He avgs 42 @ SR 78..

Has done well in World Cups and scored runs overseas too and won matches in SA,NZ and England.

Nothing special till 2011-12, but an ATG in his last 3-4 years.

Very very good batsmen..

His career comprises of two halves- An absolutely mediocre player till 2009 and pretty much up there with the very best in business between 2009-2015...

Has performed in 2011 WC, 2013 CT and was the best batsmen in the show in 2015 WC.

His away performance has been very good too.

Hundreds vs Eng in Eng, Nz in Nz and SA in SA all in the winning cause.

He also scored 100s vs Eng and Aus in the World Cup played in Australia.

In odis away from Asia, Sangakkara has much more impact with bat than both Dhoni and Kohli.

Kohli
Dhoni
de Villiers
Dilshan
Sangakkara

Top 5 ODI batsmen of the post 2010 era.

Will take de Villiers and Sangakkara both over Dhoni anyday in odis..

Dhoni has absolutely no impact away from Asia.

Has failed to win his team a single match outside Asia vs non-Asian teams or even Pakistan for that instance.

An absolute failure outside Asia excluding the minnows, SL and WI.

Post 2010, Sanga the ODI bat was damn good and impactful.

I think the innings he played against India in 2009, chasing 414, kickstarted his ODI career. He was like 90(40). Watched that match live. Never thought he could play an innings like that. That innings is etched in my memory forever. Sehwag's blistering 140, Dilshan's 160, Sanga's 90 at a ridiculous strike rate, India winning the game from nowhere in the end. Great moments.

As others have said post 2010 he was very impactful and did enough to go down as an atg. He was so consistent.

No suprise Lankan LO team has declined massively since his retirement.

Special player post 2010

Before that he was like 35@75

Was this at the start of the streak of 200 matches in a 2-3 year span India and Sri Lanka subsequently went to play against each other :))

Yes.

Played each other continuously and in all conditions from India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England to even West Indies and lots of 20-20 game in between too.

Better than Kallis, not quite as good as Viv and Kohli, a little lower than Tendy, Ponting, ABDV and Lara, and arguably slightly better than Amla.

His final years were absolutely top-class. His final WC series in particular eradicated from my memory the swashbuckling Sri Lankan ODIers of the 1990s (DeSilva, Ranatunga etc). Sanga became the complete ODI package and surpassed them all.

Thankfully those days are behind us. For now.

I think he's considerably lower than Sachin, Lara and Ponting mainly because of the time he cashed on in compared to the other 3 I mentioned.

Still he did managed to be impactful and was comparable to the very best in business in 2010s also being the leading run scorer in WC 15.

Btw how would you compare him with Lara?

Lara in 90s vs Sanga between 09-15

Lara in 2000s vs Sanga in 2000s

Also their world cup and other records in odis?

That's true. One could argue that his final years blinded us to how average his first ten years were. He has two match winning tons vs a strong bowling attack in England, but generally dodged great bowlers.

He's a hard guy to rate. He transformed himself so hugely in both tests and ODIs, but you feel like he was never really tested.

People are forgetting that he almost always kept wickets in ODIs. Even in his worst years, 35@75 was a respectable record. Post 2010, he was as good as Tendulkar, Ponting, Lara, etc.
