Hashim Amla's Test average drops below 50

Can't . Only 5 White players. Markram and Elgar are openers, Faf is captain, Qdk is keeper and Steyn is their greatest bowler. Where will AB play?

They played 7 white players in first test against India.The 5 you mentioned and alongside it was AB and Morkel.

Yeah but they can't do that consistently. They have to play 5 on average for whole season. Might explain why AB and Morne retired s year before the world cup.

I agree that on an average it is 5 players kind of thing and hemce Amla will probably continue.

However, I dont think AB- the best SA batsmen at the moment on current form ,would be asked to retire because of this issue. If anything, Markram would be required to sit for some more time and Steyn looks done as a fast bowler, more importantly, it is the SA batting which is weak and SA needs AB much more than Steyn because they have Rabada, Ngidi and Philander in bowling department.

Its a shame player of his calibre been fading away when he should be crossing milestone after milestone... he was never a big match player and never had the that fighting spirit in him... Scored most run in easy bilaterals.. same like Abd.

Amla will retire as an ATG.He is already an ATG.So much consistent across all formats.,both home and away.Those who are levelling his career as combination of purple patch and mediocricy ,i am in doubt about their knowledge of cricket.Amla is just having an off form.Purple patch is only a brief period of high scoring.Amla has been scoring heavily for a long time,except in recent times which isn't a purple patch at all.He averaged 50 plus in both ODIs and tests until recently.I think and hope he will cover up his test average soon.

He is just like Cook, a decent player who had a great purple patch. But just decent in the overall scheme, a south african great but not for the entire cricket world.
