Jaiswal needs to go big. He might be the highest scorer for India in the 3rd innings. Got to make his drops count tomorrow.
 
Flop Sudarshan IPL flat track bully can't even maintain his Ranji average of 35.

Now this ftb will score 150 vs hapless West Indies & keep occupying the #3 spot for a year before he comes across New Zealand & Australia next year.

Easwaran should have been picked, Gambhir's selections have flopped in Australia as well as here.

England were 92-0 in the 12th over and from that moment on, you talk about Root's sweep of Bumrah changing that game, I just wonder whether Ben Duckett's sweep did the same here and whether they went too hard. It was such a high risk shot. Him and Crawley played beautifully, and they could've come down a gear and they didn't - that annoyed me a bit.

England hurt by late drops in decisive final Test​


England dropped crucial catches late on the second day of the decisive final Test to leave India with the momentum at The Oval.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was put down twice in his 51 not out and Sai Sudharsan let off once before falling lbw to Gus Atkinson. The tourists eventually closed a chaotic day on 75-2, leading by 52.

The ball darted around throughout. India lost their last four first-innings wickets inside the first six overs of the morning to be bowled out for 224, then England lost all nine of their wickets for 155 runs in being dismissed for 247.

In such helpful conditions for the bowlers, an extraordinary opening stand of 92 between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, racked up in less than 13 overs, was incredibly valuable for the home side.

Duckett was sensational for his 43, reverse-sweeping Akash Deep and scooping Mohammed Siraj for a six apiece. Crawley hammered 14 fours in his 64.

Duckett's dismissal, attempting another reverse at Deep, began India's resurgence and sparked more exchanges between the two teams in what has been a tetchy series.

Deep put his arm around the shoulders of Duckett as he departed. If that looked good-natured, later verbals between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root were anything but. Root, usually unflappable, was furious.

Mohammed Siraj was outstanding in taking 4-86, supported by Krishna's 4-62. Harry Brook's 53 dragged England into a slender lead of 23.

That advantage was wiped out quickly as England bowled for a second time in the day. Whereas the hosts were ruthless in the morning, led by Atkinson's 5-33, their sloppiness in the evening could cost them a series victory.

Sudharsan was put down by Crawley after Jaiswal was given lives by Brook and Liam Dawson. Dawson was subbing for Chris Woakes, who will miss the remainder of the match with a shoulder injury sustained on day one.

Test is completely balanced at this stage.

India need to ensure they keep the intent good and continue scoring without going in a shell. Hope we have a good day tomorrow.

Yea..Since Gill has struck form and Rahul has found himself again India doesn't have to worry too much about batting. Jaiswal it is a matter of time rockign again. He is the opener. If Jo Root opens he will also struggle. We all saw how Smith struggled as opener. Jaiswal first tour of Australia he was the highest run getter more than SMith. This tour he has made a century couple of 50s. Our batting is settled.

Just watched the live coverage from London where England fans ( 65 around age) saying they enjoyed a series after 2005 Ashes

He said " All test here going till fifth Days unlike earlier where they used to finished in 3 or 4 days "

India played with 10 players at Gabba. Saini broke down in 7 overs. Jadeja broke down did not bowl at the SCG test in 2021.
 
Looks like ECB isnt whole lot different from BCB for selecting an aging Woakes for 5 straight Test matches. No one has that level of fitness at that age.

No wonder, it took ECB to get a thrashing from Rubel Hossain in 2015 to change their LOI game.
 
We are blessed to have had such an unexpectedly competitive series.

On these flat pitches and in dry summer, Indian batting and seam bowling have overperformed and England batting and bowling has been across series undercooked thus leading to such close games.

It is great outlier that top 3 Indian batters outperform top 3 English batters so comprehensively that too when likes of Root and Brook are involved.

Chris Woakes' decline with bat and ball also was unprecedented. He would usually be the banker in these home series for Eng and him being quiet and Atkinson and Stone's absence has asked too much of Stokes and Carse bowling wise over 4 tests.
 
One point Indian management and specifically coach Gambhir must be credited with is their insistence on batting till #8.

Yes they have made some poor selection calls but the insistence on NKR and here at Oval to go with specialist batter over public pressure to play wrist spinner who would be useless on these surfaces is commendable
 
India will leave this series hoping that Sai Sudarshan and Sundar can become top 6 mainstays for them going forward.

England will leave this series knowing that they don't have a spinner good enough to survive 5 tests in Aus and that their aging bowling allrounder is busted. It is also probably now clear that Ollie Pope will remain a mediocre 35 avg batter forever. If he couldn't get a bumper run against this Ind team on these wickets, he's never gonna take off. Eng will stick with him for Ashes but if they lose badly his career will be done.

BCB is poorer than Afghanistan cricket board lol Don't compare BCB with ECB. They won 2022 world T20, 2019 world cup, Won a lot more tests under current leadership with this set up. Woakes was bowling exactly at the same speed as he was bowling in the first test. They had Anderson bowling at well over 43. They are way fitter than 25 year old youngsta beauty Shaheen or Naseem
 
I know Pakistan fans don’t want India to win but you have to admit siraj performance was truly special. He deserves a win.

And Prasidh Krishna as well.

After being ridiculed by myself included, Prasidh has done well.
 
This is evenly poised atm.... England batters made a mess in 1st inning... They should have scored twice the runs they scored.
 
If India win, Pakistan win too as we have siraj leading the pack

'Part of the plan' to disrupt Root, says Krishna

India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna says it was a deliberate tactic to try and disrupt Joe Root when the pair were involved in a heated exchange on the second day of the fifth Test at The Oval.

The exact words, which came when Root was yet to get off the mark and played and missed at Krishna, were not picked up by the stump microphones but the England batter was unusually animated in his response.

Krishna, who took 4-62 as England were bowled out for 247 in their first innings, added that he was also taken by surprise by how it unfolded.

"It was the plan [to disrupt him], but I didn't expect the couple of words that I said to get such a big reaction from him," he said.

"I love the guy that he is, he is a legend of the game. It's just when two people are out there wanting to be a winner and wanting to be the best in that moment.

"It was just a small thing, the competitive edge coming out. Both of us are good mates off the field and it was just a bit of banter."

England are in a tricky situation, with India taking a 52-run lead into day three with eight wickets in hand after Ollie Pope's side dropped three catches late on.

Tensions have been high throughout the series, which the hosts lead 2-1.

Before this Test match started, India coach Gautam Gambhir was involved in a confrontation with The Oval's ground staff, skipper Shubman Gill accused England of going against the spirit of cricket with time-wasting tactics and seamer Mohammed Siraj was fined for his send-off of Ben Duckett during the third Test at Lord's.

Duckett was involved in another strange incident before Krishna's encounter with Root, as Akash Deep dismissed him for 43 and put his arm around the England opener's shoulder as he walked from the pitch.

"I don't think I've ever seen a bowler do that after getting someone out," said England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick.

"You've seen them having words, we've seen it from both sides in this series. It was just different.

"We've seen it in the series already that Ben doesn't do a great deal [in response]. There was probably no need to walk him off in that fashion but the game has been fought in good spirits, there have been some words and arguments along the way but the two teams are still getting on well enough and will continue to do so."

Trescothick also acknowledged India's plan in trying to unsettle Root, who played fluently for his 29 before being pinned lbw by Siraj.

"They made a comment, they tried to get after him and spark him up a bit. India tried a different approach and Joe bit back," he told BBC Test Match Special.

"Normally he laughs and giggles and allows things to happen, but today he chose a different route. Everyone has their own method of dealing with that sort of approach and today Joe bit back, that's fine - it doesn't make any difference."

England's selection 'extraordinary' - Vaughan

Having been bowled out in 51.2 overs with a lead of just 23, England faced a difficult evening session with an already depleted bowling attack having to cope without the injured Chris Woakes.

A lively morning session saw Gus Atkinson complete a five-wicket haul as England efficiently mopped up India's lower order once more, but despite much-improved consistency from Josh Tongue in particular, the tourists were not drawn into making the same mistakes later in the day.

They were also gifted some assistance from England in the field as Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is unbeaten on 51, was dropped on 20 and 40 and Sai Sudharsan was also put down before he was eventually dismissed by Atkinson for 11.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan says England have not helped their case with their selections.

Batter Jacob Bethell, 21, is making his first appearance of the series and made just six, having played one red-ball match in seven months.

Jamie Overton, 31, came in as England were forced into bowling changes because of a shoulder injury to captain Ben Stokes, and with Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer needing to rest, but he has played only four first-class matches since September 2023.

Overton took 0-66 in India's first innings, made a duck with the bat and is so far wicketless for 22 runs from five overs - though the Sudharsan drop came off his bowling.

"The only thing I'd say on England's selection is they've picked people who have played no cricket and to throw them into this hotbed of international cricket, in front of this amount of people and so many watching on TV screens around the world, it isn't an easy game," said Vaughan.

"It is no surprise they looked a bit vulnerable out there - because if you're not going to play cricket, you're not going to have your body used to playing cricket.

"If you're throwing a 21-year-old into this situation on the back of one first-class match in our summer, I find that absolutely extraordinary. I don't think you're giving a kid the best chance of succeeding at this level."

Vaughan believes India were just in front of England in terms of the match position, and former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta was in agreement.

"It's going to be about pressure and so far in this series this India side have handled pressure well, and it's been a long tour - one more innings to go," said Dasgupta.

"You have to keep everything else away and just bat normally.

"The pitch will get better, it's just about how you handle it. At Lord's, it wasn't handled well. At Old Trafford it was handled very well by India."

Meanwhile, former England captain Sir Alastair Cook said: "I am going England as favourites. On the basis that everyone tells me that the wicket gets better on day three or four."
