England vs South Africa | 5th ODI | Lords | 31/08/2008

England has to be batting by 5:36 (or :46???) to get 20 overs in or it will be called off. The rain is not bad and some clear sky coming this way.

It's by 5:30 GMT that England should start batting so that 20 overs can be fitted in to make it a match!

If England has a whitewash then England moves to #2 in ODI rankings

Umpires have been out to check. sheets are coming off but quite a bit of cleaning to do and light is not that good

that would be quite a jump, shows how poor the rankings are done, y winning one series how can they jump 4 places to second, unbelievable :boom:

It is not 4 places. They are number 4 right now. You gain more points by beating higher ranked team

A guess for 20 over score is 137 runs by a commentator

before the series started, were they not placed 6th just below Pakistan

I don't know. Pakistan might have been #7 and SL after losing the series have gone below Pakistan.

But England gained few points by winning 1-2 games against NZ and then now 3 against SA to move to #4. These are/were #2 and #3 teams. SA might have been the #1 team when the series started so more points

Umpires have approached the teams dressing rooms. The game has to start by 5:38. Players are starting to loosen up. pitch has to be rolled etc

Flintoff has pads on probably going to indoor nets

Eng - 137 to win in 20 overs

The covers are off, the pitch is being swept and the latest we hear is a 5.38 pm restart with a 20-over chase. 136 to tie and 137 to win.

England should chase this they have had plenty of 20-20 practice!

The brill fielding stop by Amla before meant that prior was on strike next ball could be pivitol.

Awful Middlesex weather today but England'll probably win.

Wide called as I type.

Eng 14/1 after 1st powerplay.

Bells tried some big swipes and missed so far!

Bell hits a four and then gets out ct behind off M Morkel
Eng 19-2 after 4.3 overs - need 118 to win

Bell gets a boundary of morkel but departs next ball

19/2

Cricinfo biast.....they made a big deal of the english bowlers getting it close to 90mph...but haven't mentioned how morkel and steyn have been well over consistantly.

SA cannot afford for a catch go towards Philander. He is bowling now
Cricinfo did mention Steyn 87.9, Nel 83.4, 78 and Morkel 88.5 mph

Exactly..why mentioned those balls and not their quicker balls ?

Good tight over from Philander. Pressure building here!

Shah and KP need to just try and play normal cricket shots and runs will come.

LOL..this Shah is such a comic relief.I think its quite obvious he tries to be someone hes not..noticed that quite a bit with him actually. He shows off a bit too much..he ain't all that,i don't care what he does.

Good over for england 11 off it including two boundaries for shah

Runs now starting to leak for S.A they need another wicket!

Pietersen 17 - Shah 13
Eng 53-2 after 10 overs - need 84 to win from 60 balls @ 8.4 an over

3 consecutive fours by Pietersen off Kallis
Eng 66-2 after 10.4 overs - need 71 more to win

Shah hammers a monster 6 and thats 20 off the over...

Kallis could have just cost S.A the game!

Pietersen 40 out
Eng 93-3 after 13.4 overs - need 44 more to win from 38 balls

KP gone by damage may already have been done.

Botha strikes..

44 needed off 38 balls..

12 runs off over as Flintoff flogs morkel!

31 needed off 30 balls now..

Flintoff hammers a huge six!

England set to go 4-0 up here...

Flintoff likely to be man of match here. Bowled well and nice lil cameo here..

Game over as Flintoff gets four more..

england win by 7 wickets and lead series 4-0

180 will be decent. I don't think the england opening partnership can fire again and let's see how they do under pressure. This is such a joke because in reality England are an awful side made to look good the past few games and S.a ...a great side...looking terrible. Sanity has to prevail eventually.

:D

S.A facin 1st series whitewash since been pummelled 5-0 in Sri lanka a few years ago.

:))) :)) :D :akhtar

Man just accept it Saf have been raped by Eng. Eng have had the last laugh in the end. England didnt even field a full strength side when they lost the test series. But when they did theres been no looking back.

Let's hope the proposed tri-series goes ahead - this could be a great time for us to strike and improve our record in SA.

Pakistan have a knack of making S.a look good regardless of what woeful form they are in at times.

Pakistan can give Bermuda a strong case to apply for international status on its off day and can make the Aussies, Saffies look bedazzled on their day. But its what i like about our team, the unpredictability. The shocking and surprise element.

I remember Steve Waugh saying in an interview "If there is one side i do not want to face in a final, its Pakistan. You can plan as much as you want but you just dont know what to expect from them and how they will turn up on the ground that particular day".

We really need to strengthen our bowling over the next 6-12 months, Flintoff can't keep holding things together.

Ah yes...those were the days. Im afraid those days are over now though.

:))) Saffers got burned again.

Never thought I'd be happy at the jubilance of England, but this certainly takes the cake.

Some of the South African posters :))) :))) :)))
