What's new

India [119/1] defeat South Africa [118] by nine wickets in 2nd ODI, lead series 2-0

What if it rains now and no more play is possible. Will it be awarded as no-result as the minimum of 20 overs are not bowled? Who will take responsibility for this? WHy didnt the Indian batsmen finish the game quick? WHy Why WHy

Just as records are made to be broken, the rules too are made to be broken on certain situations.
Someone file a petition suing #icc in international court against this farce.

Conspiracy theory: This is a conspiracy to let SA have the moral victory.

Damn it. That is an angle worth pondering.

THE Standard Bank Proteas had no answer to the skills and guile of the Indian wrist spinners as they lost 9 wickets for 67 runs to succumb to a 9-wicket defeat in the second Momentum ODI at SuperSport Park on Sunday.

The entire match lasted less than 53 overs as the Proteas were bowled out for 118 runs – the lowest ever total in an ODI at this venue – and India then cantered to victory with the match only going a couple of overs past the lunch interval.

Man of the Match Yuzvendra Chahal took 5/22 in 8.2 overs and he was well backed up by Kuldeep Yadav (3/20 in 6 overs).

The only partnerships of any note for the Proteas came from Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock who put on 39 for the first wicket and JP Duminy and new cap Khaya Zondo who added 48 for the fifth wicket.

When it came to India’s turn to bat Shikhar Dhawan (51 not out for 56 balls, 9 fours) and Virat Kohli (46 not out off 50 balls, 4 fours and a six) shared an unbroken stand of 93 for the second wicket to take their side to victory.

The third ODI takes place at PPC Newlands on Wednesday.

What a win. I think, IND is the first team to find nd the clue of “modern” batting in ODI - this is the worst era of spin play in the history of game, at least since 1900s, and sides having 2/3 wicket taking genuine spinners in middle overs (& batsmen who can counter that) should dominate ODI game.

Unless SAF prepares low scoring green seemers, on 300+ dry wicket, those 20 overs of Kuldeep & Chahal will beat them every time. May be one game slogging will work & Kok, Miller... will post 372 batting first, but that’s about it.

I was watching SRL-BD ODI game and first change I noticed, instead of 3/4 spin all-rounders, Hathura went for couple of specialist spinners and that should be way forward for every team.
