ICC World Cup 2023: Australia (388) win a high-scoring encounter against New Zealand (383/9) by 5 runs

They can sometimes actually, if Bavuma again gets injured and Reeza opens;

…but this is insane - I’m sure even this Aussie pair won’t match it in 10 other tries - today is Kiwis bad day.
Reeza Hendricks is more of an accumulator, though (not much different from Bavuma). Only QDK is explosive at the top for them.

Warner is an all-time great as well. He deserves to be mentioned alongwith the Fab 4 of batting in last 15 years.

Kiwis have lost their mind - absolutely no way they are going to contain with short staff, even at 170km. Bowl pitched-up and close to body, Aussies are not comfortable in hitting on front foot. They’ll still hit boundaries & sixes, but in the V and chances are there they’ll mid time few. Bowling short & trying to force them on back-foot - NO CHANCE
Yeah Boult had moderate success with that, fullish bowling.

Back-foot short stuff is getting massacred.

It is 1.47 am here and I am wide awake watching this match. After the IND v PAK this is the first match I am watching live and I do not regret it.

At 1 am when the match began I thought of watching the first 3 overs and go to bed - but damn these Aussies.
Being it is friday night it is okay. I can sleep during day.

It’s 10.49 PM here (better than other games where I have to wake in the middle of the night to catch some game of Cricket😅)

What 🔥🔥 attacking cricket by Australia.. They are back to their prime at the right time.
As i indian, im afraid to face them in knockouts.
🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Same here. Too much Adrenalin to sleep now.

Marsh bison is still sitting in the dugout. Imagine if he gets going there's no stopping Aussies before 400

Interesting fact:

Highest T20I team total is 314/3

Nepal vs Mongolia T20I match in China.

Not sure what you've been watching - Rohit has been extremely destructive in this format of the game.
Has he though? Against full strength attacks. I doubt It. In bilaterals sure. Substandard attacks but no in a ko game of a world cup.

Despite their dominance in power batting, surprisingly Aussies have suffered some of the biggest successful chases in ODI - that 437; I have seen SAF chasing twice 370+, India chasing 362/1 in 40 overs; PAK 350+/2in 45…. In 1979 WSC, at MCG, Viv chased 275+ in 40+! overs in those days; and PAK chased 275 at WACA in 1987 under lights - till then second highest successful chase there was <140…

Already off spinner that too part time one is being effective. This is basic match up they should have tried a lot earlier

This brutal hitting reminds of Jaysurya- Kaluwitharnas who scored 175-0 in 15 overs in a match played in Singapore

Finally they are pushing the ball fuller … but horse is bolted already - even run a ball from here on takes it to 360+

Why would they go at run a ball. Bison can do the same damage as these guys. On a good day Maxwell can do as well

They have always been a bat first side from memory. Were never a great chasing side.

This is not a tiny NZ ground . Straight boundaries are almost as long as MCG boundary 76 meter.

Maybe it looks like a small boundary on my TV. Especially the straight ones. Not that it would have mattered the way the Aussies are smoking those sixes.

Warner and Rohit are in their own league 🔥
They are better ODI and t20 players than all fab 4 batsman barring great Kohli

In this WC he has shown how dangerous he can be without converting or dominating.

In the last WC he scores 5 centuries batting similarly.

His status in this format is unquestioned in my eyes.

I hope Ahmedabad curator makes an absolute flatter for ENG v OZ

This wicket is not that flat and NZ actually have good bowlers.

Cant wait to watch this lineup against Willey and Woakes :klopp

NZ have matches vs Pakistan and South Africa left. Both the oppositions have history of blockbuster games. Who else they have?

No bro, Aussies have chased some memorable games as well - 280+ a Joburg in 93-4; a WC eliminator in 1999, a WC QF in 1996, a 315 chase at Lahore …. few more I can’t recall.

They are extremely competitive & die hard fighter, makes it chasing against them difficult, but they chase well also. But yes, definitely a bat first team.

Guys, Please stay on the topic of the thread. No need to discuss any other team here. Stick to the Australia vs New Zealand game.

Yeah Lahore chase was World record at that time .

But teams should never ask them to bat first . They only have a chance if OZ are asked to chase 300 +.
