Does make a point! Not many men Asian or not would do that.

Did this involve missing a match he ought to have been playing?

Most western husbands are Joru ka Ghulam anyways, western society is a women dominated society. Sub continent is a men dominated one:afridi

Just did a google search and apparently it was a match against South Africa in a dead rubber in the ODI series. Australia have already lost on their own turf so I think it might even be a case of fragile Aussie manhood unable to cope with defeat.

Or maybe he wanted to sport his wife in a big game like she would do for him! Why is it such an issue

I said before even knowing which match he missed that it wouldn't be an important game and I was right. Aussies had already lost the series 2-0, if it was 1-1 do you really think he would have cut and run?

i wouldn't do that.

you have different roles. professional and personal. I'll make sure that my professional life doesn't cause disruption in personal life and vice versa. Fights are already happening with my fiance over this but i believe these fights are somewhat necessary and she can decide whether she can cope with it or not as it will be there in day to day life.

I think so, don't men go when partners are in labour etc. They have back up bowlers so I don't think.it would habe been an issue

are you equating medical emergency with a professional event?

They have back up bowlers for a dead rubber. You can only really know if he would have sacrificed a game if it had been an important one, which it wasn't.

That said, I do think it was good for him to support his wife's big day if you remove all context. You would expect him to be there if there was no Australia match, which effectively for him, there wasn't.

Not sure what all these liberal brown aunties have against asian men..... bibi asian men itnay hi boray lagtay hain tou kisi goray se shaadi kar lehti na.

I am sure there's a protocol in Aussie team for such events. Starc must have asked for personal leave (I think players are entitled for it?) And he got the leave.

Why bringing all desi men in tweets? If Sania has issues with her relatives or people around her she should take it up with them rather than bringing in 1.5 billion people and stereotyping them all.

Starc is actually lucky that he is enough of a superstar that he can pick and choose which matches he can play in, would a youngster in line for his first cap be able to do the same? There is the missing context.

Lol right they never want to let go of an opportunity to take digs at SC Men :))

Always have to make a comment about how Great Western Men are compared to Chauvinistic and Uncouth Asian men.

Well to be fair, we western men are superior.

It would have done wonders for the PCT if Sania was participating in some tournament during WC19 and Malik would have skipped WC to watch her play, no one would have even complained.

Why call Asian man? Why drag Chinese and Japs and other real Asians into this :))

Sania should have said Subcontinent and Middle Eastern men.

I think the definition of Asians is being from Asia. So everyone one of those is Real Asians

You also need to read what Langer said: this was once in a life-time occasion, playing final at home and the series Starc was playing in was already lost and they needed to look at his workload as he was playing non-stop accross all formats this Aussie summer.

So if you look at all this and then understand what Starc did, it was nothing big. He basically went back home earlier rather than being 12th man in a dead rubber. This is making mountains of a molehills.

Sania Mirza doesn't need go further than this thread!

Healy and Strac are like the first couple (if you can have such a thing) of Australian cricket how often do you have a couple playing at the highest level in one sport (a fair few across different sports).

I agree with Sania on this, but so true lol

Team management would have never allowed such a key player to miss out in a World Cup match.

Yeah and western world is way ahead of the SC one.. what does that prove lol.

Starc missed a ODI to watch his wife play in a WC final, good for him, its not a policy that western men have to follow. There is no pressure for any man to do the same or to do it differently, its just what Starc wanted to do, others can do as they please.

People are reacting as if Starc himself posted that tweet. I am sure he wouldn't have left that tour in the middle if it was a series decider. And I am sure even his wife would have advised him not to skip that match.

Sania on the other hand is also right. Some fans(pak and ind) in the past have called Shoaib Malik Mr Mirza, joru ka ghulam and what not. :inti

Considering this was a bilateral series and it was also a dead rubber game, I think Starc had a good reason to skip the game. But, I doubt he would've skipped it if stakes were higher.

After the incident with Steve Smith and David Warner I'm just glad the acu is headed in the right direction
Let's not forget Glenn mcgrath and how much he's done for breast cancer

Do you know for sure he wouldn't? I would like to think if she was in a final he would be there to support her.

I guess no can can say for certain but I highly doubt he would have skipped an ashes or World Cup game. Anyways why would his wife who is a professional cricketer herself, want him to miss an Ashes test or WC game?

Most of the time the matches don't clash so there will always be an opportunity plus as it will be probably be her last final (talks of her retiring are circling). Good on him and CA for allowing him time off.

Nothing to do with joru ka ghulam or anything, but I think he should have stayed with his team regardless if it was a dead rubber or not. Robert, Gilly

I do sort of agree with Sania that Shoaib would have got called Joru ka Ghulam, but that's partly because of you have got an Indian sports celeb marrying a Pakistani one in the first place. There's no way desis are going to let that ride without some well placed trolling.

This term always reminds of the Govinda song
“ Main to joru ka Ghulam banke rahoonga” lol

There will be people that think he should have played and some that dont. Its not a wrong or right situation but simply that was the decision at that time. It does not mean that from now on players with a wife playing in a final will miss a match, that will be a different decision at a different time. Its a huge non issue for me.

India tennis star Sania Mirza on Thursday opened up on her ‘joru ka ghulaam’ tweet that went viral during the Women’s T20 World Cup final in March. India were playing Australia in the final - and Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc had missed an ODI match to come and watch his wife and women’s cricket star Alyssa Healy play in the title clash.

As Starc was receiving widespread applause for showing support to Healy, Mirza had tweeted: “Sure thing !! God forbid it would be a guy from the subcontinent, the guy would be called a ‘joru ka ghulaam’ in one second. good on you Mitchell. couple goals for sure!! (sic).”

On being asked about the tweet during a video interaction with India women cricket stars Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana on their Youtube chat show “Double Trouble”, Sania said that women are considered as distraction by the society. “It (Tweet on Starc) was funny because me and Anushka probably relate to this the most. I think whenever our husbands perform, it’s because of them, whenever they don’t perform it’s because of us. I don’t know how that works,” she said.

“We are saying it as a joke but I think there is a much deeper issue. The deeper issue is that a woman can always be a distraction and not a strength. That’s a cultural issue we have to deal with. Oh ‘if your girlfriend is there or your wife is there, he must be distracted because he is going out for dinner’. That doesn’t even make any sense,” she added.

“When he (Starc) went back to his wife to watch the World Cup final and everybody was hailing him. I truly felt... I was trying to just picture Shoaib doing that for me... hell would have broken loose if that would have happened. They would have said... he is such a joru ka ghulam... he is going and watching a women’s cricket match. I just felt it. I feel humour sometimes brings the truth out,” she further said.

Men are bound by dharma to lead women. Sometimes they have to be harsh but it is only for the benefit of a woman
