England have won each of their last five T20I series – including one-offs – and, after winning the previous match against Pakistan, they have a chance to continue that run.

Overview
England v Pakistan, 3rd T20I
Old Trafford, Manchester
Tuesday, 1 September, 06pm local time, 05pm GMT

It's been over two years since England lost a T20I series and they appear primed to add to their winning streak.

With the first match having been washed out, Pakistan, the current No.4-ranked side in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Team Rankings, will look to find ways to counter the potent England batting order in a bid to level the series.

They may consider bringing in Wahab Riaz, whose experience and ability to bowl pace variations, might come in handy. If they decided to give Shaheen Afridi, who has played each game on the tour so far, a rest, the 20-year-old Mohammad Hasnain might also be an option to consider.

England's bowling was unable to make a breakthrough early in Pakistan's innings in the second T20I, and David Willey, with his ability to swing the new ball, might be in the reckoning for the third T20I.

While the first T20I had to be abandoned mid-way due to rain, the second was played under mostly clear skies and the forecast looks promising for the series finale as well. Another run-fest might be on the cards in Manchester.

Remember the last time

After a steady fifty from skipper Babar Azam at the top of the order, Mohammad Hafeez took the attack to the England bowlers, smashing a 36-ball 69, to power Pakistan to a seemingly imposing 195/4.

Jonny Bairstow and Tom Banton made a blazing start to the chase scoring at over 10 an over when both men were dismissed off successive deliveries in the seventh over by Shadab Khan with the score on 66. But the twin breakthrough provided little respite as Dawid Malan and captain Eoin Morgan wreaked havoc. Morgan was particularly destructive, smashing six fours and four sixes in his 33-ball 66, which helped England ease past the line with five balls to spare.

What they said:

Eoin Morgan (England captain): "The last two years in international cricket are my best numbers to date. That's great because if I can combine a little of that [form] with my experience, I think that will go a long way to winning games."

Babar Azam (Pakistan captain): "We stuck to our plans while batting, but we couldn't bowl well. Credit to Malan and Morgan for the way they played."

Wahab should play and so should hasnain.Wahab has best economy in death overs since 2018.He is probably the best bowler in t20s in world

Amir may be replaced due to his injury, so we may see Wahab brought into the team.

I would be disinclined to make any further changes as our batting performed well in the last game.

Maybe Shaheen to be swapped if we want to give a Naseem/Husnain a go.

Wahab is surely replacing Amir.

I think Shaheen needed a break after the long tiring test series. Unfortunately no one is capable enough to replace him. Hasnain should be given a go, but he gives away too many runs.

I really wish Haider someway makes a way into the squad. Malik can step down. Iftikhar played exceptionally well in Australia thus I would support him still.

Aamir is a liability in every format at this point. No justification in playing him. Shaheen(rotation), Aamir, Malik out. Wahab, Hasnain, Haider in. If you are not going to give youngsters chances in these bilaterals, then it is pointless playing them.

Agreed on all the points.

I have to say for a young man Muhammad Amir should hang his head in shame. You've been doing all this practice and when it came to your first game back, you've barely bowled a few overs and bang you are down for the count as if Mike Tyson hit you. Seriously is this the level of athleticism our guys have now???

I'd really like to see Naseem trialed for this guy and Hasnain would also be good. Rauf and Amir out, Hasnain and Naseem in.

In terms of batting not really any glitches but would drop Malik for Haider.

Rauf bowled well so no point dropping him, Amir is not fit so Wahab would play anyway. Iftikhar wasted 9 balls at the crucial time when he should have been hitting boundaries. His performances in Australia I guess will not be repeated again overseas. Pak need to move on from him just like they have from Asif Ali.

3rd T20: Wahab, Haider, Sarfaraz playing according to sources

Much better if that happens. Sarfraz know how to win T20s.

He shouldn’t be dropped as LOI captain in the first place. Tests I agree. In LOIs he was doing well , just his batting needs fixing, which can be done if he walks in at no.4 or 5

Rizwan didnt even get to bat in first T20, I think Sarfaraz is playing so that as a senior he gets alteast a game on this tour otherwise I dont think it makes sense.

Media pressure plus senior as you said which is a big problem for Asian teams

worrying sign was almost 80% of his deliveries were slow off cutter.Bowling more like irfan junior

Reports suggesting Sarfaraz, Wahab and Haider will be included.

Haider is great, but with the other 2 selections they're just moving backwards.

Agree with Haider and Wahab but Sarfaraz being played makes no sense!

Really???? Not that I don’t trust your sources but why would they drop Rizwan after some excellent stumpings/catches and he didn’t even get a chance to bat?

No logic to Pak selections tbh...Rizwan has nothing to prove or must be media pressure

Wahab is the only option to come in for Amir. I fully back it. No use playing a tired Naseem or Hasnain who got to top wicket taker of PSL with soft wickets (i.e he will be clobbered by Bairstow Morgan and Banton)

I fought we wanted to go foward with the youngsters am sure wahab isnt a youngester ?

Don't forget Wahab's had the biggest phainty of them all in England. I wouldn't be certain that he's not going to get clobbered also.

For now, Shaheen, Rauf are learning the ropes. If you add in Hasnain the bowling attack suddenly looks inexperienced and might come under pressure which will ruin Shaheen and Rauf development.

Hasnain should also be played of course, but purely in terms of team combinations we need a death bowler right now to pair with Rauf at the other end. Hasnain typically bowls in the powerplay and middle overs.

So Wahab isn’t a bad pick.

The real issue with lack of youngsters is Hafeez, Iftikhar, and Malik hogging batting spots in the team especially since we are struggling with batting youngsters, not bowling youngsters.

Shaheen is still playing?? They are over loading him by playing every match.

Hope they have the guts to drop Shoaib Malik. Then again it's Pakistan we're talking about.

Should have given a Naseem a chance to see fear in batsmen’s eyes.

England have won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Misbah and His Co has been unlucky, they would have won the test series only if they had a match winning bowler in that linenup. Then first T20 they would have chased 160 easily here. Then after scoring 195 only if they bowled yorkers and had aggressive field set they would have won.

Today Pakistan should bat and score around 190 I believe they can win, considering they open with Haris rauf and Shabab on the other end. Imad should come when field is open. Shaheen should be rested and should be replaced with hasnain, he is a decent bowler.

Is there such thing as a soft wicket in t20? 🤔

you have to be garbage if you can't even bowl a full quote with having such a long lay off. Just goes to show the lack of care they have for fitness. 1.3 overs and you pulled a muscle, seriously that's disgraceful for someone who is young.

Malik over Iftikhar 🤦*♂️🤦*♂️🤦*♂️. Just because he couldn’t hit 6s. It will be a WC winning day when Malik sania mirza will leave. I dont mind hafeez he is an excellent T20 player.

The removed Rizwan from the team. Malik still plays. atrocious decisions.

Looking forward to Haider Ali play, hopefully he carries that flair from PSL through to the International scene.

Team changes:

Haider in, Ifti out

Sarfaraz in, Rizwan out

Wahab in, Amir out

I wouldn't play Haider at 3 as he should come at 4 ahead of Malik.

Hafeez did well at 3 last game so keep it that way perhaps

Shoaib Malik still playing

Where's the power in the team? Who is gonna finish off the innings? Khushdil or Iftikhar should be playing in place of Shoaib Malik.

EOIN MORGAN confirms it is an unchanged side for England and is hoping that their bowling plans work a little better than in the second match - although there is one short boundary to contend with...

"It's a fresh pitch today, it looks a little bit drier than the first game that we played but it still looks good. The pitches have been magnificent here and there is obviously one short side. There is no hiding place in T20 cricket, it can be brutal at times and I think sometimes you can over-hype one short. Hopefully our plans work a little bit better today."

Usual suspects on the chopping block. Not surprised to see Ifti removed. After all the 'oh he played well in Australia' and 'he is Misbah's buddy' to 'he is brought as a later order', it has come down to him being dropped after just one game. Embarrassing, and exposes how weak the PCB are in terms of decision making.

While Malik secures his place as the E; Chapo of the team.

Hasnain yet again gets a free tour to the UK

Misbah injustice to Karachi Players continue unfortunately. Hasnain is young and quick give him a chance, T20 is a young team game and we are playing 40s age player. Well Done Misbah, at least under Mickey we had a young team.

I still think Sarfraz should get T20 Captaincy back, he is a v good limited over Captain. Only in Pakistan you get replaced, Kohli lost 3 to 4 WC finals and yet he is still the Captain. Whereas Sarfi only Lost his 1 WC and he is out.

Cannot believe Malik can keep his place over Khushdil
