India (150 & 487/6d) beat Australia (104 & 238) by 295 runs in the 1st Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

strange pitch. some balls shoot off the pitch
some are too low

bowling short does not work here as much. bowling at chest maybe.
and also channel balls that move away seem to be the best option.

until we are 250/1 or 2, i am not confident. we need 350 maybe
I am more confident in their aggressive approach than handling the second new ball. We can collapse from 250/2 to 300 all out.

150 all out in first innings and 150 - 0 in 3rd. How much of it pitch changing and how much of it is good batting

Jaiswal should get his century today, into the Sehwag mode vs spin.

They've just turned the difficulty all the way down this innings. Can't afford to lose this now

One thing is for sure, Aussies have been right on money with ball in hand. Just that these 2 are so good in this innings

This is now a legit ATG opening stand in Australian by visitors

We are seeing history

First 150+ opening stand by a visiting team in Australia since 159 by Andrew Strauss & Alastair Cook at the MCG in 2010 and the first outside Ashes Tests since 191 by Sunil Gavaskar & Kris Srikkanth at the SCG in 1986.

short ball never hurts rahul. he is good vs short stuff. in swing is what he struggles with

Cummins has become a pretty hittable bowler since Feb 2023.

Economy before that - 2.71
Since - 3.56

Accuracy and pace is down from his past standards.

This is high quality test batting. Rahul in particular has been immaculate. A control percentage of 90 and very neat in his technique.

What a day for INDIA this. Total domination

Day 2: Stumps - India lead by 218 runs

AUS 104
IND 150 & 172/0 (57) CRR: 3.02

Absolutely phenomenal stuff from Rahul And Jaiswal. Let this not be taken for granted. This is a historic opening stand and has actually overshadowed Bumrah’s performance. It’s just rare for visiting teams to be 172/0 in Australia. Just rare stuff. Hats off to both openers for inspiring the whole nation. We are proud of you.

This feels more like what Hayden and Langer used to do to opponents here.

Australia won first 2 sessions of this test. In the next 4, it's all us.

He was attacked quite alot in the 2023 ashes . Averaged 37 with the ball in the 6 tests he played in England last year.

Was ok in NZ this year but was comfortably outbowled by Hazlewood, Henry, Sears etc.

He doesn't look like the best test seamer in the world anymore, white ball cricket has definitely taken its toll on him.

India looking good but to do well in this series, need more support.

Also, KL need to become a bit more consistent. Always starts a series well.

Began in BGT in India. Averaged 40 with the ball and only picked 3 wickets in the 2 Tests he played

He was batting pretty well in the 1st innings too
Agreed. The ball was moving around a lot more making his control look poorer but his patience, choice of leave vs. play and commitment to either choice was there. Very compact even compared to Jaiswal who's been tempted and flashed at a few wide ones.

I think the Aussies are a bit knackered. Winning the World Cup and WTC, not winning the Ashes has probably affected them going forward on Tests too

This was proper test match batting unlike what we saw from Rohit sharma in the recent series who was playing T10 cricket. India lost because of his disasterous batting, captaincy, fielding. One guy caused a whitewash with a bit of help from his buddy.

Yes I agree. Gambhir is a poor test coach and Rohit seems a poor test captain. Unnecessary overemphasis on agression and intent over clarity and playing to the occasion.

IND vs AUS, 1st Test Day 2: Yashasvi Jaiswal-KL Rahul Put India On Top With 172-Run Stand

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a composed unbeaten 90 and KL Rahul a stylish 62 Saturday as India built an ominous 218-run lead over Australia to take a stranglehold on the opening Test in Perth.

A determined and gritty effort by both men against a world-class attack put the visitors in the driving seat as they look to draw first blood in the five-match series.

Jaiswal faced 193 balls while Rahul fended off 153 to steer India to 172 without loss at the close on day two.

India have won their last two Border-Gavaskar trophy series in Australia but came into the Perth Stadium clash after a devastating 3-0 home loss to New Zealand.

After making a miserly 150 on a lively pitch in their first innings, the pressure was again on. But their response proved admirable.

They took a 46-run advantage into the second innings after dismissing the hosts for a meagre 104 at lunch, with dynamic skipper Jasprit Bumrah blitzing 5-30.

Young gun Jaiswal, just 22 and in his 15th Test, failed to score in his first knock and began tentatively before a boundary off Mitchell Starc settled him.

Batting alongside the more experienced Rahul, who was playing in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, they were resolute against the new ball on a pitch more placid than the treacherous one that greeted the players on Friday.

Both ran well between the wicket and cracked anything loose to the boundary, playing their shots as their confidence grew.

With the ball not moving nearly as much, Australia were in dire need of some inspiration, but it failed to come as the partnership flourished.

Left-hander Jaiswal brought up his ninth Test half-century off 123 balls, slapping Nathan Lyon for a single.

He had a let-off on 52 when attempting a drive off Starc, with the ball flying to Usman Khawaja at second slip, but he failed to take a difficult chance.

The elegant Rahul also had a scare, surviving a run-out on 42.

But he regrouped to reach his 16th half-century in his 54th Test, taking one more ball than Jaiswal, and with those landmarks reached they began playing more freely.

After an astonishing 17 wickets fell on a chaotic opening day, Australia resumed on 67-7 and put on 37 thanks to a dogged last wicket holdout.

They reached three figures courtesy of Starc and Josh Hazlewood, with their 25-run stand the longest of the Australian innings.

Bumrah was India’s chief destroyer with his 11th five-wicket haul in Tests. Harshit Rana chipped in with 3-48.

Home hopes rested on Alex Carey as he began on 19, but after nudging two from Rana he came up against an irrepressible Bumrah.

Coming round the wicket, the Indian captain made Carey play and he nicked to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

Nathan Lyon (5) did well to hang around for 16 fiery balls before gloving a short one from Rana to Rahul in the slips.

That brought Hazlewood to the crease and it seemed only a matter of time before India were batting again.

But he and Starc gamely stuck around, bringing up the 100 to huge cheers from the crowd.

It was an intelligent innings by Starc, who doggedly faced 112 balls and protected Hazlewood to add crucial extra runs before holing out Rana to Pant on 26.

Once the wicket has flattened out, YES. Seam and swing conditions proved my point about t20 specialists
If you have seen how the great Tendulkar and co batted in nz in seaming conditions then you would be shocked. Seaming pitches where conditions are conducive to swing is tough for everyone.

I think the Aussies are a bit knackered. Winning the World Cup and WTC, not winning the Ashes has probably affected them going forward on Tests too

Probably. After that Ashes they looked good against PAK and NZ only. But those 2 teams are eternal bunnies of the Aussies , so hard to say.

Yea they are paying the consequences of not giving a chance to any young seamer.
Playing them in all 3 formats in every game was never a good idea.

I've seen ample Games of Tendulkar batting in England against quality seamers. He was class

The likes of Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins, Lyons have failed against India in Australia in test matches for 3 series in a row in the last 6 years. It is madness from the Australian selectors to expect the same bowling attack to bring a different result. The bowlers clearly looked scarred mentally

Take a gamble and bring some fresh unscarred bowlers into the mix.

Honestly rohit should not be allowed back.its the problem of having an about to retire washed up player playing as captain. Due to him kohli is also hogging the place

Great test match batting. Very impressive from Jaiswal. Here to stay.

With Rohit, Gill and Shami set to come in, where does that leave the team selection for the next test? Padikal, Jurel and Siraj make way I guess. But where do Rohit and Gill bat. Not sure if this opening pair should be broken up. Perhaps Rohit at 3 and Gill at 4, Pant 5.

Australia need to rethink their bowling attack. Get at least one new bowler in and rotate rest time between Starc and Hazlewood. Or even Marsh. They also need results from Marnus.

Starc in particular needs to be replaced, India have owned Starc, he averages 38 in the last 12 tests vs India, has to be replaced.
Cummins' test form has declined as result of white ball cricket, the Australian bowling isn't looking as near threatening as its been hyped to be.
