He doesn't help himself saying judge me on bowling. Bairstow has been just as bad. And Rashid cast aside for red ball. Meh.

As I told Boi recently, Moeen Ali did not warrant a place in the squad, let alone the XI.

Moeen is always the easy scapegoat. Unfair to drop him after just the one game considering his record in last 12 months.

He was England's worst player in the WC, last Ashes series and in this match. He's just not cut for the big stage, so stop trying to make excuses.

Maybe but his batting his non existent nowadays and leach is better on bowling form I suppose.

lol at the comments above. Moeen deserved to get dropped. He's been in dismal form and it doesn't help that he's Lyon's bunny.

Leach in is the right call. Moeen was handled with ease by the Aussies.

Moeen has been dismissed 10 times in 12 innings by Lyon.

He’s a walking duck and a total dud with the ball.

Moeen is the most prolific test wicket taker in the world over the last twelve months with 48 wickets at 25 each.

But as his batting confidence has gone and his bowling confidence has gone too.

The SLAs have sorted Smudger out a time or two and so Leach is a good call.

I don’t know what Bairstow has got to do to get dropped.....

Bairstow is going through a rough patch in Tests, but he is one of the best batsmen in England. No point in dropping him when his replacement will have a lower ceiling. England have to back him and he will surely come good again.

Good decision to get him out of the firing line for the time being. He's going through a dip in form but I can see him bouncing back strongly yet again. I believe the last two matches are being held at the Oval and Old Trafford, where England will need two spinners.

In the meantime, I hope he gets a game or two with Worcs but I'm not sure if England have any domestic cricket going on.

Personally I'm glad they stuck with bairstow, it's actually buttler that needs to be axed from the test team as he's very inconsistent, and with him in the team it's actually putting unneeded pressure on bairstow, I'd replace buttler with ollie pope

No point talking about ceilings if the player never gets off the sofa.

Foakes is the better keeper and already has a higher test average.

If you want to retain Bairstow another way to go would be drop Buttler, but Bairstow averages a mere 29 when not keeping and Buttler 35 to date.

useless player. moeen is so overrated. rashid is better.

Rashid is better in ODIs, but in tests goes for one four-ball an over and lets all the pressure off. In any event he is out for the season with a chronic shoulder problem.

Moeen is not going to be an effective wicket taker in India or the subcontinent but his job is to block an end up for the seamers early on in the match, and is mightily effective in the fourth innings.
