England [294 & 329] beat Australia [225 & 263] by 135 runs in the 5th Ashes Test to draw series 2-2

A shame to see Denly miss out on a well-deserved hundred. Nonetheless, a great effort. Hopefully Archer will complete Australia’s humiliation with another 5-for.

England well on their way for a moral victory.

They failed to retain the urn, hence, have to satisfy with a series draw at home.

England have found a solid no.6 in form of Buttler, who will win them more games than lose. Most importantly, he will be an X-factor for England, as he will take games completely away from opposition's reach.

The humiliation has already been inflicted... By Australia retaining the Ashes.

England better not botch this up. Great opportunity for them to set a target of 400+ and finish Aussies.

Time to drop Bairstow and give gloves to Foakes.

Burns
Denly
Pope
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Foakes(wkt)
Curran
Archer
Broad
Leach/Anderson

That's my 12 man squad. With this team, England may have some chance for test championship.

Crowd roaring Leach on, booing every Aussie who stops his shots.

England should swing the bat for half an hour tomorrow and then declare with a target of 420. That should be good enough.

Paine’s fear of misusing the review like he did in 3rd test match has led him to not use any even when it was needed and now they might go back to the dressing room with full 2 reviews back when they could have used them to change the outlook of the match to an extent.

This bloke has no shame. How is it an australian humilation? It is infact condolence for Eng who lost to win back Ashes at home

Good to see you come out. Try harder to please yourself you had to wait a long time. And yes big humiliation for Australia for retaining the Ashes but no humiliation for your England team for not winning the Ashes back on home soil. No one going to remember if series is drawn all matters is retaining the Ashes which Australia have done away.

Win win all round, Australia keep the ashes and England think they are better.

I don’t think any serious and honest England fan believes that England has a better Test side than Australia at the moment. England fans are mostly aware of our current Test side being an average bunch, with one world class all-rounder in Stokes and a very promising bowler in Archer.

Good to see honesty but someone like Mamoon just because he claims one team to win if they don't he comes up with random excuses and theories.

A drawn series would be a fair result as neither side is better than the other. Few individuals have got both sides a across the line

England should win this comfortably.

Final scoreline is going to flatter England, Aus wont be too happy about not finishing the English off but they do retain the Ashes so whatever.

all poms need to worship Tim Paine and thank him for letting them draw the series by choosing to field. Bow down and wash his feet. He felt sorry for the brits and dint want to humiliate them any further by winning the series 3 to 1.

archer would be good in Australia imo.

England batsman Joe Denly rued falling short of a century, but hoped his 94 on day three of the fifth Ashes Tests helps make a lasting impression on the selectors.

Denly had an ordinary start to the Ashes, but his 94 on Saturday, 14 September, was his third fifty in five innings.

Denly acknowledged that he would've liked to score the additional six runs to get his maiden Test hundred, but was happy nonetheless to have contributed to England's dominant position – they are leading by 382 runs, with two wickets still in hand, and in with a strong chance to draw the series.

"It would have been nice to get to that milestone today, having worked so hard, but England are in a good position. Hopefully, I have impressed the selectors," he said.

“Whenever you open the batting, there is expectation to score runs and do well. It’s been frustrating to get starts and not be able to capitalise. I felt very good today. It's a very good bowling attack we're coming up against. This Australian attack is certainly up there and make you work hard for every run.”

With the knock, Denly has also shown his ability to adapt to the challenge of opening the batting, a position he isn't accustomed to. The 32-year-old said he was happy to fullfil any role in the batting order.

"Wherever Rooty [Joe Root, the England captain] asks me to bat, I don't think I'm in a position to demand where I want to bat. To be playing for England is a privilege, certainly at my age. I didn't think I'll be here a couple of years ago, so to get the opportunity is very special. And if that opportunity [to open] presents itself again in the future, then I'd be happy to do it.

Mamoon isn’t English.
He is the man who doesn't support his country,I know Pakistan is not that good but atleast you should support in their highs and lows or otherwise you must stop following their cricket.

archer would be good in Australia imo.

Looking forward to seeing that.

He has a chance of becoming the highest wicket taker in the series today - even if he doesn’t, he is second to Cummins in the league table for the series, is averaging less than him (17 to Cummins’ 19), strike rate is 38 to Cummins’ 44, and he has played one less Test than Cummins in the series!

Not a bad performance to be giving the number one ranked bowler in the world a genuine run for his money.

Jofra archer , IMO , is the best fast bowler around. Its only matter of time before he overtakes cummins in the rankings table.

As Amir will attest one good season in England is not a sure pointer for things to come. Archer has had a great series so why the hype.

Marcus Harris plays down the wrong line and his off-stump goes cartwheeling. Brilliant from Broad.

Broad vs Warner is getting boring now. Thankfully the latter’s misery has ended.

Hopefully Law of Averages will finally catch up with Smith.

Aussies openers have been worse than tailenders in this series. Pathetic stuff.

Now that Warner is out, and with England finally starting to get a handle on how to bowl to Labuschagne, the game essentially rests on Steve Smith’s shoulders.

Take out Smith, and Australia have minnow level batting.

To be fair, England have minnow level batting unless Root or Stokes gets a score, and they are both far less consistent than Smith.

The 2 last hopes for Australia at the crease

The Aussie openers have had a terrible series between them.

Burns has had a good one.

Saffer Import gone, beautiful linkup between Leach and Bairstow to trap him.

2 bang average test teams with a few good individuals, and a great one in smith

It appears that Moeen will be sidelined for the long haul, and rightly so in my opinion.

Not surprisingly can't agree with your tripe again, once moin finds his form back he will be back in the side, his batting alone is as good as buttler, bairstow, and far better than rest of the tail, and has almost 150 test wickets so please less of your bitter trolling on moin and concentrate on being a corridor creap

So, it's gonna end up 2-2. Congo England, the home record is still safe.

Now Mamoon will do like Saurav Ganguly did in 2002

This is a poor Australian team that England should be beating at home, but 2-2 is still much better than losing 2-1 or 3-1, especially when England were without Anderson and Australia had their full-strength team.

Nonetheless, a World Cup win and a drawn Test series is a fantastic season - this has been one, memorable English summer.

With a bit of tweaking, in my opinion, England are well-placed to play India in the World Test Championship Final in two years time, especially when you consider that South Africa are in transition.

Regardless of how he fares in this innings, Woakes has had a poor series. He has been impact-less with the bat and has made no contributions with the bat.

A fit Anderson in his stead along with Archer and Broad would have won England the series, so they can count themselves unlucky.

I guess World Cup + Ashes in one summer would have been too good to be true.

Jimmy is on his last legs so you can't expect him to be regular.
Enjoy your moment have a nice day.

He is still brilliant at home. There is no doubt that he would have outperformed Woakes by a long margin.

This was a golden chance for Australia to finally win in England after 18 years.

England’s best batsman in poor form? Check

England’s batting in disarray? Check

England’s premier bowler injured? Check

Australia’s best batsman in the form of his life? Check

Australia’s bowlers fit and firing? Check

And yet, they have only managed to ‘retain’ the Ashes. It is a massive missed opportunity.

Australia's captain, Tim Paine, costed them a series win in England.

It's about the ashes in this contest, root will be heartbroken that hes the first England captain since 2001 who hasn't regained the ashes at home

Since Vaughan in 2005 in fact. Before him, Gower in 1985.

Timing plays a significant role in human emotions.

If England were 2-1 up and would have lost this Test to tie the series, Root and the other players would have have been heartbroken.

Now that they came into this match 2-1 down, they would be quite relieved and perhaps even proud to have saved themselves from a series defeat.

Similarly, had Australian won this match to retain the Ashes, they would have been delighted. I am sure they are still very happy, but they would also be disappointed because they failed to win the series after going into the final Test with a 2-1 lead.

Aussies can still win this. They need around 230 more with 5 wickets in hand.

Game is not done yet.
