NZ need to dig in and fight hard , things will not be easy, Poms will come back hard here

T20 has actually helped us a bit. We just don't know how to defend, full stop.

Just seems to be working for us at this point in time.

Don't think Ryder is coming back anytime soon. How's he doing though?

I feel Watling would get the chop and Brendo would go back to keeping.

Watling is an excellent keeper and has taken some good catches and saved a lot of byes this Test, it will be injustice. He's a good batsman as well.

If Nz can manage to get a 30-40 runs lead it would be very good. However, i see them get bowled around or under 200.

Doesn't matter how well he bowls. Can't get a load of wickets that one.

NZ are a very strong side. They have been competitive in 4 games now against England. Would India/Sri Lanka beat them in NZ?

I don't understand the logic of selecting Finn/Broad, the former of which has been in terrible county form, and the latter who has been perpetually useless. Bresnan isn't much better, but he's been tearing up county cricket.

Play called off

New Zealand trail by 79 runs with 6 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Well played NZ.

Now time for Jimmy to pull out the belt against Finny/Broady.

The Kiwis have definitely had the better of the conditions as it is now easier to hit fours. England will need to get McCullum out sharpish tomorrow, in order not to conceded a lead.

Come on bud, how about giving the opposition some credit? You guys used the same 'better conditions' excuse against us. How is it that they racked up so many runs on the same day, on the same pitch that England struggled on and lost 6 wickets?

1. the outfield dried out in the afternoon so it was easier to hit fours

2. they took more quick singles.

Because they cheated. No team is anywhere near as good as England, we only get beaten when god turns the conditions against us because he knows we are so much better than everybody else :malakian:

I'd never say that, i don't believe in god.

So England win the toss (in their own condition) and choose to bat first but somehow NZ had the better of the conditions? Oh well...

New Zealand have done well, but think they'll get bottled for a similar total to England from this point. And England have an advantage over them that NZ will bat last.

Get rid of Broad and get someone in who's deserving. This is why England's pace attack never becomes extraordinary, too much persisting with fast bowlers who they deem simply as OK and not enough competition and trying out for places. There's quite a bit of fast bowling talent in England, they just rarely give it a chance.

And Bell being outperformed by the two youngsters under pressure yet again :facepalm. Dunno what to do with him. You could say the youngsters could use his experience in the middle order to bat with, but Bell's generally feeling the heat more than they are.

Feel the best way to get the most out of Bell is open with him. His technique will see out the new ball and he won't have to play to situation/wickets tumbling as much.

If Compton loses his place, play Bell there. If Compton keeps it, might be time to get rid of Bell for good when KP returns. It's worth having Bairstow and Root in the side, both making an impression early on in their careers. With Taylor fighting for a place too, there's quite a lot of competition for middle order spots and Bell ain't cutting it.

NZ with their noses in front here, credit to them for bowling our guys out and laying down the gauntlet. We have to make sure we don't concede a lead over 50 otherwise we could be in serious trouble. Very tight match.

England got about 12 runs total from their tail.

There's two ways for NZ to get a handy lead now, either McCullum & Williamson kick on or the tail wags a little bit (Watling, Southee & Martin all capable).

If NZ just bat half decently tomorrow they could come out with a 50 run lead. If they bat well, it could be 80+.

Kiwis really doing well,I wonder if Kiwis will play like this whole series! cricket needs kiwis to do well

The funny thing is everything that Malakin has said has turned out to be wrong.

Certainly not a lucky charm for England.

Broad was swinging it miles ... straight into the middle of Taylor's bat.

:)))

Thank goodness for James Anderson, time and time again he is required to keep us in the Test.
