ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2026 - Discussion thread [From January 15 - February 06]

Good start for Ireland U19 chasing 248 against Japan U19. They are 59/1 after 10 overs.

Not a great start for South Africa U19 chasing 235 against West Indies U19 as they are 41/3 after 10 overs.

Not sure how true this is

Pakistan’s U19 won a crucial match today against Zimbabwe in the U19 WC to qualify for the next round. However there is some more Genius stuff to it 🤩

Pakistani team was cruising at 66/1 in 10. However, they slowed down to chase the remaing 63 runs in 16.2 overs and there is a smart reason behind that. The decision not to finish the chase too early was a technical and calculated move. As per the U19 World Cup rules, teams carry forward both points and Net Run Rate only against the teams that qualify with them to the next round.

This means that if Zimbabwe qualifies alongside Pakistan, this result and its NRR will be carried forward into the Super Six stage; however, if Scotland qualifies instead, then Pakistan’s earlier match and NRR against Scotland will be carried forward. That’s why NRR management in this game was important, not just winning, but winning smartly, as these numbers can directly impact Pakistan’s chances later in the tournament. Now Pak and Zim qualified for the next round, and Scotland are out of the U19 World Cup 🫣😅

The Mastermind behind this Smart move was ofcourse SARFARAZ AHMED

It's true and well done to the team for considering this.

But I find it difficult to believe Safraz was responsible lol

Given Bangladesh's Islamist mindset, I wouldn't be surprised if Bangladesh asks its Under-19 team to withdraw from the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup.
:klopp :kp

Let's not forget Shahid Anwar is the head-coach. I think alot of people even think that Sarfraz is the coach because of the media attention he gets.

This might be the case in Super Sixes:

England NRR (Excluding Scotland) = +1.562
Pakistan NRR (Excluding Scotland) = +0.870
Zimbabwe NRR (Excluding Scotland = -2.916

SL19 39/7 ... very impressive bowling by Aussie kids - wonder what happened to them against Japan !!!

So if NZ win against Ind tomorrow then we won't play India unless we reach the finals, we will play NZ and BD. If Ind win tomorrow then we play Ind and NZ.

Talking about Pakistan, I think....

Doesn't matter TBH. Pakistan's batting is gonna cost them the game against any opposition.

This tournament 's format is farcical. 3 out of 4 go to next round. LOL.

Why not go back to past format? That was more practical.

Well bowled Ramanujan Sukumar Ambrish! -4-29 vs NZ, liked his pace and willing ness to pitch it up!

Neither of them Ayush and Vaibhav should be playing at this level. This is absolute carnage. In ancitipation of rain they are racing away to the total

Vaibhav and Ayush absolutely don't respect these bowlers. It often leads to errors. Their mindset will be tuned at the highest level. At this point. There is no guidance. They just go out there and bat like T10 without realizing other younger members may not handle pressure.

So in super -6 india will play against Zimbabwe and pakistan.

India and England both have 4 points, Pakistan -2 , Afghanistan, nz -1 .

So india and England need just one win to reach in the semi-final.

In other group, Australia and Afghanistan have 4 pts which mean they also need a win the reach in semi.

Most likely semifinalist - India vs Afghanistan , Australia vs England.

:kp

Australia U19 vs South Africa U19, 1st Match, Super Six Group 1

Australia U19 have won the toss and have opted to field

West Indies U19 vs Ireland U19, 2nd Match, Super Six Group 1

West Indies U19 have won the toss and have opted to bat

2 uncle teams waiting for us.

South Africa and Ireland are officially eliminated.

Australia are almost through to the semi.

Based on how things are going, these 4 teams may qualify for the semi --> Australia, India, England, Afghanistan.

Very farcical and confusing format. Another farcical tournament from BCCICC. :inti

Looks like we may see Australia vs India in the final (with Aussies winning it).

Shame Banglas didn't cry wolf when their O19's won the cup a few years ago...what a sad hypocritical bunch of fans...

Zimbabwe U19 vs India U19, 6th Match, Super Six Group 2

Zimbabwe U19 have won the toss and have opted to field

Must say mightily impressed with Ramanujan Sukumar Ambrish...dude pitches it up at pace, has a good surprise bouncer and is a thinking bowler...he's one guy who has really developed in the last few months...

Don't think Pak can qualify for the semis. Looks difficult. If I'm not wrong, they would need NZ to beat England by a big margin and then win against India by a decent margin as well. Improbable.

Never say never.

Pakistan just have to beat India and hope the other result go their way. That's all they can do.

The tournament has been a farce anyway.

They don't JUST have to beat India. There is NRR as well.

And this tournament has been great.

Bangladesh have been a farce though as always.

Why do you bring up Bangladesh? Thread is not about Bangladesh. I am not a blind nationalist like you sanghis. :inti

Tournament has been a farce with an absolutely trashy format. No question about it. :inti

If Pakistan beat India and NZ beat England by a good margin, Pakistan are through due to superior NRR. I thought it didn't need to be spelled out. :inti
