England vs Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's, London | May 24-28, 2018 | Day 1 | Match Thread

Our tail looks better than Englands. Work that one out :afridi:

They dropped Woakes and Moeen. Birmingham does not tolerate that kind of disrespect and England have been duly punished today.

Markhor.

How are we looking out there? Solid or are the bowlers testing the batsmen? Im in a meeting :(

Don't want to speak too soon but they're leaving well. Some testing deliveries as you'd expect given the gloomy weather. Just need to see it out till stumps.

Watching a cricket match after balling up might just be the greatest thing in the world. :baelish

I'm wondering who will the pompous Brits blame when they lose the match. They blamed the CT semi pasting to the pitch in their own home ground.

solid start but i won't be relaxed till it's we have a lead and plenty of wickets in hand

Thanks. If we can it would certainly be one of the best days of test cricket at Lords for us.

You said 180 is good enough?

Considering the conditions, I thought Anderson will rip out 2 or 3 wickets in the first 10 overs. Then 180 would have been enough considering how thin Pak batting looks on paper.
But that did not happen. Without Clouderson getting top order wickets, the rest of the bowlers are incapable of utilizing the conditions. Broad, Stokes and Wood are hit the deck bowlers.

If this Amir who was unable to pick up wickets in these extremely bowler friendly conditions half of PP would be calling for his head, burning his effigies.

Can we expect 120 runs from Sarfaraz+Shadab+Fahim+Hasan+Amir+Abbas?

If that happens then England have no chance

Outstanding batting so far. People forget Anderson and Broad in these conditions are hell for the visiting team.

Anderson, Broad, Wood and Stokes is a pretty strong pace attack. Looking forward to a tense finish tonight and then what is bound to be a nailbiting contest tomorrow.

Azhar should see off the new ball today but can't afford this dead batting tomorrow because if wickets fall pressure will be back on us.

Azhar needs to rotate strike. We can just get bogged down in survival mode.

Azhar is just so demoralizing to watch ... dull and no threat to opposition

This is exactly what we need in the circumstances. No need for expansive batting this close to stumps with a wicket already gone.

I think we should target atleast 350 score.... If we see off the rest of today when no more wickets it is very possible we might get there

haris looks solid, i hope he scores a big one and cements his position. He has all the talents, only batsman to replace misbah/yonus.

How was Faheem today, guys? didn't have a chance to watch? Did he looked threatening at any point?

Almost got Cook on 23 with an indipper. Very close LBW not given.

Troubled Cook particularly but otherwise bowled tight lines.

Got Bairstow's wicket with a beauty.

I have a feeling Abbas will score a fighting 30* and Hasan might score a quick fire 20.

But, Imagine Rahat Ali batting in there places...

This is the first Pakistan 11 I've seen where all 11 can hold a bat.... jury still out on Shafiq though

Their radio commentators had the excuses lined up at Lunch. "Pakistan were given gifts by England". Can't use the "in these conditions" mantra today :mv

Holding bats and holding balls is a great description of this Pakistan side. We have 6-7 bowlers too right now.

Mohammad Abbas
Mohammad Amir
Hasan Ali
Faheem Ashraf
Shadab Khan
Harris Sohail
Azhar Ali
—Throw out Imam and Asad—
Add-In:
Fakhar Zaman
Saad Ali

All these are our wicket taking bowlers.

"Mark Wood to Haris Sohail, no run, first drop of the day. Haris Sohail was squared up completely by the good length ball at the stumps, Haris Sohail got an outside edge. Ball was going to Malan at second slip but Stokes dived infront of second slip and could not take the catch"

Greatest alrounder in history of mankind ladies and gents :))) :))) :)))

Sohail needs to make most of that life. Hes got tendancy to get in and get out..need to get big runs.

This is why I'm not a proponent of dead batting.... you can block and block and block but eventually you will get a ball that has your name on it and 9 times out of 10 there won't be people like Stokes to mess it up. I understand right now we are in just survival mode but a little positivity goes a long way in wresting the initiative from the opposition.

Talk about oversimplification. It straightened considerably after pitching.

Having Azhar significantly prevents us from doing that

This is where the mental side of batting comes in.

Imam's innings vs Ireland was proof that survival mode doesn't mean block everything.
