So its happened and now the ball is in the court of the PCB.

From news reports we know that they are putting on a brave face although they must be seething inside.

What should they have done?

After the experience SL had in 2009 PCB cannot really say or do much about SL players refusing to tour Pakistan.

However Sri Lankan board has been very reasonable and said the following:

"I can completely understand that for players who were actually there during the attack - like Lakmal - why they would be reluctant," the SLC official said. "But we have to help our Asian neighbours. Soon after the Easter Attacks this year, Pakistan sent an Under-19 team to Sri Lanka. We're not trying to risk anyone's life, but we do have obligations and there needs to be reciprocation. The security situation in Pakistan has improved a lot."

Pakistan has helped them by sending U19 team so SL board understand and appreciate that, which is good to see.

Arrange rowdy crowds to egg the sri lankan players in UAE when they play them there next. And be like: "If you were in Pakistan you wouldn't have gotten egged".

Just accept their D side and continue to build on the successful matches in Pakistan

Just cancel the tour. Knowing Misbah is the selector and head coach he will select an experience team against SL C/D sides and we will not gain anything. Players like Hafeez, Sarfraz, Azhar, Umar or Kamran will feast and torment our team for 2023 World Cup.

Tough for one for PCB. They have made such a big deal of international cricket coming home theme - now to refuse an international side will look silly.

You can’t blame SL players for that since they were indirectly affected by 2009 attacks. They barely got away. If something happened to them, it will be on Pakistan’s head.

As for compensation, Pakistan needs to remember that Sri Lanka wasn’t there when Pakistan needed them. So the future will be decided based on that. Time to move on for now.

Its a lose lose situation for Pakistan. Neither they can deny, nor they will gain anything with this series.

Infact this will deteriorate big team chances of touring Pakistan in future...

PCB can't do much, which is sad reality, shouldn't do much and I have to say most of the blame goes to PCB itself. No, I am talking about the March '09 incident (that was the root cause, but it's more than 10 years since), rather PCB themselves went through the compromised route when they allowed International players to opt out of PSL games in PAK.

PCB can't get it both ways - allow players in PSL without committing to come to PAK (So, that PSL brand/broadcasting value doesn't suffer), and then react at International boards/players' unwillingness to visit/tour PAK.

PCB has to solve it the tough way - first make sure that every player that participates in PSL (even Steve Smith), MUST unconditionally agree to play in PAK, obviously, subject to security situation. If it's with "phattichar" players, so it be - a phattichar PSL is better than a phattichar touring team making the mockery of a cricket series.

Second - the tougher job, make sure that the PSL is held entirely in PAK and without much incidences, unless there is a nuclear war. Couple bombs blasting here an there isn't a big deal these days anywhere, but PCB's security system must have to be functional enough not to allow few goons target practicing at the International team bus in the heart of PAK's top Metro City.

Third, and this is where I would expect WK & E Mani to deliver better than previous ******* - don't blame any board and don't accuse any one else for this situation. That'll only isolate PAK more, SLCB has been a fantastic supporter for PCB, PAK cricket and they maintain a healthy relation with every cricket board despite their internal politics - which allowed SRL to host every team in 90s & 2000s, despite suffering one of the fiercest, deadly civil war.

Fourth - every International series has a purpose. Host SRL (whichever squad they send) with proper dignity, arrange sufficient security measures and play the games with proper spirit. You only can play against whom are there and those players who have agreed to come deserve respect, should be treated like that. This is first proper series in PAK after more than a decade and a little progress towards the ultimate goal.

Something is better than nothing.

Any player refusing to tour Pakistan should NEVER be picked for the PSL.

How do we not gain anything? These games will also gets added onto the long list of matches that went down safely in Pakistan.

I agree. At this point, the people of Pakistan have missed cricket for so long they will come just to watch mostly their stars play.

I think PCB shouldn't do anything. Just let SL team come and have a successful tournament. These things take time; rushing won't help.

In principle I agree wiht you, in reality we can't compromise quality of PSL. Although if PSL is held in Pakistan, then none of these guys will come anyway and as such be removed from squads.

It's fine. It doesn't matter if the TOP SL players come or some weaker guys come. It will still send a good message if this tour with weakened squad goes off smoothly. It's not like it would mean Pakistan is any less safe would ít? This isn't a big deal imo

It is still a win-win situation. There's no point dreading things which are not in our hands. What is in though, is to win matches. We need to focus on starting the season on a winning note and continue that with the series in the UAE.

No compromise at all.

This is the only way some of these cricketers will learn.

I understand your sentiment. However personal safety is a very high priority for everyone. I can't fault a player for pulling out if they aren't satisfied. As for PSL, again if it is held in Pakistan then I expect these players to not participate anyway so no issue. If they do want to participate then I do hope PSL blocks it. If we hold PSL in UAE then I don't see the reason to block their participation.

Most of the time it's the family of the cricketer who refuse.
I don't think we should punish the cricketer because of that.
But we really need to look at ways to bring the senior players to pak

Board has to act professionally, still should be thankful to SL Board for agreeing to tour and making it possible. Treat the touring players well, not compromising to security but let them enjoy the trip as much as they can.

Its a big step forward, things will keep getting better from here.

Cancel the tour. There is no point in playing Sri Lanka B like we'll be when their first team isn't that great!

One of the saddest things to realize is that certain people are just not who they used to be, that people you once considered best friends are now, at best, strangers.

But the same family said Pakistan was ok when he was playing PSL and for the World XI.

He came back with a bag full of money... now he didn’t get the opportunity, so the player refused.

Harsh reality.

Was watcing CPL the other day and Thisara was playing. T20 franchise players are paid per availability. So if he is recalled extra money he'd earn from CPL will be gone. Not sure how much SL players get paid but loss from CPL salary will be a lot surely. On going CPL may play a role in him backing out of Pakistan.
