MMA to contest on 180 NA and 413 PA seats: Azeem

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami spokesman and MMA candidate from NA-135, Amirul Azeem, has said the MMA parliamentary board awarded tickets to 180 MMA candidates for National Assembly and 413 candidates for the four provincial assemblies for contesting general elections 2018 on the symbol of Book.

He said the parliamentary board having its meetings in Islamabad would take the decision of the candidates from former Fata seats today (Monday). Talking to reporters after a meeting on Sunday, he said more than seven percent female candidates would contest NA and PA seats on MMA tickets and a country-wide campaign would be launched to mobilise the women to exercise their vote.

He demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan to seek an oath from all the candidates for strict compliance of the code of ethics to prevent the hijacking of the elections through the ill-gotten wealth of the candidates.

It should be a matter of shame and concern that characters like Farooqi, Hafiz Saeed, Khadim Hussain Rizvi are involved in our political process. I was watching a video recently of a TLYR candidate who said that the party's only purpose was the protection of Khatm-e-Nabuwat - a party with a one point agenda like this really shouldn't be allowed to run.

In democracy you have to give everyone a voice so they can raise it in assemblies instead of doing it on roads. I think it's the best way to handle them by engaging them in politics and look it's been 70 years since creation but Pakistan people in majority never voted for religious party so there is no chance of them coming in to power.

I haven't got anything against established political parties like JI and JUI being part of political process (although I dislike their politics and policies immensely).

But newer parties like AAT (backed by Hafiz Saeed's candidates from MML) or TLYR are simply not equipped to be political parties and they should not be a part of our system given that their policies are founded on hate and sectarianism.

How do you think minorities in Pakistan must feel when you have parties like TYLR running for elections given some of things that Khadim Hussain Rizvi has said? This so-called man of Islam has advocated violence Ahmadis and has glorified terrorists like Tanveer Ahmad and Mumtaz Qadri.

With time they will calm down just engage them and remember it was JUI who forced Bhutto for this amendment in Constitution against Ahmedis and look where JUI stands now? I don't even remember the last time JUI said anything related to Ahmedis.

I don't think they will calm down. These parties needs to be told to drop sectarianism and hate speech or be sanctioned and banned.

The fact that our Constitution was changed to label the Ahmadi community as non Muslim was very wrong and it should have never have happened. The state has no right to interfere in such matters and has no authority to decide who is and is not a Muslim. The fact we haven't realised this yet shows how far we have to develop.

We must remember that Khatam-e-Nabuwat must not be turned into a political issue. Religion is a private matter and Pakistan can only excel as a nation when we realise that religion and politics must not be intertwined.
