England (321/8) defeat India (316/9) by 5 runs to win the 3rd ODI

Ok if that's how he plays then he can be successful on flat subcontinent pitches but might be susceptible of edging it to the slips/keeper on bouncy pitches however there are very few of those remaining in modern day LOIs.

But well done to the guy, I always like people who come through the ranks by sheer hard-work and determination.

This was a relatively bouncy track with ball doing quite a bit at times. Our pacers didn't use this track well but English pacers performed much better (dunno about stats but watching the game live).

Some of the balls shot up like crazy.

That's what makes his batting so interesting and unexplainable.

Good effort by Jadhav , hopefully he'll learn from this experience.

But with that being said, yes, it remains to be seen how he does overseas.

What a botch they had the game won after the huge partnership down the order

That is true but I don't remember the last time Dhoni brought us this close from 175-5,it was a good effort for him but he needs to learn, did it in couple of overs before as well.
MMHS Jhadav did the 90(75) Dhoniesque knock but sadly couldn't close it.

I almost made it inch perfect 91* (85) - sirf that astricks ka farak rahe gyaya, that's why, there is only one MSD.

For most spectators, this was a great series - 350/356; 381/366; 321/315 - but, is this cricket? Is this really good for watching the game? Some of the shots bought glory to batsmen would have hurt me even at nets, if I were a bowler. This is simply slavery of middle age - you are born to be beaten - here bowlers should be happy that they are at least equally paid.

How many here will take the identical results for a match score of 250/256; 281/266; 221/215.

I'll definitely take the alternative.

Likewise. ODI cricket these days has reached rock bottom.

This was a tricky wicket and no where a 300 wicket...the par score should be around 275 but the batsman of this genre are something else....

300 / 280 is a perfect ODI wicket for me....good to watch and bowlers with skills can do well also..

Agreed.

Entertaining series but this ain't cricket.

Maybe not the first two matches, but today was a great ODI pitch. Plenty of lateral movement and good bounce, since the pitch at Eden has been re-laid and Dada's obsession about providing "sporting wickets" with something for everyone :srini

Yet, the outfield and true nature of the pitch allow good stroke play and value for shots

Tricky wicket when facing some balls.

Other balls were getting thrashed by both sides.

Probably a wicket that deceives to be super tough but is not that tough barring a few balls here and there. Some balls surely did move around though.

Its hard to judge whether modern wickets have gone super flat or batsmen have gone super awesome.

Such wickets in the past (lateral movement, bounce) would not have seen 330 scored let alone almost chased.

Honestly confused on what's the real truth.

Agree. Probably both - two of Pandya's mishits (in the reverse direction!) almost carried for six which tells you about the bats too.

I can categorically say that, I had been at Eden more than many Indian's here. This was a fantastic wicket no doubt, but people miss the key time & again - during reconstruction, they have shortened the boundary, now has pulled the rope even closer.

Every game changes, because with technology the gears improve - administrators adjust the playing condition to maintain level playing field. Two very similar game to cricket are golf & baseball - with titanium clubs & optic fibre ball, the driving range has gone to 350 metres - that's par 5 of 1930s US Masters. So, they have adjusted the course with time - now 5000 metre Augusta Masters is 7000+ metres course - best players still are winning by 1/2 shots ...... 3 under per. Similarly, 100 years back, they used to bash with cane made clubs - so, it took Babe Rooth to clear around 100 metres to hit a home run - now, it takes Donaldson to clears 134 metre as Rogers' Centre - because he uses a fibre strengthen club. More or less - bowling & pitching stats are same overs 100 years in MLB.

Cricket's bat has improved, protective gears have improved, light & visibility has improved, out field has gathered pace ............... then they have shortened the boundary. It's like punishing the poor girl for adultery, who is already .....

What would someone like Jaddu average in 90s?

He was phenomenal in this pitch and the whole series imho.

Averages 40 in this series but that's the most misleading stat ever.

That's separate discussion - I won't disclose, people will get upset.

Jaddu will definitely do as good as now, if he doesn't face someone better equipped to face spin than Mongia, Moin & Kalu ...........

Fair enough.

But I feel there were a lot of spin duds in 90s that Jaddu could have exploited. Or bats who were slow enough who could have been pressured into giving wickets.

I think when the pitches aid more, a spinner's ability to take wicket increases even if the quality of batsmen increase.

When the track goes flat, the spinner's ability decreases even if spin playing quality of bats go down the drain.

Case in point, the thrashing spinners receive from hacks on flatties.

Mate the ball was doing a lot early on ,and 65 in 7 with 5 wickets remaining and 2 almost new guys playing, surely that is not a joke except for last 4 balls its a very good effort.

I have made peace with the loss, the series was a very good one with a lot of positives for us.
