What's new

England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 3

I think it's slow and low like a day 1 or day 2 pitch in Dubai. But I don't think it will deteriorate very much at all - it will just get very slightly slower on days 4 and 5.

Pakistan have been so lucky with the pitches and weather conditions compared with the Sri Lankan visitors 8 weeks ago!

It's not about luck - they were playing in May, Pakistan in August. The Test that SRL played in June, they did competed well.

Apart from luck, I think lot of capability has in it as well. SRL got ENG 4 or 5 down for less than 100 both times, then allowed them to add 300+.

This wicket is not like traditional Edgebaston wicket, but it is, lot, lot, lot ................. lot seam friendly than Dubai wicket for the weather & the ball used.

At least for once, give the credit where it's due - Azhar batted brilliantly & the Old man is baking some pies.

Younis Khan thinks it is a Roses match, the adopted Yorkshireman winding up Lancashire's "Burnley Lara" Jimmy Anderson.

7 overs of solid batting so far, I guess runs will come at sum point, Need to make sure we get a lead of 100+ at least.

True, but all swing - no seam.

The Shane Warne montage a minute ago of Misbah against bouncers through the series bodes very poorly for if Pakistan take him to Australia. Starc and Pattinson are so much faster - I'm afraid they might kill him.

If no wickets falls in the first hour then it will be an innings defeat for England

Getting out like that twice in this series might not be down to bad luck.

Looked good out there. Throwing away his wicket with that exaggerated trigger movement.

Such a wastage of a good start. YK, just not concentrating enough.

Strangled down the leg-side. Disappointing given Younis had worked so hard to get in. Was turning out to be a good first half hour for us.

Need a big knock from Shafiq now.

4th batsman to throw the wicket away from Pakistan absolutely rubbish from Younis Khan.

Younis Khan scores this series:

33, 25
1, 28
31

I really admire the guy, but I think it's all over.

Everyone loses it eventually.

YK gone, was pretty much a walking wicket and the 2nd time in series hes got out like that.

If hes going to keep batting like this for rest of the series he needs to sadly retire.

Shuffling across and playing a silly shot. Younis Khan his usual self in this series.

:out

Time for Younis to retire. He is surplus to requirements and Azhar is the new mainstay in the middle-order.

These two are the in-form batsman. Hoping for a huge partnership to take back control, just opened the door a bit for Eng here.

With Misbah struggling out there if Asad doesn't score I sense a big collapse.

Still 23 runs behind and only 1 more genuine batsmen to come, pretty much down to Misbah, Asad and Sarfraz to get 150 runs between them to get pakistan into a decent position.

Considering PAK to bat 4th, I don't think there is much in the contest anymore. You can't expect to dominate England giving 3 of 4 dismissal from casualness.

Again he was falling over. He was in no position to play that shot. It's a free bee..

Younis needs to retire. He will not succeed in Australia or any of the countries that we will be touring.

we need stout defence here to blunt them..I dont care if they dont make too many runs as long as we have wickets in hand by lunch..

A shame unlucky to get strangled down the leg side like that but he has been dismissed in a similar fashion during this series, younis was looking good this morning. Never feel relaxed watching Shafiq bat but this pair usually work well together, hopefully they can forge a huge partnership

This session and inns could make or break the entire match and series.

Too many miracles required for Younis to succeed with his current technique.

Something needs to change, he has to try and stay still or else he will get starts and get out same fashion every time. Have seen no adjustment from him so far, what on earth has he been working on with grant flower

If that's the best he can do he really shouldn't be playing cricket anymore let alone at an international level.

You probably haven't watched him play this series otherwise you would have realized that he was looking far more comfortable on the crease and was middling balls unlike his previous innings.

I think this is your anger speaking which has affected your judgement about a certain player. Yes we all have been thoroughly disappointed at his performances this series but he was definitely looking far more settled than he's looked all series.

He has played like 10 innings in england this tour , he should have figured it out by now.

Not the best start to the day. Younis Khan has been a let down!

Not debating the fact that he looked better in this innings than he has in the past. However, he still looks a shadow of his former self and continues looking uncomfortable against fast bowlers. Still jumping around and shuffling. He may have done better in this innings compared to how he's done in the last few but still his better is not good enough at this level.

Calm down guys . The lead will be at least 100 if not more

Not this innings , only today. Yesterday he was struggling big time.

Pakistan has proved now and again . . that their batting maxes out at about 350 . . if its the top order, the middle and lower order doesn't do anything . . if the top order fails . . the middle and lower order get you that far . .

At worst, hopefully these two can put on a fifty-plus stand, followed by a typically brisk 20 to 30 from Sarfraz. If the tail can eke out 20 to 30 runs between them, we'll have a lead of around 100.

100 is not good enough. Need to bat the day. Get at least 200-250 lead. Let's not forget we'll be batting on the last day and chasing 150-200 would also be very difficult

Need 50 runs each from our two inform players at least today! YK inns pretty much killed any momentum pakistan had in this match.

That's your opinion. I disagree with it.

He has always moved around somewhat and has always been extravagant in his defense against pacers albeit no way near the level he has been this series.

Today, I saw a normal Younus who was confident about his game and looked pretty much standard with his movements.

You don't have to agree with my opinion but you can agree that a middle-order test batsman aged in the late 30's/early 40's who has averaged 23 in this series so far should probably hang up his boots and allow someone else to take his place

YK has become a walking wicket now a days...no offense but I don't see his 10K coming soon...but only if he decided to stay for another 4 years.

I really hope not! I can't read the future - they are just a bit of fun!

I also predict and hope that Manchester will be separated from England within the next 4 years although it would be ideal if it didn't exist altogether given the Mancunian pollution.

I hope pakistans plan is not to try and bore the england batsmen to sleep and wait for moeen to come on, we need to look to score some bloody runs here
