Rohit’s opening over destruction of Boult will remain in Indian fans’ memories for ever. Like Sehwag’s takedown of Gul in the 2011 semi. These are brave souls who put themselves on the line for the team, to set the tone and demoralise the opposition. What a day to be an Indian cricket fan.

Rohit

India 100 in 12 overs, New Zealand’s fastest bowler getting tonked for sixes.

Still we were Only scored 260 .so here need a partnership to build a foundation

Pitch is even bounce and has bounce for the quicks, not shooting and keeping low. The NZ fielding is top class and has saved 10 + already...
And Gill gets 50....awesome achievement for the young guy on a semifinals big stage

Well played 50 by Gill in a crunch match. A deserved no. 1 ODI player who plays when needed the most. I remember he played good knock against Pakistan too in the u19 WC SF. Hope he carries on to play a similar one tonight.

Greatest , most selfless Indian ODI batsman I have ever seen. Slaughtered Boult and Santner upfront without a thought for personal milestones.

Pitch has true bounce. You can get wickets but you need to be accurate. Tests skills.

Good pitch.

You can also play brilliant shots. As you can trust the bounce. A bit like gabba but not as spongy

Still with this no 1 drama 💀.

Gill is not no 1. Kohli is yes

Gill is already in the mood. Kohli needs to play the anchor role here; there's no need to rush for boundaries.

How did he get out? Dint watch. Did he go for big shots or something

Santner has to bowl better. There is some turn on offer. Good pitch for the spinners.

Also if the ground was bigger this pitch would be like Aussie pitch tbh

Tried to hit a well disguised slower one , scooped in air...good running catch by William ka beta...overall good change of pace from bowler did hitman in...

Boult tends to do good on such pitches. But it's Rohit who takes on the good length deliveries from the frontline pacers and messes up their lines for the rest of the match. Really the MVP for team India.
Shami would do good here as well.

The number one player stamped his authority.

Seems like that is the role he has given himself. Be very attacking at take all the risks. Not really thinking about staying out and looking for a big score.

You need to be really brave and skilful to pull that off the way he does. He took that role because he can. No one else in this lineup can do what he's doing.

Calling a youngster overrated who is outperforming everyone?
Let him fail for god's sake.
Overrated as in people calling him no 1 in the world because of an icc rank.

Not because he's a bad player. I already know gill and ravindra will lead the next era of batting.

Also Gill isn't put performing everyone. Ravindra is better, quinton > etc.

Rohit has cemented his status as a legendary odi player after this knocm

It’s all India at the moment

NZ need to do something to restrict this total which will cross 400 at them moment

Yeah gill is another flat track bully like babar he got exposed in test final and westindies tour badly.
I would'nt say flat track bully, but yes i would say he does have weaknesses against the swinging ball and also top quality spin.
But his game is made for bouncy wickets of Aus / SAF / Jamaica/barbadoes type of wickets.
He has a higher grip, plays tall - does not have a default forward defensive push, relies a lot on his reach...his game is very much like Greg Chappell, Zahir Abbas, Mo Azhar, Damien Martyn, Stefhen Fleming kind of players....

Still young and with the right attitude, coaching and foresight, no reason he cannot improve....

2011: Sehwag did the hard work by burying the opposition strike bowler, Sachin got all the credit
2015 : Bazz Mac did the hard work by burying the opposition strike bowler, Elliot got all the credit
2023 : Rohit did the hard work by burying the opposition strike bowler, Gill/Kohli about to get all the credit?

True they haven't been discipline enough. Definitely missed Matt Henry control
Agree. Henry has been the most dangerous against India of all the NZ bowlers. Southee is way past his prime and Ferguson is like a bowling machine.

It makes sense now. So it wasn't boult or southee that troubled india in 2019 and t20. It was Henry. I terestinf. A right arm bowler.

You need to be really brave and skilful to pull that off the way he does. He took that role because he can. No one else in this lineup can do what he's doing.
The reason he can do that is because he is one of the most imperious pullers of the ball. He stands outside the crease still pulls for six. So the margin for error is less for bowlers.

Santner is damn good on such pitches for some reason. Despite the 6 from Gill.

I think that was first boundary against mitchell santa....till now he has bowled beautifuly and is the real threat so far

Outside topic but I agree with whoever said we need to organise a wrist spin camp. Boot camp. We need to develop 2 wristies for Pakistan. Like santner who can also bat.

Gill is taking on Santnar, this is how you unravel an established bowler and change the line and length.

Santner is damn good on such pitches for some reason. Despite the 6 from Gill.
Watch his release. He pauses briefly for a second or two to see if batsmen move or not. Actually fakher didn't move. That is why he thrashed him. Batsmen shouldn't move

I still think the way to beat India is to go with 5 pacers and just 1 spinner. Like 3 main bowlers like southee boult fergie or Henry if fit
Then Neesham as 4th option and also add Jamieson. Just have one spinner. But it's risky
As it elongates the tail.

This is looking ominous for NZ. They lost more than half the match at the toss itself. I guess the best NZ can do is to restrict India below 350 and then hope dew comes aplenty. If there isn't any dew, even if they survive the new ball, Jadejs and Kuldeep will eat them alive. The pitch is spinning.
