I'd definitely recommend Dexter. The actors have a lot of rough edges in the first season, but their acting improves tremendously after a while.

You have no idea how awesome it is yet. Good on you to watch the show. It's absolutely brilliant. Michael C Hall is a tremendous actor! He portrays some of the most complex emotions on TV really well.

can't believe Michael C Hall married his co star who plays his sister though..

Dexter is a brilliant show.

Dexter is my current, favorite TV show. Love it to bits.

The finale was twisted. I didn't expect so much to happen in the last two minutes.

!!SPOILERS!!

Can't say I'll miss Rita though.

The fun is doubled when you watch the episodes without interruption... way to go RumiNYC. :D
Waiting a week in between episodes was a pain and now we have to wait till Sep next year for the 5th season :(..........but what fun it will be. I can't wait to see what direction the new season takes.

'Six Feet Under' with Michael Hall was also a great series. Highly recommended.

So you finished Season 1 already? That's my fav season...the suspense involving the ice truck killer was awesome.

Isn't it gruesome/bloody?

I wanted to watch it,

but I do not like blood/weapons.

A lot of the violence is implied as the camera pans away from the kill shots etc. However, as Dexter is a blood splatter analyst and a serial killer, there is a lot of fake blood splattering about.

i cant explain it but i feel that the way dex thinks he'll be out for blood, not me , i wasnt sad , i for one am happy , atleast there wont be anymore nagging

The storyline could go anywhere at all from here. Dexter's blood lust might increase, or he might really suffer under scrutiny from the cops as he's likely to be the prime suspect. Dexter's interaction with both Deb and Quinn will be quite interesting to watch. There's speculation that Trinity may also turn up in the same way Harry does.

I agree with you 100%, Rita's character used to drive me insane.

By the way, the tv show has moved in a completely different direction to the books by Jeff Lindsay. Quite frankly IMO this is one of those rare instances where the show is much better than the author's version.

Dexter finale?

Season Five Finale
*Spoilers ahead*

This season was such a let down for me. Didn't care much for the Lumen character and then all of a sudden she just leaves?

The story arc has not moved any further. It felt like filler material. I would have preferred Deb finding out who Dexter really was.

I liked this season a lot, it didn't really move the narrative further but we got a huge look inside Dexter and his struggles. Pretty big season for him, actually.

Lumens character was fine by me, but she shouldn't have left. These guys always kill off guest stars, I wanted to see where their relationship was going but whatever.

Yeah, I wanted Deb to know about Dexter too, would've been very climatic but I guess thats a storyline saved for the future?

Man I just finished Dexter Season One, God first few episodes were hard to see, pretty gruesome start, but kind of toned down in later episodes, or don't know I got used to it.

I honestly didn't care for the Lumen-Dex partnership. Ok fine I got used to it but the story line seemed contrived. Jordan Chase was one of the most one dimensional villains I have seen in this series. Does not hold a candle to the Ice Truck Killer or Trinity.

And what the hell did they do about investigating Kyle Butler? I mean they had something interesting going on there but it went no where. So ok we find one thing that Dexter feels he can never be with anyone else and no one will accept him for who he is.

Other than this, where did the story go? It's pretty much the same as it was at the end of season 4. Quinn and Deb came close to finding out about the reality of Dexter, but obviously this did not pan out this season. I can only come to the conclusion that the writers are trying to milk this as much as possible knowing that this is Showtime's golden goose!

Season One is the best. It really gets you hooked after that!

I wouldn't say this season has been a dud overall, some really good episodes where the suspense just killed me.

At the same time though, I see what you're getting at. Hopefully the show doesn't get dragged on forever. There really aren't many ways it can end for Dexter-- and he can't keep it up forever. I was hoping Deb would've found out what he is or had her suspicions, but oh well.

They've renewed for Season 6 and I believe there's a Season 7 for sure. I just hope that it doesn't go on too much longer than that, otherwise it'll get stale.

It pained me to watch the last season of 24 :(

Yes the suspense was there but let's say this season had more potential and it could have been better. I think Season 7 would be the last though. As you said, no point in stretching it further. I mean what else can happen..right?

I have not watched a single episode of 24. Do you highly recommend it? I would like to recommend Breaking Bad if you have not seen it. Tight writing, good suspense. Check it out for sure. :)

24 is one of my favourite shows, you'll love it. Latter seasons like 7-8 start to feel redundant BUT 24 wasn't one of the most talked about shows on Fox for no reason.

And yes, currently I'm watching The Walking Dead but will [finally] start watching Breaking Bad after thats done. I hear season 3 went of on a hell of a cliffhanger.

*Spoilers ahead*

This season was such a let down for me. Didn't care much for the Lumen character and then all of a sudden she just leaves?

Is that the English bird in season two?

Blimey, season four finished on FX weeks ago.

Oh my Robert, are you guys only on season two over there? Or did you just confused about the character?

Robert, we are talking about season five. The season two bird was nice though. :p
Lila...

Hmm I will check out 24 for sure. If you like Michael C Hall, then also watch Six Feet Under. It's good.

Eh it wasn't really a letdown for me, See Dexter has mostly ended its seasons without cliffhangers which i think is great. But yeah, This whole thing about dexter needing to connect with people has been done to death now which you can argue is what the whole series is about basically.

Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter have filed for divorce. Ohhh la la...
Both met on the Dexter show, were married for two years and now this.

I guess Jennifer got too comfortable playing Dexter's sister on the show. :yk

I found that to be so uncomfortable. They're brother and sister!

Now I still hate them because when I see Deb, I'll see a woman who divorced her husband after his battle with cancer

Oh my Robert, are you guys only on season two over there? Or did you just confused about the character?

FX just finished season four.

Yes, I forgot that the deathly pale English bird was named Lila.

Six Feet Under
is tops BTW.

This Season was a big let down for me! last season was one of the best! and this one was the worst! it was all so easy for dex this season!

I see Robert, still behind since we just finished 5 :p. Season 4 I think had the best finale ever.

Btw guys I highly recommend The Walking Dead. And Tdigi I've just started watching Breaking Bad, this show is amazing! Season one feels short but I might just go out and buy the boxset of season 2 and 3. Looks very promising so far.

^ That's great. I say go ahead and buy the box set of BB if you want to. It gets better :)
The best part is that you can go for a marathon viewing if time permits. I hate waiting every week for a new episode of any current show. :p

I will check out Walking Dead but I am not a fan of Zombies and Vampires. For the same reason, I have not watched True Blood yet.

Walking Dead is a lot more then just zombies, some gripping drama in that bad boy.

And haha yeah thats basically what I'm doing now, except all the links for BB are Megavideo links, which has a 72 minute viewing cap at which point it locks you out :(.

Lumen is easily the least interesting and probably the worst main character on the show so far. Don't get me wrong..she was decent, but the others have been excellent. Even Jordan Chase guy, Trinity, Lila etc. Good they let her go, and I hope Season 6 will improve this series somewhat. I don't think they should have ever killed Rita.

Also Walking Dead I'm finding mediocre. I've been a zombie fan since birth, played and finished the classic Resident Evils when I was 10, and watched nearly all zombie movies worth watching. Though for some reason I can't connect with any of the characters in the show, though the zombies are awesome at least.

Thanks tdigi, the avi files didn't work on my mac BUT I'm almost done season 3 :) and no more pesky megavideo links.

This show is amazing. The first two seasons were pretty tame compared to the stuff they've done so far in season 3, just plain bad ass.

I'm liking Gus so far -- hoping he's still there by the end of the season, no spoilers please!

Didn't mind this season of Dexter. Wasn't expecting Lumen to leave, so it's obviously keeping me guessing. Not sure how the writers plan to keep it interesting. The show is not following the author's vision, which is actually a good thing as the novels are tripe. Some of the major differences between the book and tv series:

1) Rita is still alive.
2) Ice Truck killer (Dexter's brother) is still alive.
3) Doakes is still alive.
4) Deb knows about Dexter's dark passenger.
5) Dex and Rita have a little girl not a boy.
etc etc etc

Agree with tdigi, Breaking Bad is awesome. Once I started watching it, I couldn't stop and went through all 3 seasons in no time at all and craving more - cmon July 2011 :) Walking Dead is not too bad. A bit of a slow starter but still a lot of fun.

@ Dex "clearing" Quinn...nevermind the prints/phone calls

smh2.gif

@ Deb not noticing the upside down car or Jordan's car and calling for back-up

smh2.gif

@ Lumen just being another one-season character (maybe, admittedly...)

smh2.gif

@ Quinn not caring that Dexter probably killed Liddy

@ EVERYTHING that happened...

After finishing Breaking Bad I can honestly say, who cares about Dexter? :)

Seriously, this has got to be the best TV show I've watched since the pilot of Lost.

Anyone here recommend Mad Men?

@ LowKey - Mad Men is also good. I have not watched it myself but it is highly rated.
Glad you and Nazim loved Breaking Bad. :)

@BMW Power
Yeah so many loop holes. The funniest I thought was how quick LaGuerta spotted blood on Quinn's shoes.

Any way, I am looking forward to the next season. It can't get worse than season five.

Surprised no ones mentioned the relationship between Batista and Laguerta. I thought it was one of the most boring parts of this season, which sucks, because Batista is one funny guy usually.

As far as future seasons go, they need to end the show soon and on a high note. How much longer can he go on killing before it catches up to him?

^ Agree. Batista and LaGuerta plot went no where. Also initially I thought that the nanny was going to turn evil and end up kidnapping Harrison. She was way too nice.
I bet Showtime will milk it for two more seasons. I want Dexter to get caught..that would be great!

Ha, I liked the nanny - her accent was awesome. They could've took that somewhere though, maybe have her report Dexter to child services or something.

Wish they went somewhere with the murders they were investigating too, that was actually pretty interesting. Though LaQuerta's decision at the club was silly.

Yes, there were too many irregularities in this season and that was the main problem for me. At times I was laughing in amusement rather than getting involved in the suspense. I think I got used to the good writing in previous seasons. I read the one of the main writers left the show after season 4, so don't know if that has affected the script.

You are right about the Santa Muerte murderers. That could have been made more interesting. Any way I am done nit picking for now. Let's hope the next season rocks!

if I was to rank the 5 seasons, it would like this.

1. 4 - The ending alone made that whole season the best, plus Trinity was solid. "shut up, ****" lol
2. 1 - Again the ending here was good but the build up to it was amazing, ice-truck killer really good
3. 2 - Doakes being tamed in a cage then blowing up, Dex almost getting caught
4. 3 - Wasn't a fan of Dex getting a "friend", he's a lone wolf
5. 5 - Again, there should be friend. Also was let down, was expecting big season after the finale of 4

Dexter hasn't had a cliffhanger anywhere, but Debra finding out and them ending it right there would've be intense.

Here is a potential storyline...I'd like them to use.
-Rita got married for the first time when she was 16 (fact)
storyline
- She had a son from her first marriage that the father took away
- He comes back and tells Dexter this and lives with his other siblings with Dexter
- He is blaming Dex (only the sin knows this, otherwise he lives a normal life)
- He goes on a killing spree taking out Miami Metro Homicide staff, one by one, cleanly
- Everyone killed off, Dexter kills him as the other kids are shocked byt what they see
- Dex realizing what they've seen, offs himself...
- Dexter ends

What other stories could you guys come up with?

So, I guess I should watch "breaking bad" -- been struggling to find something decent since Lost ended, which is probably the best bit of TV I've ever seen...

Also, watchign "Fringe" which is quite good.

Oh I <3 Fringe. Fringe is my Lost replacement.. Breaking Bad is easily my favourite show at the moment. Definitely check it out!

I also like Entourage.

Just finished Season 4. Started watching Dexter 2-3 weeks ago. So pissed because I download all the seasons on torrents instead of streaming each episode one by one. On PirateBay, I always check the comments to see the audio and video qualities.

I started downloading season 4 last week.
This particular poster for the torrent decided to post episode summaries for each episode.

I scroll down, and the first thing I read?

"After Rita's death....."

I was like ***. There goes the shock.

Just finished all 5 seasons of Dexter in about 10 days. Show really hooks you in.

Season 4 with the Trinity killer was really freaky.

I've actually liked all 5 seasons, maybe it's because I've seen them all back-to-back. Yes there are holes in the plot but come on, I mean we're talking about a forensics expert who also happens to be a serial killer. If you can believe that then there is no plot hole too big to notice.

Just finished the last episode of Dexter. Started about 3 weeks ago. This show goes up there with LOST as all time favorites.

only just that LOST had the worst ending ever imaginable!

They need to conclude Dexter soon as well. Its pointless stretching it like bubblegum.

Lost had a pretty good ending imo, I was pretty satisfied with it. What would you have done?

It was good. I checked it out yesterday, I like the feel of this season thus far.

Pretty awesome episode.

They touched on religion in little bits up to now but it looks like this season will be focused around that subject.

It'll be pretty interesting since I think they're going to try and compare Dexter's rules to the rules of religion.

Season is starting to pick up.

Highlight below for spoilers.

These have to be the worst killers ever. He just shows up at the crime scene?

Anyone been following the show lately? It's not turned out as well as I'd hoped after starting off with a bang with the whole snakes and four horsemen thing.

Don't know if this should be considered a spoiler, but I'm kinda disappointed that Gellar is probably not a real person.

Hmm, I think there has been quite a drop in quality since series 1 and 2. It used to be really tense but the credibility is strained now.... Debra is supposedly an ace detective and she still hasn't figured her brother out? Come on!

I've been keeping up. The episode before the last one (where he visited Jonah) was horrible.

Hmm, I think there has been quite a drop in quality since series 1 and 2. It used to be really tense but the credibility is strained now.... Debra is supposedly an ace detective and she still hasn't figured her brother out? Come on!

That is not a coincidence. Some of the main writers left after season 2, and some others left after 4. One of them left to write for Twilight . And please don't say bad things about Deb. She might start crying, seeing how she's gone from tougher than nails supercop to whiny little schoolgirl.

And yes Gotham Cronie - the Jonah episode seemed completely forced, to try and incorporate the whole battle between Brother Sam and Brother Brian. Brother Sam was another character they completely ****ed up. There was so much potential there. They put all their eggs in the Colin Hanks basket, and he has been completely unable to carry that burden.

I kind of saw that twist coming. If they don't address the major plot holes that it caused, I'll be disappointed.

I used to love this show a lot. Seasons 1-3&5 were top-notch and extremely addictive imo however, this current season (6) is a disappointment. I haven't enjoyed a single episode yet. I guess I'm converting to Breaking Bad fan now after this shambles of a season.

Have avoided all posts from September 2011 onwards as I have just started Season 6 now. Only started watching Dexter at the start of this month and I finished Season 5 last night, think it is a brilliant show overall. Can't believe it took me years before I started watching it again

This season has been really poor, the arch-villain has absolutely no guile or genius about him.
