In 53rd over. Do you even understand test cricket? Eng is batting at a run rate of just over 2. They dont care about winning this game and just want Cook to score. In this flat pitch, even Ind will pile lots of runs.
 
It’s not a flat track - maybe it will become one but the ball has been moving consistently after lunch. There have been so many play and misses. India should have actually pitched the ball up further and England could well be 3 or 4 down.


If England do score 400 India will be in deep trouble cause this wicket will turn by day 4.
 
These two are ensuring that its a draw. England is not forcing for a win. Unfortunately India also went in a defensive mode by playing extra batsman! (not sure if even that clicks because he is debuting and could be some butterflies in his stomach!) 3-1 also looks pretty bad, so what happened to Shastri's & Kohli's agresshaan?
 
Brilliant hospitality by England, allowing india's FTB a platform to give one final hurrah to all the indian fans that have suffered during this tour. Don't be fooled by englands slow start, they have Bairstow, Buttler and Stokes ready to tee off, Sam curran isn't to bad aswell. 400+ total coming up, England will only bat once during this test.

India can also score more runs and bite time in 1st innings. If they can't do it, then Rahul & Rahane can take retirement from Test Cricket!

We have not even had two sessions out of fifteen.

They are building a platform for the middle order who willlook to accelerate.

Chef is being Chef. Moeen is a bit stuck at present in a new role against good bowling but if he waits, the bowlers will get tired and runs will flow.

Buttler, Stokes will score a run a ball hundred on this pitch.

If England scores in excess of 400, expect India to crumble.

i remember him and michael Holding talking about superstitions in cricket during the last test, Miky was laughing at Sachins superstitions and asked Bhaji what happened to his lucky charms when he "failed" , bhaji replied something along the lines of "yes in the field aswel" was very cringe worthy i almost felt sorry for him..

His commentary is the second worst thing to cope with in this whole tour....the first is SAM CURRAN

I would love Chef to become master chef today and score a ton. He should get out on a high
 
So where is Indian's much touted bowling attack now that the conditions are placid?
 
I don't think wicket is that flat - there is enough bounce and ball is swinging. On a sunny day, ENG is scoring at 2 RR and both batsmen were dropped. On another day ENG could have gone to tea 128/4 easily. If ENG scores 400+ even in 5.5 sessions, it'll be tough to draw this game without rain. Next few days, it's likely to be less sunny and ball will swing. Also, I am sure well see reverse swing at some point. On contrary, if ENG bats too slow and gets all out for ~300, IND can bat them out of Test and then there can be only one possible winner.
 
I can only assume the people already talking about a draw don't watch much test cricket.

Harbhajan's commentary has been worth it for the time he called him Sam Curhaan
 
Incase any one has forgotten, this is a 5 day test match. RR doesn't matter at this stage, mark my words this test will wake up soon and will not end as a draw
 
Chef looking good. Moeen will have to score some runs too currently on 23(102).
Partnership 63 runs from 36.2 overs, RR 1.76.
 
Run rate of England is very low. They may end up with only around 200 today . If they loose few wickets , they will on back seat

No Shaw yet - he is too raw for AUS. May be they should debut him against WI and take him to AUS as 3rd opener, but at this point better not to put him straight into AUS. Your batting line-up missing one lefti in top order as I agree with Saha, therefore I think they should take Dhawan as 2nd opener, or may be Mukund.

in a 6+4 combination, 3+1 bowling option is a bit risky, particularly with young Kuldeep. He has a tendency to bowl 1 boundary ball every over. Ideal was probably 3 pacer + Kumble with Ganguly, Sehwag & Tendulakar bowling few overs. but that's past.

These days quality of spin play has gone to such a level that I think 1.5 spinner isn't a bad idea in AUS. 3 pacers, Kuldeep/Ashwin & one batsman who than bowl 25 overs of spin in a Test is ideal. Instead of Kuldeep, a right arm leggi was more preferable, but AUS will have half the side lefti, so fair enough.

There is trying your luck and there is taking your final review out of your pocket and setting fire to it in the middle of the pitch as the world watches.
 
England openers are batting so selfishly.Such a negative mindset,they should learn from countries like Englan- oh wait.

That's right. If England puts up a good score here,they will win it i think. It's not that much batsman friendly as people are putting things here. India has created few chances already ,couldn't hold on to those
 
England are batting slowly because this isnt a flat pitch. Wait till Broad and Anderson get going India are just not that good, this myth of a bowling attack will be made to toil, well done Kohli/Shastri for only picking 4 bowlers.
 
I think this might hit Root outside the line, otherwise it's hitting the stumps
 
India back in it with a bang. Slow run rate would definitely hurt England now. Moin Ali must not give away the hard work done.

Slow batting always hurts , I told that in my very first post , negative attitude will never succeed.
 
Ball is suddenly moving a bit. There is no cloud cover either.

What's going on? I thought the pitch would get completely flat by the end of the day
 
Got to say Ishant Sharma has turned into a world class bowler in the past 2-3 years.

Took him a decade to reach the maturity.

Ball has been moving regularly since the 18th or so over.

I've lost count of how many play and misses there have been.

I think, what helped him most is being dropped from the shallow version of cricket - he learned that getting cheap wicket is easy, but getting batsmen out when they are trying to survive is an art.

Shami got the ball to swing a bit and has beaten Moeen Ali a million times.

But the ball is doing even more now. This pitch is not as flat as it was 30 overs ago.
 
Playing at a RR of 2 per over only works when you have the likes of Cook or Misbah, players with great defense.

Perhaps.

What I am impressed with Ishant is that he does not leak runs anymore and consistently hits the uncertainity corridor. Good signs for India. Ishant is only 29. He still has a good 3 or 4 years left in his tank.
 
Just shows how impressive Cook's innings was was albeit after being dropped. How England are going to 2 find 2 openers to replace him and Strauss who they still haven't replaced is going to be some task.

It should get faster on Day 2, and probably best for batting on Day 3. Getting better is subject to weather - if it's cloudy, game might finish in side 3 days :(, but in general Oval starts to turn from day 4 - very good Test wicket. In olden days Oval & Adelaide (& Cape Town) were 3 best wickets which offered something for every one in course of 5 days.

Sometimes it's just about how much effort the bowler is putting in.

India is playing 4 bowlers. I wouldn't be surprised if the bowlers aren't stepping off the gas a little, once every 3 spells.

Even a struggling Cook is head & shoulder above any other English opener. He could & should have played another 4/5 years easily.
 
Honestly most boring day of cricket I’ve ever watched. Feel for those who paid to watch.

If Poms can double this score, they'll in commanding position. Key is 2nd ball as ENG hasn't race with scoring at 170 sort of total with 2nd ball, if IND can clean the bottom half within 250, it'll be an even contest there after.

Average and balls faced per innings for England #3 over the last 3 years:

Root - 43 from 70 balls (35 from 66 in the last 2 years)
Compton - 25 from 61
Vince - 31 from 63
Bell - 31 from 99
Westley - 24 from 50
Ballance - 21 from 43

43 from 147 balls today is well above average :salute

I agree with this part but he would have ruined his legacy - the average would have continued to dip and end up resembling Michael Vaughan's average who was a far better batsman than what his stats show.
