The so called 'designer champions jacket' looks like a schoolboy blazer...but then again what do you expect...the 'designer' was indian...

Surely if you want a top designer youd go for italy or something like that?

Wait a sec - Angelo Matthews has bee CALLED BACK by the umpires (or was it by Strauss???)

I think it was Strauss

It appears Andrew Strauss has taken back the appeal...matthews is not out

Hats off to Strauss - we know what Collingwood would have done in this situation.

Matthews has been called back by Strauss.

Good decision as it wasn't fair.

You dont see that often in cricket..! Is that fairplay or a bit too generous from strauss?

It was getting quite boring so that run out drama created a bit of excitement.

Matthews has been caught behind hahahahha

Matthews is out now, justice is done and that is VERY deserved for Strauss who is a true gentleman! Well done Andrew Strauss.

This is getting better, Matthews had been called back and he managed to add only one run before getting out.

Strauss has more than just a wicket to celebrate.
Well done Strauss!!!!

Its also worth pointing out that SL have still NOT taken their powerplay...matthews got called back wasnt that the ideal opportunity? What exactly are they waiting for?

They heard you but a bit too late.

It's still gonna be fun with Murali though......

Expected nothing less than from Murali, his ugly slogs are quite funny.

Muralis got another boundary!

Surely James Anderson should bowl next...

Poooor delivery by Broad, fulltoss outside leg. Any batsman in the world would have hit that for FOUR.

These runs from Mural can be the difference between the teams. He did the same against Pakistan in the 1st match of the 5-match series recently.

What a good try by Strauss but dropped the catch in the end.
Murali enjoying his stay.......

Murali's leg stump goes for a quick walk.
Broad bowls Murali for 18.

I really feel this is a very very bad bowling performance by the England.
The pitch was made them,...

and their got the early wickets.

Malinga's off stump takes a similar route and joins Murali's leg stump

Lanka 197/9

This is a bit annoying....anderson has bowled well all day but its broad thats getting the cheap wickets...come on anderson deserves them and i deserve the fantasy points dammit!

Is it going to be hattrick???
Would Broad join Jerome Taylor????

Let's see................Oh NO!!! Mendis defends the Hatrick ball.

39.6 Onions to Mathews, 1 run, drama, plenty of drama! Too straight from Onions, Mathews gets up and works the ball into the gap at square leg, runs the first hard, turns back for the second and runs into Onions, then stumbles, and in the meantime Prior collects the ball and effects the run out ... Mathews stands mid-pitch and protests that Onions was blocking him but he is ruled out walks off, shaking his head ... England celebrate but then look on in frustration as Mathews is called back .... in fact it is Strauss who called Mathews back ... unlike Collingwood against New Zealand last summer when a similar incident happened at The Oval ...just an accident, or too generous a decision from Strauss?

Right, that was tense. It was not Onions fault as he was just going back to the stumps to see if he needed to collect the ball. Mathews turned and was ball watching and ran into Onions. To me it looked like Onions was not trying to obstruct Mathews. It should be the batsman's job to try and get out of the way. No malice there. Strauss did what he saw as best at the moment. This may turn into headlines later. Lets see. For now, lets move on.

Broad takes two in the over
Sri Lanka 198/9 (44 ov)

12th man, mate no offence but what exactly was the point of posting that? If we wanted to see it we can just type in cricinfo.com cant we?

Holy Smokes what a shot by Kulasekara, short and wide and smacked for 6!! Poor bowling from Broad

and if someone had described it a bit, I wouldn't have had to go to cricinfo to read it. I am not watching or following the matches. I just check it every 10-15 minutes

If you want a detailed analysis then cricinfo is the site to be for you. Obviously we're slightly more casual here probably since we are not trained text commentators. Myself and Oxy did briefly explain it when the incident took place, and most people also commended Strauss for his actions.

Anyway a great recovery from Srilanka, ending up on 212 all out.

Somehow I get the feeling England will lose this game?

well 200+ under lights against Mendis and co will be difficult to get. We will see how they fare.

Can England win this?
Is the wicket as Juicy as the one Pak and Windies played?
I am not watching this game so I cannot say for sure.

But England should feel right at home on this sort of wicket. They have the batsmen who can grind their way through this.

What do you think? I am supporting England to win .. Just so it spices the tournament up a bit.

England batting doesn't have much ODI match-winning firepower. The pitch is ~80% as bad as it was in Pak vs WI, so still expect a lot of English batting bloodshed, esp. under the lights.

SL should have played Thushara for this one. Spinners aren't the key here.

for those watching on direct tv, why does Nick Knight never know that the camera is rolling...

:)

Thing is SL dont really have the bowlers to exploit these conditions, Kulasekera apart who is still a bit short on pace...so it will be interesting to see. It could be that SLs medium pacers such as angelo matthews stic to the basics of line and length and get results that way.

England making shaky progress here

5-0 in almost 4 overs

He gets his man LBW this time though, Denlys uncomfortable stint at the crease comes to an end England are 9/1
