"I wasn’t forced to convert to Islam as some have alleged" : Mohammad Yousuf

One of the most complete batsmen Pakistan ever produced and out of that generation of Inzy and YK, Yousuf was the best across all formats.

In terms of tests only, YK probably trumps due to his clutch innings but both are the two greatest test batsmen for Pakistan.

Look at those shots - pure class, all round the wicket, front foot, back foot - and most effortless too. Travesty that his career was curtailed due to trying to find a career for Misbah.

I shudder to think the mountain of runs he would have racked up in the UAE
his career curtailed because of his own lack of fitness. Misbah worked hard to earn and keep his spot in the team. Yousuf didnt.

Who needs fitness when you have that ability?

Misbah needed fitness cos he had little else

you need fitness to play out a 50 over game, you need fitness to prolong your career, you need fitness so that you dont end up retiring or stop playing by the age of 30.

Yousuf didn't had the fitness to play a game. Once he got injured during the south africa series the guy gave up. His attitude was that just because he was a senior pakistani batsman, he didnt need to play domestic cricket. Hence, his fitness went down aswell. Just cause you end up scoring most runs in 2005, doesnt mean that you will play on the basis of that in 2012. He had no domestic games on his belt after 2010 to be given a go.

This is why you need fitness, so that you can make a comeback and play. Yousuf didnt had that, and wasted his career in the end. A could have been legend......

He is still a legend and fitness doesn’t really matter for batsmen. Look at history and you’ll see some seriously unfit players scoring serious amount of runs.

Classy, brilliant timer of the ball and lovely to watch.

He was like a magician waving a wand when at his best.

There will be very few batters ever like him.

does he make the all time test 11?

For me he does not make it just barely.

To me, it would be a tossup between Inzi and Moyo, but to me, MoYo eeks through because of the crazy form he had in his last few years prior to retiring:

  1. Hanif Mohammad
  2. Saeed Anwar / Imam-Ul Haq
  3. Zaheer Abbas
  4. Javed Miandad
  5. MoYo
  6. Younis Khan
  7. Rizwan
  8. Imran Khan
  9. Wasim Akram
  10. Abdul Qadir
  11. Waqar Younis

Some would say Zaheer, youhana ( In comparison) scored softer runs than javed , inzi and younis khan . I would agree with that statement . So those three have to be in. Haniff played in such a different era that I don’t think he would be able to compete now. I think babar when he ends his career will the greatest batsman Pakistan produced. He has to be in and the only spot he can take is opener.
So
1: babar
2: anwar
3: yonis ( he can’t come much lower)
4: miandad
5: inzi ( perfect spot for him)
6 youhana/ majid ( can bowl and open pushing babar dow)/ Wasim raja( bowls) and was a great bat. Much much better than his average / if playing in England zaheer
7:rizwan
8: imran khan
9: wasim akram
10:Waqar younis
11: qadir

Have said this many times. Him and Inzi were over rated. These guys did nothing in world cups icc tournaments and especially in sena.
Home track bullies

If u just go by specific stats. Wasim raja had one fo the best averages against the windies at their peak in the world. Should he take that final spot?? He bowled leg spin also.

I think the last spot has to go to a batsman who could also bowl. So majid and raja. So youhana would miss out. Would other people here also add babar in place of hanif

Can you post same inzi stats

A grand total of 1 century in 120 international innings against Australia and South Africa combined, in Tests and ODI’s.

The mentor of Mohammad Yousuf in the path of light has passed away. May Allah make things easier for him.

Inspirational story. If he’s hadn’t been messed about by the PCB he would have gone down as the greatest pak batsman after Javed

He is extremely underrated by the younger fans. A much better batsman than these fans today think.

He was a better batsman than Younis Khan across formats, and Younis was a great Test player. When they played together, Yousuf almost always proved to be the better batsman in both Tests and ODIs.

Yousuf at one point looked set to break almost all major Pakistan batting records in both Tests and ODIs, but his career never really recovered after 2007 when he got into a tussle with the PCB for being left out from the T20 WC squad.

Yousuf had an ego. He believed that because he was a senior player in pakistan, he can just decide not to show up for domestic games and only play international ones. That destroyed his career

Younis has his faults, but Younis still at the eod showed up for domestic cricket and played for Habib Bank. Guys like Shan Masood benefitted in domestic games with Younis presence there.

Senior players have a role, and that role is not to only score runs but help the youngsters out aswell whether its international or domestic cricket.

During the 2010 england series, Pakistans batting was a big joke, as batting for a whole day was an impossible task. When they invited Yousuf back and he batted with Azhar Ali, that one innings helped Azhar cement his place into the test team for the next few years as Yousuf guided him in that partnership.

We tend to discuss Younis Khans ego, but Yousufs ego was more massive and it lead to his career coming to an end.

I respect Younis for showing up not only in domestic games but for his club games aswell

One of Pakistan's three most stylish batsmen, along with Zaheer Abbas and Saeed Anwar
