What's new

England (155/7) beat Pakistan (154/6) by 3 wickets & win the T20 series 2-1

A few runs short in the end Pakistan. Also, Rizwan's innings were good despite everyone having a go at him after the first inning.

England always had the runs under control. Mediocre teams always end up on the losing end nevermind the margin. Yet again, Pakistan has gone on a tour and ended up winning hearts rather than the series.

If Sharjeel had batted, Pakistan would have scored more runs and win this match and series :)

Pakistani spinners didn't do much damage. Jason Roy's knock and sweeps were the difference

Congrats England & well played Pakistan. Especially considering we were playing with only 10 players [Thanks Misbah for that!]

Tbh taking wickets toward the end was pointless as England had a deep batting lineup. Bowling lost it in the first 7 overs.

We were 10 runs short. Should have sent Hasan ahead of Shadab and Imad while batting. Those 7 balls could have brought 15 instead of 5.

Giving away 16 runs in the Shaheen’s first over changed the momentum. Hard luck Pakistan!

Dont care what the anti pak brigade say here...but Pakistan were immense!
An absolute joy!

Well played by Pak bowlers and Rizwan in batting. Also why select Hasnain if you had so many bowling options that he did not need to bowl.

I don't think we were too short of runs. We were just not good enough in our bowling.

Qadir going for plenty when pitch was turning miles. He kept on bowling fast short pitches on leg stump. Feeding Roy to go after him which he did.

Hasan dropping catch of Morgan and changing bowling side on the last ball and getting hit for a six. Each and every ball counts.

Despite all of the above, we were still in the match due to England's horrendous batting. It was Livingstone's six that turned the tables finally for England.

We need series wins not these close loses. We have had enough.

Every time you think we couldn't lack any more intelligence, this thick, dumb and inept management continues to astound with their stupidity.

- Why play an extra bowler when one of them doesn't bowl a single ball and when your middle order is made of glass ?

- Why can't our supposed leading pacer, who's not a kid anymore and has played bucketloads of T20s, understand he keeps bowling length in the PP and he'll keep getting smashed ? Every seamer had joy cutting their pace but he couldn't figure it out, and gets smashed for 16 from his only over when we had a below par score.

- Why give your leggie his first game of the tour in a decider ? He should've played at Headingley on a dry pitch and allowed to bowl himself into some rhythm.

- Why is Sohaib Maqsood such a lazy and inept excuse of an international sportsman ? Liability as a batsman and fielder. Symbolises everything bad about our cricket today.

- Why is our captain unable to deliver in pressure situations ?
- Why did he bowl first in the last match ? Can't we ever read the conditions and adjust accordingly ?

Another match and series bottled at Old Trafford second year in a row, and a preview of the T20 World Cup. Please West Indies roll out bouncy pitches and batter this sorry lot.

Very good match Pakistan was few runs short. Shaheen and qadir gave too many runs in first over

Babar Azam: We were 10-15 runs short. We wanted to fight and we did. Unfortunately, we couldn't win. We could have scored few runs more at the top of the order. We played a few bad shots. We generally play the spinners well. There will be good days and bad days. The support here will be missed. West indies will have different conditions. We will sit down and have a chat about it. We use Hafeez according to situations and he is in the scheme for the WC.

Even thou we lost the series it was a good game of cricket and Pakistan showed fight

Good fight today. Not every team has England batting depth at their disposal. Series loss but today was a good match.

Need to get batting order right . Hassan ali above Imad and Shadab. Middle order is just too weak tho.

I don’t think England played their A game but still managed to win. Butler and Malan almost cost them the match with their what-was-that batting but Pak threw it away with their biteless bowling

Dont believe we were short of runs, on this wicket this was a good fighting total. Our spinners were clueless against Roys sweeps. Shaheen conceeding 16 of his first over and Hasan conceeding 2 sixes against Morgan and Morgan's release shots against Hafeez on the off side when the ball was turning.

These fine things are the difference b/w winning and losing

The middle order repeatedly lets us down. The start is often an average to good one until the middle order messes it up completely. Sohaib doesn't do a thing other then a boundary or two before being caught out. Hafeez, Fakhar and Imad have been equally disappointing. As always I have to bemoan the lack of quality batters in the middle.

I was there at the match and i think lots of blunders were made. Absolutely great game of cricket no doubt...but surely hafeez could have opened tje bowling ..qadir shud have bowled bwtter too..our batting needs a big rethink.
Last two overs were awful

Just when he had run out of rope, Hafeez hangs into the mix by virtue if his bowling.

The WC being in UAE and Maqsood & Co. being a complete liability would likely keep Malik interested. WI series will probably be the last chance. Problem is WI can also have brain fades and bowl into his areas.

So far he has shown little to no semblance of batsmanship and only embarrassed people who lobbied for his recall after his ~2015 outing.

It was a good game to watch.Pakistan we’re short of 15-20 runs.England got to a good start which made it easier for them. The key to beat England is to get both Roy and Butler out early.Of course it is easier said then done.

154 is not enough .. It became a close game only because of some brainless batting by England ... and they got over the line because of the depth in their batting..

Broad: "We gonna win the World Cup"..you having a laugh arent you?

I'll see your team chase on low and slow pitches against India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh!

All these times are going with 3 spinners and bringing the cup home...the sub continent!

Hasan Ali’s brainless over was the difference between the two sides tonight. With 41 off 24 needed on this wicket, England would have folded against any half decent side. Lo and behold Hasan proceeds to bowl two leg stump half volleys to Morgan, who was set up for that exact shot out of desperation.

Speaks volumes of our cricketing awareness. Our players dont lack talent, they are just probably the dumbest in the cricketing world.

Pakistan quickly and rightly realized spinners are the key in this pitch but they did not have enough good spinners ... so Hasan Ali was the right choice among the pacers but his inconsistency struck at the wrong time ..

1) why on earth do we keep picking people like Sohaib Maqsood? Even in the PSL he didn't play like a proper batsman, he got lucky. Are people like Maqsood, Asif Ali and Ifthikar Ahmed the best 'hitters' Pakistan have got?

Even England non starters like Vince and Hales would murder these useless bums.

2) What has happened to our fast bowling these last 2-3 years? Pakistan has always been known for producing fast, aggressive fast bowlers, what the hell is going on? They bowl length balls each time and CANNOT execute yorkers AT ALL!

3) Other than Babar and Rizwan, what do the other batsmen offer? Without Babar and Rizwan, out XI would lose to each and every English County team!

4) PCB needs to start investing in quality pitches. Make pitches that assist bowlers and batsman and so you can groom these youngsters for international cricket. People like Haider Ali are like cats in front of headlights when they face pressure.

5) I
I can write another 15 points, but I'm tired of the same old sh*t and Pakistan cricket are not worth it right now, starting to lose interest in this team. Seriously.

England edged a nail-biting T20I decider at Old Trafford on Tuesday to complete a comeback and win the series against Pakistan 2-1.

England had squared the series with victory at Headingley on Sunday, setting up a winner-takes-all encounter in Manchester in the final match of Pakistan’s limited-overs tour.

And Eoin Morgan had his spinners and opening batter Jason Roy to thank for the win, with Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali the pick of the bowlers on the night and Roy smashing a match-defining 64 to set up the run chase.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first on the spin-friendly Old Trafford wicket. But the arrival of England’s spinners into the attack put the skids under a solid start from the tourists.

Rashid removed captain Babar Azam for 11 with only his second ball, leaving Pakistan 42/1 in the final over of the powerplay. And the leg-spinner picked up two more wickets in his second over, taking the scalps of both Sohaib Maqsood (13) and Mohammad Hafeez (1).

The 33-year-old finished with career-best T20I figures of 4/35 from his four overs, but was arguably out-bowled by the near-flawless Moeen, who conceded just 19 runs in his four overs, with Pakistan failing to hit the 34-year-old off-spinner for a single boundary.

All-rounder Liam Livingstone, picked at number seven on the night, chipped in with three further overs as England bowled 11 overs of spin, equalling the most spin deliveries bowled by England in a T20I, and illustrating the slow and spinning nature of the pitch.

In the end, it was Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan who did the legwork in a competitive score of 154/6 from the 20 overs, with Rizwan finishing on an unbeaten 76 from 57 balls.

England looked to be strolling to victory as Roy got the home side ahead of the rate with a blistering 36-ball 64.

But a scratchy 21 from 22 balls by fellow opener Jos Buttler was a sign of things to come in the England reply, with Jonny Bairstow struggling to five from eight deliveries and Dawid Malan hobbling his way to 31 off 33.

With the pressure on England to up the rate, Moeen attempted a big heave off only the third ball he faced, making no contact as Mohammad Hafeez cleaned him up.

But captain Morgan, following the same approach, found a bit of timely form, smashing two sixes in a quick-fire 21 to put England on the brink of victory.

England still required 12 to win off eight balls when a devastated Malan was bowled by Hafeez. But a first-ball six from Livingstone removed much of the remaining pressure and Chris Jordan finished the job, scampering through for a second run to seal the win with two balls of the final over remaining.

The series victory ensures England remain at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, while Pakistan stay fourth.

Speaking after the series win, the England captain said the side will have taken an awful lot from eking out a win on a surface so poorly suited to his team’s preferred style of play.

“It means a huge amount, this is the worst wicket for our gameplan so we will learn a huge amount from that,” Morgan said.

“I don't think the ball will spin like that in the UAE (at the World Cup later this year), it didn't spin like that in the IPL, but unnatural as it is to play like that for Jos Buttler, the partnership with Roy set up the chase.

“Guys have achieved when they came in and played, so we have plenty of options when it comes to selection. We have 17 or 18 vying for 15 places.”

Why did Shaheen bowl just the one over? Was he injured?

Ouch, thats like Bumrah being given just an over cos he was expensive and its a spinners track. If anyone in the Pak lineup can conjure magic with the ball, its Shaheen, should have been given atleast another to test the waters

Stop overhyping him comparing to Bumrah. Bumrah is class above and world class bowler even when batsmen want to attack him he just doesn't give them enough room. Shaheen is an overhyped Pakistan's best fast bowler but no where near world class like Bumrah so the moment batsmen take charge on him he is exposed. He has no intelligence whatsoever as a bowler. Like yesterday Hasan schooled him how to bowl when Shaheen got hit for plenty. Taking pace off the ball. Shaheen was blindly bowling pace without any plan or line and length. Just like Rauf he is a bowling machine without any brains.

What did bumrah do in the 2019 world cup ?
Shaheen is class espically with the new ball one bad over in the series and he's overhyped.
Shaheen is 21 and bumrah is 27.

I proberly would have given one over to shaheen at the end

*Sigh* another day, another loss, its exasparating following this pakistan team, they had squandered a great chance to win this T20 series.
