ICC World Cup 2023: South Africa (382/5) beat Bangladesh (233 all out) by 149 runs

Toss plays a big part in cricket. Anyone else thinks the toss should be best of 3 in cricket??? Make it fair!

So far this world cup toss loss helped team more than toss wins. At wankhede defending total is near impossible. BD should have restricted them and chased.

I am not salty about BD at all, just the way matey typed it with exclamations sounds a rather arrogant, which would have been fine if BD cricket could back it up with actions.

BD the country's lovely, nothing against it.
 
Afghanistan future looks brighter than BD. with a few better pacers. A replacement for Nabbi, they will be going places with their spinners and now batting decent too. For me they just lack pace depth. I reckon they’ll win asia cup before BD.
 
Wankede is the worse place for BD to play SA. Then again all the wickets flat for icc events, it wouldnt make difference if bd had more matches at Kolkata!
 
Bangladesh should hang their heads in shame. 25 years of spoon-feeding and this is what they come up with.

Afghanistan smoked them in a test tour of Bangladesh not long ago. A team without a home and ravaged by the Taliban.

Bangladesh aren't made for sport.

Neither the players, nor the fans.
 
Gulf between BD and SA is far and wide on these tracks. Bd relies on slow and low tracks. Last year in chattagoram track Kishan made 210 and India made 400. They had no answer. They have to play more on such tracks and get used to putting up bigger scores.
 
Imagine South Africa's NRR after this game.

SA just have to reach 12 points. No need to worry about NRR any longer probably.
 
Pakistan must be all confused what to do against SA. SA bat first and potentially a huge score ll be on the board which Pakistan can't chase down, and if SA bats second then going by Afghan game which ll be running in their heads, SA could chase it down with ease.

Only way Pak has any chance is to bat first, put up 300+ and then put SA under pressure by early quick wickets (big if). SA crumbled chasing against Netherlands so it could sure repeat against Pakistan.

Bangladesh did much better in 2019 World Cup, even made quarters in 2015. Why have they regressed so much despite a booming economy and financially well to do cricket board? Maybe they should play less in Mirpur, their cricket isn't really improving by playing in that venue which has no equal in the world.
 
SA when batting first on true surfaces is close to unbeatable at this point.

They really aren't all that likeable tbh. India may like them now but when they actually start competing with them at equal footing, they will show their true colours.
 
I think, after todays game, the SF lineup is finalised (almost): IND, SAF, NZ through; Aussies have easier fixture (BD, AFG, NED, ENG & NZ) - so they are through as well.

It’s 1-4, 2-3 SF, means most likely IND- AUS; SAF-NZ …. Like 2015; though finalists might be opposite this time.

Karma has hit back. They ganged up, conspired against Tamim who is the best opener ever produced by BD, well experienced and equipped to play any pace and spin. They treated such a bd legend such manner to not pick him. Captain gave interview after tamim saga where he looked unbothered and was blaming Tamim not batting for the team where team wants when Tamim has opened all his life. And as if they got better openers to replace experienced Tamim Iqbal.

yeah, i agree with Tamim. Not only is he a quality bat, he is very humble and relatively non-controversial. I think his good manners have been taken for granted to sideline him. Just few years back there was so much hope and expectations of this team and they have fallen back so much. If you cannot compete against the best team in Indian conditions and in your best format where else will they do? They are not going to be well settled in 2025 when the champions trophy comes along and 2031 is eight years away.

I am not from India. I am a Bangladeshi.

I like Afghans. They have a good relation with BD players. Even BD fans don't have a problem with them.

lol, tosses have had no impact on this tournament. More teams have lost matches after winning tosses than the other way around. Stop giving excuses. Irrespective of tosses, pitches, you need to have the skills to make use of whatever advantages you may have been provided due to pitches and tosses. BD just lacks skills, doesn't matter what. If they were allowed to bat first, they would have huffed and puffed to 280 at most. While chasing no one is expecting them to win the match against a very good bowling team. What is stopping them from putting up a good fight by getting a 300 for eg? SL gave away even more and they came back and smashed 300+ against the same team. It was entertaining to watch. This is so boring and so out of leagues kind of contest
 
Sa middle order on flat pitches are simply brutal.

Spin will be dispatched.

Pace and bounce is the only way to get rid of Miller and klaasen. Also markram.

India and maybe nz can halt them.

Aus bowling is overrated.

Indian wickets aren’t the same anymore there’s bounce and carry now which BD arent used to because of the poor planing in BD by bcb led by Papon. All issues is in the grassroots.
 
Incredible hitting. You can say small stadium, small boundaries, no spinner etc. But blasting their way to such a total above 350 is ridiculous. Unreal hitting.

Mustafizur is overrated too slow. Zero bounce.

Islam looks to have some talent but he hasn't mastered death

Young fella was unfortunate. Again pace and bounce is lacking.

Bowling dint bowl all that bad, SA's hitting ability was just too much. Bangladesh shouldn't be disheartened. They blasted Australia too with relative ease.

They are south Africans. They would have seen pace and bounce. I think Nz will go well with SA because they use the match ups well.
 
Nasum is just a blind slogger. Hit two 4s just get off strike give it to mahmudullah. Top to bottom all lack any batting sense
 
Mahmudullah only batsman from bd who can hold an end, reassured. On the bouncier pace wickets Mahmdullah does decent like the 2015 wc, CT 17. Maybe BD need to bring Mahmudullah at 3 and stop the collapse!!!

Delhi too.
Dharmashala offers swing and some bounce

South zone seems to be more spin friendly.
Chennai
Bangalore can be a mix of everything

Ahmedabad seems spin friendly

Pune has bounce.

Nha man. Sa players struggle in general vs bounce and pace. Spin on flat pitches won't faze them. They grew up on such pitches sure, doesn't mean they excel vs pace and bounce. Top bowlers who can extract life on flat wickets and bowl into their body will do damage anywhere. That's exactly what they struggle against.
 
Theyll say these things to feel better. ‘At least we didnt concede 399 like England did and scored more than England, playing against SA.

Given the current standing (after SA win over BD), SA also has one leg in semis. NZ and Aus are next contenders while Pakistan has three major challenges and their current standing is below 4 so the likely two who are almost there are India and South Africa.
 
Really want Mahmudullah to get the 50 and beyond. They mistreated him from odis last many series making pathetic excuses. In t20s he deserved to get axed but in ODi’s he has plenty more left to give. Cant buy experience and bd had no better replacement!

Maybe the need for Mahmudullah to bat higher for the reminder of this cwc. Someone able to negate the pace and bounce early on, hold an end!

Y couldn't England make use of bounce at Wankhede??
SA have done well in India with their fast bowlers
I've been watching since 1996 and first time I saw them struggle was around 2015 when India decided to prepare ultra spin decks and open the bowling with Ashwin

Sunny Ji is echoing what Ive been saying. Mahmudullah should be batting up the order with his experience showing the young guns how its done in big tournaments

These 2 were great exponents of reverse swing

And Pollock did well as he had phenomenal accuracy and played vs much weaker indian sides. Same as Donald.

Only steyn played vs tough indian teams.

Rabada was dreadful in India.

In tests that is.

Why couldn't fast bowlers from other countries do well when India were supposedly weak?
I always liked how SA kept faith in their own strength when they played on pitches that were not renowned to help pacers.
They had capacity to take the pitch out of equation
 
Riyad should just play shots now running out of partners. See if he can get a ton!

Even just before the WC Shakib criticized Mahmudullah scoring 40 in a recent game saying he didnt bat well

Shakib didnt like the Mushfiq/Mahmudullah/Tamim trio in recent times

Lol all three tosses will be independent events. Its not like best of 3 match series where players affect the outcome.
Probability of winning each toss remains 1/2. No external factors involved

Shakib has been more bad than good for BD cricket. With his ego, superstar mentality (with absolutely nothing to show for as at team), temper tantrums, greed for power (captaincy), hand general toxicity, he will probably leave BD cricket in a worse trajectory than what he found when came to international cricket.

South African bowlers have trouble in wrapping up the tail, that is their main weakness.

Maybe Andile Phehlukwayo will be better suited for these types of pitches

This innings will give Bangladesh something to take forward into the next match and beyond. Some sort of positives. It can lift the team morale somewhat, as one of the batsmen getting ton.
 
End of one of the most useless innings. Going at 100 SR when target is 150+ SR and then celebrating as if he won the match. Minnow mentality

BD are done with most of the big teams (India, NZ, England, and South Africa).

They now have Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Pakistan, and Australia. Netherlands and Sri Lanka should be relatively easier.
