Would be interesting to see how these 5 play in the world cup and who scores the most.

Kohli has gotten off to an average start but one would expect him to bounce back strongly against the Aussies.

Babar has had a decent tournament so far but I feel his best is yet to come.

Root is having a great tournament. It's early days but he could be the leading run scorer of this world cup.

Steve Smith played a very good innings in his first game and it would be really interesting to see how he performs in this tournament.

Williamson has been a bit of a disappointment. His strike rate is a big concern nowadays.

I am not saying the leading run scorer will be one amongst the five that I have mentioned,it could very well be Rohit,Shikhar,Warner,Buttler, Bairstow,Guptil,De Kock, etc.
This thread is made to have a look at how these 5 perform in the world cup.

As it stands today

Joe Root leading the pack mentioned in the topic

Williamson has been pretty subpar considering opposition he has faced.

Good thread but inclusion of Babar azam among the other 4 looks a bit forceful

So far Root is the best with that brilliant hundred. Even his first match fifty was very good after the loss of an early wicket.

Babar Azam has missed out on Sri Lanka. 🤨

Jos Buttler should also be in the reckoning.. I think he is going to be one of the stand-outs in this World cup..

Second Century for Joe Root in the World Cup. He makes it look so easy when he is batting out there. One of the contenders for the player of the Tournament if England goes all the way to the finals...

For one thing England play all matches without rain. Also they play on the most batsman friendly surface with no pressure. They are going to end up being the top run getters. Do they have anything called MVP? People are here to watch top contests. Boult vs Kohli contest missed. Rabada vs West Indies contest gone.

People need to go remind themselves how likes of Williamson and root did in their first world cups.
They were rubbish

So you mean to say Babar will improve his next WC?

Okay I will bookmark this for next 04 years.

Long way to go for soft lad to reach KW’s level.

Wouldn't mind seeing Babar Azam become a batsman like Kane Williamson. He can do it, just needs to step up a bit more and he can reach that level.

I would be concerned if any 23 year old didn't improve as they play more.
From what I have read and tried to find out about him is that he has the right work ethic , so when u out these 2 things together...

The fab 4 are well ahead of Babar. Only in PP is he talked about as being good as Root and Smith.

Babar is our best bat but he needs to win more games against the top teams in ODIs and tests before being better than the fab 4.

Babar's name along side the FAB 4 is a joke at this point. By WC 2023, it may well be fab 5 with Azam being added to the list. His time will come, today he is not anywhere close to any FAB.

Player-inn-runs-avg-sr

I'd say Kane leading the way at the moment out of these 4.

I have made it very clear in this thread but let me say it again. You can go and read the last line of this thread :)

Babar has had an average tournament so far.I saw one of his interviews in which he himself admitted that his performances have not been satisfactory.
A very important game coming up for Babar tomorrow, probably the most important of this tournament. If the ball swings tomorrow and Pakistan find themselves one down early then it would be a fascinating battle between Boult and Babar.

As I had said in my previous post I was really looking forward to see Babar play today.A wicket was down early. He won his battle against Boult and won the game for Pakistan.
What a knock Babar!!!
One of the best of the tournament for me!!

Performance of fab Four in this World Cup 2019

So, what do you think who has been the best performer in this World Cup between the fab four and how would you rank them?

Mine would be:-

Williamson
Kohli
Root
Smith

What's yours? Discuss!

Williamson
Root
Kohli
Smith

Since PP have been questioning Smith and Kohli I fully expect them to play clutch knocks later in the tournament.

Very nice to see babar wandering around the top of the run scorer chart in just his first world cup.

Root hasn't been that good. His inning vs India was a poor quality one and he failed vs Australia also. He is not a hitter but then you would expect him to see off a chase like Williamson had done. Think Kohli is better with 5 fifties in 6 games he played.

Kohli's innings were all meaningful. Played a major role in the win. Even y day until he was around It was India's match to lose. With just 2 main batsmen, he was able to maintain the strike rate of 96.22 which is pretty impressive. Lot of singles, twos. Less dot balls.

Just 3 matches to go and except Babar all other players still have opportunities to score more runs.
Barring Steve Smith, all other batsmen played top cricket in this tournament.
Babar is getting very close to that fab 4 now.

1.Williamson(Avg- 96,480 runs)
2.Root/Kohli( Avg- 62/63, 500/463 runs)

4.Smith(Avg- 32, 294 runs)
