Game is heading toward a draw.

England have to collapse really badly for Aussies to win this one.

Which is basically what they've done every single innings so far on this tour...

Result more likely than a draw in any modern Test, imo.

More rain coming, I believe.

I dunno. Root hasn’t properly spoken yet. But the last dig will be tough for the batters.

Injury update from ECB

Jonny Bairstow will resume batting this morning as he awaits scan results on his right thumb.

Ollie Pope will take the gloves for England in Australia's second innings after Jos Buttler copped a blow to his left index finger.

Ben Stokes has been for a scan on his sore left side. England will provide an update at the end of the Test.

Can’t wait for Labuschagne to play tests in India,Bangladesh or even Pak/UAE. All the hype will fizzle out fast.

Poms need to attack more , try and get wickets , if they can get a few more , they can put Aussies under pressure

Australia 221 runs ahead now , Its heading towards a draw here

Highly unlikely, an AUS win is still the favourite result, why on Earth do you think England can bat for 3 sessions on day 5? they will most likely be down 2-3 today as well.

Usman khawaja with another wonderful knock here.
He should have never been dropped from squad.

4th Test • The Ashes, 2021-22

AUS 416/8 d & 250/4 (66)

ENG 294 (79.1)

Day 4: 3rd Session - Australia lead by 372 runs

Aussies should declare here , they have enough on board , if Poms win from here , they deserve to win.

Bizarre tactics from Cummins and Australia.

Will lose valuable WTC points and also an opportunity of a clean sweep.

Down to England batsmen now to save face.

England have nothing to lose here.
They should play with all attacking mindset.
They can really chase this 👍🏻

Sometimes its better to play positive manner and try to counter attack , I think one of Bairstow or Butler should have opened the batting here

Back to back hundreds for Usman Khawaja, what a comeback this has been.

That surprises me. Australia would be within their right to insist that the keeper be a man on the field, not a sub.

They can chase it all day, but they won’t catch it. Too many. The bowling is too good on this surface.

Bringing up centuries in both innings, Usman Khawaja has etched his name in the record books, putting Australia firmly in command at the SCG.

After Australia's earlier declaration, England, needing 388 to win at the start of their innings, finished the day 30-0.

The day again belonged to Khawaja though, joining just five other Australian batters to score twin tons in a single Ashes Test, finishing 101 not out from just 138 balls.

Hitting ten fours and two sixes with a mix of touch and occasional force, Khawaja made runs through a textbook of shots all around the wicket. Bereft of ideas in response, England's several plans against him brought little success, with a number of sweeps and reverse sweeps adding to a host of drives through the cover region, as well as his trademark pull shot.

Coming in at 68/3, Khawaja at first provided a mix of stability and proactivity, after the hosts made a slight stumble earlier in the day, trying to accelerate.

David Warner (3) and Marnus Labuschagne (29) both fell to Mark Wood (2/65) who was the pick of the quick bowlers, with the under-pressure Marcus Harris unable to convert his start of 27 into a bigger score.

Harris fell to Jack Leach who finished with figures of 4/84, though a pair of Leach's wickets came in the final moments of Australia's innings, as they made a late scamper with the bat.

Only recalled after Travis Head tested positive for COVID-19, Khawaja was joined by Cameron Green in a partnership of 179 from just 238 balls, as the pair bludgeoned the opposition to all corners of the ground.

Green was seemingly freed by the match situation, and posted 74, his second Test half-century. Interestingly, his other Test fifty was made at the same ground last year against India.

Having scored 137 in the first innings, Khawaja finished unbeaten after the fall of Green and Alex Carey first ball, making back-to-back centuries for the first time in his first-class career.

He joins compatriots Doug Walters and Ricky Ponting as the only players to score centuries in both innings of a Test at the SCG, the first to do so in an Ashes series. He also accompanies Steve Smith, Matthew Hayden, Steve Waugh, Arthur Morris and Warren Bardsley as the only Australian men to record twin tons in Ashes history.

In response, Zak Crawley made 22* in the final hour of play, and will be joined by Haseeb Hameed (8*) when play resumes tomorrow.

No way england would chase 300 on fin day here, 380 was stupid, Aussies batted on to long. very negative move

Beautifully done Usman — majestic batting — giving the selectors a lot to think about! Well batted Cameron Green as well.

Woody (again — he has genuinely challenged Marnus) and Leach (in comeback mode) bowled very well today I thought. Leach might have even had a hat-trick without the declaration!

Australia again have outplayed England, but the pitch has flattened out and for the first time in the series, England go into the final day of an Ashes Test match with a realistic chance of at least getting a draw (if not the win). Crawley looked both solid and fluent before the close of play.

Looking forward to Day 5 and hopefully the weather stays clear.

How many Test captains you know who retired 300 in front, only 4 wickets down, with 4.5 sessions to play? That's where Oz were at 300 run lead...

England need to score @ 3.6 runs per over to win. Not impossible.

Australia scored @ 3.8 in their second innings.

The wicket has arguably got better to bat on as the Test has gone on. It was spicier during the first 7 sessions or so, but since the Stokes-Bairstow partnership got going it has looked pretty flat. It’s firmly a batter’s pitch at this stage.

The opposition no longer get any say in it, it's completely at the umpires discretion.

whether wicket has eased out or not this england team rarely scoreds over 250 runs most inns yet now they will get 300?

only way that happens if Aussies bowl pies all day tomorrow.

Aussies are 3-0 up already why the fear that england could chase 300 down? Aussies should have at least at another 10 overs at england with the ball tonight.

This is england, not india

Pitch seems to have completed flattened now which is really inexcusable and, actually, terrible from Cricket Australia for a day 4 pitch to be so lifeless.

England still might lose just because they have this incredible ability to lose test matches at the moment but don't think that should let Cricket Australia off the hook for this pitch. Maybe the weather played a part, I don't know.

300 is a tough ask. Not many sides have passed 300 to win a test. England did in 2019 due to the Stokes miracle innings but it’s very rare.

This has been an odd sort of Test match. There have been passages of play where things have rather drifted along; and then suddenly a fair amount of action will occur in a short space of time. This could be down to the pitch, the fact that it’s effectively a dead rubber, or something else. Certainly from late Day 2 / early Day 3 onwards this has been the case.

It is not easy to chase such a large total in the 4th inning, but Eng has 10 wickets and the series is not on the line. No pressure of series here, just play freely. If someone can make 150(150) then suddenly this total will start looking small. Someone from Eng has more chance of someone making 150(150) instead of 110(150) because they don't trust their defense.

Hopefully, some fight is shown here.

England need to go for it

Their only chance to get some respect

They are all shot-players except Baby Boycott, and possibly Stokes when he has the bit between his teeth.

One player has to dig in and the rest play normally. Run quick singles and Cummins will very quickly start to bottle it and put the field back.

But I expect they will be bowled out for about 200 unless lightning / rain intervenes - it is forecast.

A draw here would be a good result for England in their current circumstances and it would not just be because of rain either (whether the clouds open or not). Aside from the horror session where they panicked horribly and ended up being 36/4 with the bat briefly, England have played some good cricket in Sydney this time (despite being outplayed by Australia in the match overall).
