Even I have a tape of Kuldeep's variations. No worries. They all have the tapes and have already watched it. There are two reasons for NZ's loss today. Incorrect assessment that it's a 300 pitch is number 1. Shami's spell is No.2. I expect it to be competetive but will change my assessment from 3-2 NZ win to 3-2 India win

Absolutely brilliant by India, they have all the basis covered. Only England stands between them and the World Cup. Either of these two teams winning the trophy would be great for the game. They richly deserve the position they are in.

Didn't this Rayudu get injured in the last game against Aus a couple of days ago? How the heck he got picked today and they benched Karthik for this dud? Now this 12 runs will do more bad than good and we might not even see Gill in the playing 11..

And the majority of that was from one country.

It's misleading, cricket is not a global sport but is only big as it is because the second largest country in the world by population is obsessed with it.

Basketball, tennis, rugby etc. are actually bigger sports as they're followed and played in many more countries.

Their middle order is suspect...

Come a crunch game, I'd back England (provided they don't choke), Aus (will come good once Smith and Warner are back) and Pakistan (get the feeling they have the wood over this team after the CT Final, it'll be India who is under the pump come a big match after that match) to beat them.

Rayudu is still a weaklink. Middle order is not sorter yet.

No team is perfect. India’s middle-order is weak but England have a pop gun attack.

India has the best top 3 in the world including the best individual batsman, the best fast bowler in the world as well as the best ODI spinner. That is more than enough to make up for its shaky middle-order.

India has proved that they are a GUN ODI unit. We all watch sport because any team can win on a given day. But I'd back India against any team except for Eng.

USA,China,Russia and most of the European nations don't care about it

Football,Tennis,Atheltics are the only 3 Truely global sports
Rest of them are only limited to some group of nations or famous only in one continent

They're definitely one of the top 2 teams in the world atm, I just don't trust them against those teams. You're asking on your top 3 to fire in high pressure teams against the best teams in the world. I can't see it, if I'm putting money on it, I'm backing those teams to win just because of that extremely weak middle order.

Yes we saw the “wood” in the Asia Cup. The Champions Trophy Final was an off day and Indian cricket has moved on.

They are mentally too strong to have nightmares of losing a final to an inferior team on a day when nothing went their way.

Their was a lot of talk of how the Champions Trophy Final will scar them and how it will give this new Pakistan side confidence for the future, but all that talk was squashed when a Kohli-less India thumped Pakistan in back to back games in the Asia Cup.

India will beat Pakistan 8/10 times with ease. The gulf is too big for any demons or past memories to make a difference.

Pakistan has never won a WC match against India, and lost both matches against India's B team in the Asia cup by heavy margins, but India will be the one under pressure against them? Sound logic.

Put them in a high pressure crunch game with that middle order and it's on.
 
Rayudu would be a rock for Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the middle-order, but he does not fit the profile of an Indian batsman.

He is very solid, but unfortunately he could not kick on from a time where he was dubbed as India’s next great batsman.

Indians call it a weak middle order. That's because they are comparing it to their top 3. Except for Rayudu, this team can chase 270 without much contribution from top 3. Their bowling usually restricta the teams to less than 270. Indians want to be like England and score 350. India doesn't need to because Indian bowling is better than England's. Pakistan can blow hot or cold and can win on their day. They were blown away by India to two biggest losses in history sans Kohli. Australia hasn't been a good ODI team for a while. England is the only team that can beat this Indian team consistently. Indians are clutch too and they have an edge over England in clutch situations. I'm not considering one off games like CT final. It's possible it can happen again but they are always the exceptions and not the norm

Pakistan is mentally weak, and the chances of us crumbling in a pressure game are much higher. Their is a reason why even our more fancied teams have failed to beat India in World Cups.

If one Indian batsman in the top three fires, they will win more often than not. The chances of all of them failing against Pakistan yet again on a given day are quite low.

That's Just 6 European Nations
3 of them are part of UK

Point here is that the comeption is just among 8-9 nations which is similar to cricket
Only 4 nations have won Rugby World Cup till now

The no of major countries in both Cricket and Rugby are same

No one in NZ thinks NZ has a chance in the WC, that's why no one is talking about their chances. We're there to make up the numbers. The best this team can do is a SF, they're missing a clutch player who we can rely on and collectively aren't strong enough to make up for it.

The weight of expectations are on the ABs, with fans wanting three-peat of RWCs. It's going to be difficult this year as the team is not as strong as previous tournaments and there are a couple of teams capable of beating them.

It doesn't matter if majority Europe play or not.. to be a true global sport you have to be big in Asia and South America and American region as well. Which rugby is not.

Only true global sport is football, tennis and to an extent athletics.. Other than that no sport is global.

You're talking about continents, when rugby is played at a higher level in more countries than cricket.

It's difficult for cricket to compete with it because it's a lot longer, is more complicated and requires more equipment.

Punching above their weight = making up the numbers.

SA, SL, WI, Bangladesh and us will just be there to make up the numbers this year, we wont be real contenders.

Contenders are Eng, Aus, India and Pakistan, I'm certain one of those 4 will win.

That is because Europe is full of smaller countries.. It doesn't make it global just because it's played Europe.. You need to understand countries like china, America, India , Russia are so huge in themselves that for any sport to be truly global has to be popular in such countries which rugby is not.

So in short my original post still stands only global sport is tennis, athletics, football. To an extent boxing can also be considered a global sport however it misses the dedicated fan following and viewership like the other sports.

Why are you comparing rugby with cricket? Cricket is itself not a global sport so your comparison is moot we are talking about global sports here aren't we?

Cricket has a niche market.. The market it has cricket js the only sport in majority of that market which in terms of number (population) is a bigger market than any other non global sports..

Cricket is not global however its market is bigger than almost every other non global sport.. I would assume it's the same with Table tennis or badminton which is a big sport in China.. They don't need to make it truly global since the market size is bigger than smaller countries.
 
India has a bigger population that any continent (except Asia). So if a game is popular in India, one can say that it is more popular than all the countries of a continent (say Europe) combined.

Premier Kabaddi league, the league of an Indian game called Kabaddi (which is popular in India and some neighbouring countries) has a bigger TV viewership than the viewerships of many "global" sports. The game is not popular in China, but Chinese companies are the major sponsors for this league.
 
New Zealand have been thrashed left, right, and centre by a Bumrah-less India. I think it is a fair result in all honesty. NZ is a team dependent on a single decent batsman and a couple of good fast bowlers. Nothing more, nothing less. Their commentators are fun though - ultra-patriotic reminiscent of Mike Haysman from SA lol.

Pakistan always crushed the Kiwis like play toys until last year. Even during our tough times between 2010-2015 which coincided NZ's best years under McCullum, we always challenged them in NZ, let alone in our home games.
 
Cricket is a major sport not just in India but whole of south Asia with combined population of more then 1.6 billion people
Now that is big by any standards

theres no such thing as richly deserve in sports.
playing bilateral and winning is different and winning tournament need all together different skill and mindset but looking at format of this world cup it will be difficult to stop india and england because there wont be escape for team like pakistan i know they have won with same format but that team was formidable and made up of legends. only the best team can win this wc and that as you said england or India .

The awkward moment when even Indian fans feel embarrassed by some praising their team - maybe a lesson to be learnt there when trying "too hard".
 
What is the purpose of Rayadu and Shankar in the team? This guy is tundling at 120 KMP. This would have been a great time to bleed in some youngsters. Typical Indian attitude where old men don't know when their time is up and wont move out for young people. We have 60 year old guys playing the part of 25 YO in movies.

What's wrong with Shankar, he has been asked to bowl twice he has done well both times, Shaun tait bowled 150 didn't stop him from being smashed everywhere, pace isn't really much of a factor especially if you are bowling as a 5th option who isn't going to bowl more 5-6 overs.

I don't know much about him, so I was wondering what was his role in the team. Is he a batting all rounder or bowling all rounder? His bowling didn't look nothing special, no movement, no line and length and no speed.

Yes. He is more a batsman than a bowler. But he is doing okay so far. But you always sense he is going to be thrashed around at any moment. He is a desperate fill in for Pandya as India doesn't have that much of medium pace all rounder
 
I don’t expect the rest of the matches to be this one sided as both are pretty competitive teams.

Surprised that Neesham wasn’t selected by NZ.

He will be exposed in world cup. Doesn't have much variety in his arsenal when going gets tough.

Don't you get that ominous feeling when ball leaves his hand? As it reaches batter at speed of a typical Pakistani pacer, you just know it is going disappear from the stadium.

It's even worse when it does not happen. Suspense for that eventual hammering intensifies!

We hardly have any all rounders. All our batsmen don't bowl, bowlers can't bat. Let's not discourage the ones trying.
 
I think so many people are obsessed about India's performance in CT final. They dont find anything and keep going back :)

I think they should grow up.

Just because pakistan last performed then doesnt mean world has stopped now and nothing else is happening. They just keep harping that may be for the next 10 years!

I support his inclusion. He has done good with 'A' team. It's just that he has clearly lost some pace. Not that he was a speedster before.
 
England started in similar fashion in t20s against us. By the time the ODIs came they got used to the spinners and beat us comfortably in the last 2 ODIs. Our middle order couldn't even deliver against weak English bowling attack. Kiwi batting has quality and bowling is much better. Can't afford to be complacent.

In a high scoring game, he will be thrashed. At this point, India is counting on him for 5 overs with Jadav bowling the rest. What if one of the pacers has an off day? Can't rely on this guy to bowl 10 overs of 125 and a slower ball at 120

From what I seen, he bowled well in all fairness. However, he was lucky that Guptill and Munro was out quickly.
