Gary Kirsten steps down as Pakistan's white-ball team coach [Post Updated #17]

Well that's why I'm saying PCB should come out on the record and state clearly what the terms of the contract were, and which terms Kirsten supposedly breached. Did it stipulate Kirsten needed to spend X amount of time in Pakistan ?

If facts prove me wrong then fine, but I'm guessing PCB won't do that because there were no violations to begin with, and an unprofessional boards wants to save face with the public hence why they're leaking to journalists.
You and I have been here for years and we both know that these idiots are useless. I have always believed that We should never have appoint a Foreign coach because they are expensive and add little. But once he was appointed give him the tools to succeed and stick to the contract.

This is it, in a nutshell.

A foreign coach makes little sense when so many of the players have such poor command of English.
A similar (but reverse situation) occurred when a few foreign coaches came to the Premier League with poor command of English — it occasionally worked for a bit, but when the going got tough, it was dire. The foreign coaches in the PL now can speak and communicate with the players.

However, once you had appointed the person, agreed the terms of engagement etc then you have to give the person a decent period of time, stick to the contract etc.

Otherwise, you appear dishonest, deceitful and untrustworthy— all of which may well be true.

Yes communication becomes a huge issue.

Also lifestyle in Pakistan is not compatible for someone from SENA so they wouldn't spent enough time in the country to really get a feel for what needs to be done. Perhaps in another 10-20 years, lets see how the society develops.

any evidence to the contrary with PCB?

What a visionary Kirsten is. He saw the trash that was about to unfold. No way was he going to have another blot like USA on his CV.

@mominsaigol
I always advocated for Kristen to stay. Wasn't a fan of Gillespie though. But aqib has been terrible beyond lottery pitches so I wouldn't mind Gillespie as well.

Regardless Pakistan has botched 2 gems and killed their own cricket.

My allegations that Kirsten is a lot older than 56 are confirmed to be true. Advocating for a rubbish hack like Haris is not the working of a sound mind. He has clearly gone senile.

What a 🤡

Harris is the next Peshawar Zalmi captain. You will receive the the agenda of how to hype him up as better than AB Devilliers soon in the future by the Zalmi propaganda cells.

Namibia appoint Kirsten as consultant ahead of T20WC 2026

Former South Africa cricketer Gary Kirsten, who has a wealth of experience in his coaching career, has been appointed as a consultant for the national men's side.

Cricket Namibia announced Gary Kirsten as a consultant for their men's team. As a player, Kirsten scored 7289 Test runs and 6798 ODI runs from 101 Tests and 185 ODIs, respectively.

To add to his rich international experience as a player, Kirsten also excelled as a coach at the domestic and international level. He has been the head coach of India (who won their second ICC Men's Cricket World Cup title during his stint), South Africa, and most recently Pakistan.

His coaching expertise is also well-known in the world of franchise cricket, with the South African having coached in the renowned Indian Premier League.

Kirsten's appointment comes at a pivotal time for Namibian men's side, as they look to amp up their preparations for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

"It is indeed a privilege to work with Cricket Namibia," Kirsten told in a statement from the national governing body.

"I have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication and determination to create a high-performance cricket environment.

"Their new state-of-the-art cricket stadium is a testament to their commitment to making sure their national teams are competing with the best cricket countries in the world. Their senior men’s national team is performing well, and I look forward to adding value to their preparation for the T20 World Cup in February next year."

He will work closely with the National Men’s Head Coach, Craig Williams, providing input.

He’s going to know exactly what to do against Pakistan!

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten as the new head coach of the national men's team, effective from 15 April, 2026

Kirsten, who enjoyed a distinguished international career representing South Africa, served as the head coach of the India men's national team from 2008 to 2011 and the head coach of the South Africa men’s national team from 2011 to 2013. During his tenures with the respective teams, he guided both teams to achieve significant heights in international cricket, including India winning the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2011 and South Africa becoming the number 1 ranked team in all formats of the game during the year 2013. Kirsten’s most recent engagement was with Cricket Namibia during the concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as a ‘consultant.’ During his playing career, which spanned from 1993 to 2004, Kirsten scored a total of 14,087 runs across Test and One Day International (ODI) formats, including 21 Test centuries and 13 ODI centuries. His appointment with Sri Lanka Cricket will be for a two-year term ending on 14 April 2028. Among Kirsten’s primary responsibilities will be guiding the Sri Lanka National Men’s Team in its preparation and campaign for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be held in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. The appointment of the new head coach is part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s efforts to revamp the structure of the National High Performance Center.

Gary Kirsten on his stint as Pakistan coach:

"The thing that surprised me probably more than anything was the level of interference. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it at that level before. Did it surprise me? I don’t know but it was certainly significant."

"It’s quite difficult for a coach to come in and formulate a way to work with the players when there is constant noise from the outside. It was tough, just this continuous outside interference and a lot of punitive actions around poor performances and things like that."

"As a coach, you are the lowest-hanging fruit when the team is not doing well, so the easiest response is to get rid of the coach or place restrictions on him. In my view, that is counterproductive when teams are not performing."
