because it will Minimise our chances to win a match So i don't want him to fail

As for Azhar ali is concerned he should be dropped if he fails again in this series with the bat and also his captaincy is ordinary So last chance for him to redem himself

Lol the only thing I remember Willey for is when he started doing the champion champion dance prematurely during the WT20 final, after the fall of each wicket.

And then he got a huge slap on his face. :)))

David Willey gets injury boost and will join up with England squad for one-day series against Pakistan

David Willey will rejoin England's one-day squad on Thursday for the rest of the Royal London series against Pakistan after a scan showed an injury to his left hand was not as severe as was first feared.

The Yorkshire and England all-rounder had been ruled out on Sunday after suffering the injury during NatWest T20 Finals Day at Edgbaston on Saturday.

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Monday that the scans had shown no fracture, allowing Willey to be part of the group. He will miss the first ODI at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday.

Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball, who had been called up to replace Willey, will remain in the squad.

Stuart Broad will undergo a further scan on Tuesday on his left ankle and has been withdrawn from Nottinghamshire's Specsavers Championship squad for their match against Yorkshire at Scarborough. There will be a further update on his fitness in due course.

but the drama of not playing?

I expected him to be out for the entire series to be honest after watching it. He was sent for scans initially which suggested he would be hence why Ball was called into the squad but further scans showed it was just bad bruising so he'll only miss a couple of games.

Good Limited Overs cricketer tbh. Good hitter and swings the ball with decent control. If England had won the final of the world t20 he would've been one of the reasons why

Doing well against Ireland - 4 wickets so far

Maiden 5fer (5/30) in ODIs for Willey - well done

Both Eoin Morgan and David Willey had every reason to be delighted with the choice of the man-of-the-match award after a contest comfortably won by England by six wickets. It was Willey who received the honour after wrecking the Ireland innings within the first half-hour of the game and finishing with career-best figures of five for 30.

Morgan seemed as thrilled as Willey since he had the tough task just over a year ago of telling the opening bowler that he would not be in his 15-man World Cup squad after four years of stalwart service in the one-day side. “David had a fantastic day out,” said Willey’s captain. “He is such a strong character and he puts his heart and soul into it. Here his skill levels were second to none.”

“That was pretty special,” Willey added. “I didn’t know whether my time had gone. I didn’t feel as if I had a point to prove but the past year has been a rollercoaster. It was bitterly disappointing to be dropped [for the World Cup]. I just wanted to get back to enjoying my cricket. I have had a lot of support from Yorkshire and at home and I’m in love with the game again. I play best when I’m enjoying it and I’ll treasure the award after the 12 months I’ve had.”

The other beneficiary of this game was Sam Billings, so often the first reserve in England’s one-day sides. “He’s been unlucky to miss out in the past,” said Morgan, “but we have been spoilt for batsmen. Here he produced when it was needed.”

Morgan confirmed that Billings would not have played but for Joe Denly picking up a back injury on the eve of the match and Billings spoke for many when he said: “It was absolutely fantastic to get the juices flowing and to be back playing cricket again.”

Hes always been a good LOI bowler and should still be in the england team.

Bowling well again today.

A renewed England spot can't be far off now surely?

England bowler David Willey will retire from international cricket at the end of the World Cup.

His decision comes a week after England announced their new central contracts with Willey the one member of the World Cup squad not to be given a deal.

The 33-year-old has played in England's past three matches in India, taking five wickets and scoring 32 runs.

"I never wanted this day to come. From a young boy I've only dreamed of playing for England," Willey said.

"So, with careful thought and consideration, it is with great regret that I feel the time has come for me to retire from all forms of international cricket at the end of the World Cup."

The left-arm seamer has played 70 one-day internationals and 43 T20s since making his England debut in 2015.

He was a regular in the ODI side before being dropped on the eve of the 2019 World Cup for Jofra Archer, a tournament England went on to win.

"I have worn the shirt with immense pride and given my absolute everything to the badge on my chest," Willey said.

"I've been very lucky to be a part of such an incredible white-ball team with some of the best players in the world.

"I've made some special memories and great friends along the way and been through some very difficult times."

Defending champions England have three games remaining at this year's tournament, starting against Australia on Saturday, but are facing elimination in the group stages after losing five of their six matches.

Willey and Chris Woakes are the only genuine new-ball bowlers in the squad and, while Willey remains available for selection, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse could come in if England opt to look to the future.

Willey's decision will free him to play in various T20 leagues.

"I feel I still have a lot more to give on and off the field while I am still playing my best cricket, and my decision has nothing to do with our performance during the World Cup," he said.

"I'm sure everybody who knows me does not doubt that, whatever my involvement in the remainder of this campaign, I will give my everything and more. That's the only way I know."

England lose the only bowler who looked good. Rob Keys got his chums and pals contracts...cronyism

The guy's a nothing bowler, Curran won England the T20 at least.

And he's a dubious character, leaving Yorkshire amid their scandal as he felt it unjust criticism

David Willey will be missed I am sure by the English faithful, he gives his all in every match and nearly always makes a proper impact. He starts with a maiden.

David Willey, the man who England, to me have treated poorly, has bowled 4 powerplay overs for 11 runs and a wicket

David Willey showed exceptional performance, completing his 4-over quota with a remarkable economy rate, securing 2 crucial wickets while conceding only 28 runs against Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 9. Undoubtedly, he stands as a valuable asset and a potent weapon for Multan Sultans in the tournament.

"David Willey has the best SR of any player in the world in the power play."

Who would have thought

He's such a fine talent. England really didn't do justice to his talent.

ECB didn't treat him well. But I don't know if Willey has improved that much or the batters in PSL are just too bad,

David Willey will miss the start of IPL 2024, where he was due to play for Lucknow Super Giants, due to personal reasons. The English left-arm seamer spent the last two IPL seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore and was due to play for LSG this year after he was signed at his base price of INR 2 crore (£190,000 approx) in December's auction in Dubai.

Justin Langer, LSG's new head coach, revealed that Willey would not be available for the start of the season, after spending the last two months on the road, representing Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Multan Sultans in the ILT20 and the PSL respectively.
