Zimbabwe seem demoralized after their defeat against BD. That was evident during their game against Netherlands.

India should get a convincing win.

Melbourne and Adelaide. Fav hunting grounds for the Indians. Expect them to do well vs Zim without issues. Adelaide vs Eng would be tricky with those tiny side boundaries.

A Zim with high spirits is still Zim. They were under pressure after the Pak game as there was a chance to be in semis. Now they are back to being pressure free. But the skills and experience matter at the end.

Pant over DK
Chahal over Ashwin
Hooda over Axar

These three changes makes the team strong for these conditions in my opinion.

G has been a friendly venue for India when they face neutral teams. Played 8 won 6. Last loss at this venue to neutral team was back in 1986. In 2015 india beat SA and BD. This time beat Pakistan

Zimbabwe haven't visited India for a bilateral series in 20 years. BCCI make up for it by sending a second string side over every once in a while. They won't do so tomorrow, with World Cup qualification at stake in front of a packed MCG.These two sides haven't met in a T20I since 2016 and haven't played each other in a T20 World Cup before. Excellent Muzarabani can target India's top-order early. Rohit Sharma for one, has survived past the PowerPlay only once in four games so far.

Weather forecast for sunday in Melbourne

BOM AUS - 30% chance of rain, 12-25c temp

Beat Zimbabwe and India will be through to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The equation is that simple.

Rohit Sharma’s side could effectively already be through to the final four before a ball is bowled in Sunday’s late fixture at the MCG in Melbourne.

The other four teams in Group 2 all play earlier in the day in a double-header in Adelaide, meaning that India will know precisely the situation in the group even before their fifth and final Super 12 match.

Those permutations only come into play if India lose. Win and they will be heading to a semi-final against England in Adelaide.

However, Zimbabwe’s win over Pakistan earlier in the tournament shows that it is no foregone conclusion that India will waltz to a win in Sunday’s conclusion of the Super 12.

“We know no team is a push-over, you will have to still go in there, counter the early pace with the bat and still bowl good balls to be able to generate pressure,” Ravichandran Ashwin told reporters on Saturday.

“It's a must-win contest. We know that. Like in every other contest in this T20 World Cup, it's a must-win encounter.

“So, we are looking forward to the game. Zimbabwe has played some wonderful cricket, so we can't go in there and expect them to crumble. They bowled well and batted well, so we expect that.”

Zimbabwe’s loss to Netherlands last time out has denied them an opportunity to push for a semi-final spot, but victory would have the benefit of securing a top-four group finish and therefore automatic qualification for the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

But more than anything, beating the giants of India would be historic as a standalone moment for a team who’ve shown real class in the tournament to-date.

"With the win against Pakistan, it's given us a huge amount of belief that we can beat any side in the tournament," Zimbabwe’s Craig Ervine said on Saturday.

"I don't think that will change going into tomorrow's game.

"How often do you get the opportunity to put Virat Kohli in your pocket? I'm pretty sure that our fast bowlers will be raring to go come tomorrow.”

Predicted Playing XIs

Zimbabwe: Craig Ervine (c), Regis Chakabva (wk), Wesley Madhevere, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Milton Shumba, Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Richard Ngarava, Tendai Chatara, Blessing Muzarabani

India: Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh

Key Players

Sikandar Raza: The veteran all-rounder has played match-defining roles in all of Zimbabwe's wins in this T20 World Cup. He scored an unbeaten 82 against Ireland and then scored a match-winning 40 against Scotland, while remaining unbeaten once again. But he went one better, picking up three wickets in a stunning spell to turn the game and set Zimbabwe on a path to their famous win over Pakistan. If there is to be a shock result then Raza is likely to be key.

Suryakumar Yadav: The middle-order batter has been in excellent form in this format ever since his debut last year, climbing to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings. Overall, Yadav has amassed 1209 T20I runs at an excellent average of 40.30 and a sensational strike rate of 177.27.

Pant should definitely play this game. And so should Hooda ,Harshal and Chahal. 4 bowlers + Pandya/Hooda should be enough for Zimbabwe batting lineup. Need to bolster the batting..

Come on Zimbabwe! We promise, we'll send the real Mr Bean! :yk

Heard it’s a sell out. The Indian fans have been a saving grace for what otherwise has been a pretty poorly attended ‘World Cup’.

Indians are jam packed in Australia, the big numbers make sense unlike their counterparts in England, NZ, US, and Canada.

India are through . The current match will decide who they'll face. Predicted their team lifting the cup months ago, but it still hurts :-(. Kidding. All the best neighbors. You are my second go to team after Pakistan.

Rohit Sharma calls heads, and it's heads. India will bat first.

India 1 KL Rahul, 2 Rohit Sharma (capt), 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 Rishabh Pant (wk), 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Axar Patel, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Arshdeep Singh.

Zimbabwe 1 Wessly Madhevere, 2 Craig Ervine (capt), 3 Regis Chakabva (wk), 4 Sean Williams, 5 Sikandar Raza, 6 Tony Munyonga, 7 Ryan Burl, 8 Tendai Chatara, 9 Richard Ngarava, 10 Wellington Masakadza, 11 Blessing Muzarabani.

I would rather face NZ than England. So want India to win today.

Come on India. Win this and play England!

Big opportunity missed by Zimbabwe they would have been on 7 points if they won vs BD and Dutch

After this WC, we should break this opening pair, useless KL, Rohit is out of touch, looking terrible at the moment.

We will not go past semis so it's been Pak, Eng now the title

i hope india win but only just and they get very scarred by the game
that way we get NZ and hopefully the low confidence will make them lose against eng

Decides who you face - us or England.

Personally hope you lose, rather face India than Pakistan.

Doesnt really matter, both England and NZ are strong sides...not really much to choose between them.

Lol no, England are a better than NZ, allthoug NZ have been good so far.

the good thing for us is we have played eng and NZ a lot just recently

That is what people say before every ICC tournament, and NZ invariably end up making the finals. They raise their game in these situations and India does not have a good record against them in recent years. So, it will be a tough opposition for India, no matter who they face.

Rohit should stop pulling every shot ball. The square boundaries are just too big.

Semi final is the biggest challenge for us.

Pakistan will most likely beat NZ and Eng either of them as they have their numbers in knockouts.

However,if India manages to go past the semifinal route, then Pakistan will not be a major challenge to deal with, we will smash them comfortably. :inti

Yes and Pak are winning that even if Babar one hand is tied to the knott. Their challenge is against England or India.

Not at all. Every game at SCG has been about winning toss, batting first and scoring that 185 odd and winning it.

Whoever wins toss will win :inti

every match india batting innings has 19 overs and 9 wickets. rahul with mandatory maiden to start and rohit the walking wicket in this WC.

I hope India wins this. It would be very cruel for Netherlands if they don’t.

That six off Burl reminded me of a young Mark Boucher. He used to play slog sweeps off spinners but used to play them straight over long on sometimes.

Smashed Saqi in 99 World Cup iirc.

What happened to South Africa today? :91: :inti

Quota system hurt them. They accused their best players of racist selections even though it was purely on merit and to get the combinations right, no wonder they decide to leave early and here we go ..SA losing to a minnow in a must win game lol :)))

KL Rahul performing today..means he will get out cheaply in semi final :facepalm

if surya & Pandya lasts till the end , Ind will make 200

Stick to India and Zim in this thread

Great batting by the most overrated player in the world

A temporary setback for India in the middle overs, after the great start they had in the first phase of the innings. This match has amply highlighted the weakness of the Indian batsman barring Yadav to force the pace against the spinners.

It is rather surprising, as Indians were historically known to be the best players of spin bowling. Even the likes of Kohli and Sharma has played against the cunning Lankan spinners a decade back on slow Lankan turners a decade back. They played Murali with relative ease, destroyed the likes of Mendis and Herath after a few initial hiccups. How has it come to this ? When did things start going wrong ?

Certainly the likes of Maharaj, Rashid, Shamsi, Zampa aren't remotely as good as Murali. Why do they continue to be circumspect against spinners in LOIs ?
