What's new

India [204/4] beat New Zealand [203/5] by 6 wickets in the first T20I to take 1-0 series lead

This is the second time we haven't been able to defend a 200+ score here.

Fielding cost us tonight.

Iyer's problem is guys who can really hit the 145k mark, everything else he can handle.

I still can't believe why selectors dropped Iyer after South Africa tour,he should have been there at World Cup at no 4.

I stand corrected on Shreyas Iyer. He is good in T20s, at least on batting pitches.

Shreyas Iyer the new talent we desperately needed (a reliable middle order bat, who don't want to escape from there and go the top order!) And he is also our future captain! Now I believe it...

He thrashed Starc like gully bowler in the last match

I didn’t see any of that series...
But from what I saw today the bloke plays proper cricketing strokes and more importantly he has a brilliant mentality.... to see his side home like that was excellent.

Really enjoyed his batting

Slogged so hard in domestic. Poor guy didn't get picked. But they decided to pick 3 wicket keepers instead of Iyer.

Quite proud.

NZ has been our bully in LOI cricket o er the years. Every win in their den is quite special and in a way like this is even more exciting.

Batting was outstanding .

Starc was trash that day, if a 145k bowler bowls wicket to wicket to iyer with a little bit at his body, iyer can't do much. Let him face likes of ferguson here, then see how he plays.

Ferguson lol He faces Rabada in the nets. I don't think that is his problem. Your first goal is to identify someone who can thrash regular bowling not someone who can play 145k at an angle. Sure Pujara can play. Can we take him? This is one dayer. everybody is hittable.

This is why you give a player like iyer a long rope. Hope our thick tank took note and don't give him the feeling that he's always on borrowed time when he's out there like pant. For the rest of the series we don't need sharma, kohli, bumrah etc to play actually give the others chances. That stat which manjrekar mentioned in the last australia odi was damning that apart from the 3 of dhawan, kohli and r sharma the only one to get most number of games is rayudu at #4 with 14 games and he is a long way off those 3 in terms of numbers.

Indian team bench strength is best in the world .if our caption select proper player according to each format .

Kohli " we don't want to give jet lag as an excuse" nice attitude. But as per reports Saini is still recovering from jet lag. He probably will be available next match.

You can take the warm ups against second stringers, we'll take the match that matters like last time around :kohli

World cup -2
World T20 -1
Champion trophy -2
Current table topper in test championship

What you have won ??? :shhh

New Zealand have been playing minnow level cricket in the last 3 months. What a thrashing at home!
Thinks it's a lack of confidence. Aus was a traumatizing experience for the fans and players.

Santner was out of sorts this match, didn't help we were playing at Eden Park where we've won 1 T20 in the last 8 (now 9).

There is still no place for people like in our T20 team,

1) Dube
2) Pandey ji
3) Chahal
4) Thakur saheb
5) Shami (poor T20 bowler)

So many passengers in an XI....

You can't be harsh on anyone on this kind of pitch.
These are ominous words from Kohli. So we'll see more of Thakur in coming games.....

As usual excuse starting lol

Excuses

Thakur ( awful) and Shami ( not a T20 bowler) shouldn't be any way near the team to Aus.

Kuldeep and Chahal must be united in W20 because they will have assurance of bigger grounds...

Bumrah is Gold

Jadeja/Dube/Hardik/Washington can be 5th & 6th Bowler

We only need a 4th bowler...pity Bhuvi is injured and Saini is too raw ( but atleast he has pace)...

Batting is set( wish Dhawan stay out)

Imagine losing to a team that's reached ground hours after a 18 hours flight which they boarded 8 hours after finishing a high intensity match? That too on your home ground knowing the conditions. And let's not forget the generosity from Kohli picking Shardul over Saini, the MoS in the last T20 series he played.

Nz is yet to win a world cup,T20 world cup but the entitlement of some here is funny to say the least,Gd for some comic relief though..

We are here talking about cricket, isn't it??
Yeah and I don't get my sporting fix from one sport lol. A CWC would be nice but I'm more than content with the success we've had.

Izzy could end up being huge if he gets past Romero, Costa and fights Jon Jones in a mega fight. Then there's Jay White winning the IWGP title and possibly winning the G1 in the future.

Don't be too harsh on Kiwis. Don't you know they lose at Eden park almost always?

this is the same arrogance Indian fans showed before the last WC after beating us in a JAMODI series earlier. We all know how it worked out when it mattered. Looks like it didn't get through last time, guess back to back humblings in WCs will have to do.

And that is the only reason they lost today....
Bowling and Fielding is why we lost today.

Bowling both sides of the wicket, short and then missing 2 run outs and dropping a sitter.

NZ is the last team anyone especially Indians will troll. Generally a well liked team. Thanks to one person like you and your troll posts, NZ is getting trolled. You troll India even in other matches lol Even today you started trolling here. May be you should just talk about your own team (assuming it is even your team) just like spacecat, ozymunda instead of trolling.

lot of talk for a team that either s***s the bed or gets demolished when it actually matters for all the trolling you're trying to do here. You'd think at least that would humble you.

Wow this lad is something. How on earth did you lot not give this guy a chance in the WC?

See , we are not too different than you guys. Degree of lobbying and foolish team management has hurt us very badly in last couple of years.

Nah, there were a couple of posters on here who went on about it. And another who keeps banging on about India being the best bowling line up in the world.

This is a new one. I was told it's the WC final that left NZ a broken team.

And what's the WC mention these kiwi fans of the brown variety keep coming up with, when did that team EVER win a trophy worth winning?

We can't bench Dube just like that. He can hit the ball cleanly with a high SR in that number 6 position and can bowl 1-2 overs which is what is required in a T20 match. We need to give him exposure to see how it works out.

Yes. Why is there a doubt in that? Check the record across the formats. They have the best collective average, strike rate over a long period. Australia is a one-dimensional attack who can just bully their perennial bunnies at home. You cannot use this argument of "We were like deer caught in headlights batted worse than Yasir shah against Australian bowling in the tests, but batted better against India at Eden park so Australia must be better" . Come up with proper explanation, justification instead of saying "We struggled so they must be good" argument.

it's called an eye test. That Aus bowling attack is special, India's is decent but is being overhyped to levels they will never reach.

The same attack you were hyping up conceded 200 to players who were broken, defeated and struggling for every run in Aus.

Same attack you hyped were absolutely demolished by Indians. Why that much. Pant and jadeja added 200 at a run rate of 5 plus against this attack at SCG. Starc was going over 6 an over. Think about it was a test match. Yasir Shah made his maiden 100. Rizwan uz zaman almost made a 100. May be it is just that your batting sucks against tall fast bowlers in bouncier conditions? UNder the same conditions you probably would struggle against Indian attack, pakistan attack and many attacks too.

Nah, they were relentless. I expect India to get hammered as well, this team is high on confidence and if they bat first, score runs you're going to be batting to save matches.

What?!! Bloody awful from the Kiwis

I hope we get better performances in the subsequent matches... don’t want another borefest of a series featuring New Zealand

What you have won ??? :shhh

The trophy for being the least populated country in International cricket or having more goats than people etc.

Rugby shugby too.

You are repeating the same thing. I also saw the series. It was rubbish batting. If anything they were far more intense against India. Pujara stood like a rock. They even walked upto him and asked him "aren't you bored". This Australian attack turns into pie chuckers after 40 overs or so. But NZ sucked against them even after that.

But Kiwis were tired too - from the thrashing handed over to them by the Ozzies. :P

And yet this still happened

Never going to forget, will gloat about it till the day I die or India get one back. One of the sweetest days ever as a cricket fan 👍 ♥️

Dream of every New Zealanders but it's only remain dream for them
Ah, this picture <3. A Kiwi would never know the feeling. Aman you can take pride in this victory too rather than counting sheeps over men or talking about rugby shugby - we won't mind. You're a desi afterall.

Did it result in you winning the World Cup? No. Lol. Typical middling team mentality. :yk
One of the sweetest victories in NZ cricket history. Why wouldn't I celebrate it?

Only the gods stopped us from winning a WC. Wasn't our time.
