You can't blame them. I was worried in some series maybe a year back that Bazball would ruin his immense potential since he was batting like a clown at one point. But he's got more of a game plan nowadays.
Alot of people have said this about Pant too. But people who understand cricket and aren't driven by biases (not to say that you are) can identify the talent and separate it from the more raw and tougher aspects

Talking of Brook, it reminds me that Ponting who is sometimes insane in how he calls the game did it again. He told Shastri the ball before that Brook was gonna charge.

Brooke's real test will be in Aust and India. He failed in India but lets see if he can score in Australia.

Every test series England play outside of the Ashes is an Ashes warm up yet they've only won 1 of the last 5 Ashes series .insane arrogance.
History has nothing to do with quality of cricket. West Indies team has more cricketing legacy than most of the teams yet no one is interested in watching them anymore due to low quality.

West indies cricketing Authorities have proven to be corrupt. They don't prioritize Test cricket.

In this Country we prioritize Test cricket, hence England produce quality Test cricketers which puts bums on seats.

And the Ashes series no matter what is the icing on the cake For England. Ok maybe England have not Done well in Australia for the best part of a decade but also Australia have not won a test Series in England for a quarter of a Century. So atleast our Home form is keeping the Ashes rivalry A hugh Topic.

Woakes 'all in' if England need him on day five

All-rounder Chris Woakes is "all in" on helping England secure a series win over India despite his shoulder injury, says Joe Root.

Woakes suffered the injury while trying to prevent a boundary on the opening day of the fifth Test.

On Friday, England said "at this stage, the injury has ruled him out of any further participation in the Test".

England go into the final day on Monday needing 35 more runs to secure a 3-1 series win, with four wickets in hand.

Woakes was seen in the England changing room late on Sunday in his whites, but still with his left arm in a sling.

Asked by BBC Test Match Special if Woakes will bat if required, Root said: "I assume so. He is desperate to do what it takes.

"There is a lot of things that have to happen before that."

They should just look to wrap up the game under lights in such situations. Everyone now needs to turn up on day 5. What a waste!!! I can’t imagine humans being this stupid 10 years from now

Ponting is an incredible reader of the game. He has done this a number of times. The guy has cricket running through his veins

I think he’s a fantastic pundit, he’s raised the quality of the discourse in this series for sure. But he didn’t always read the game as well from the field. England fans know this well, he’s the only Australian captain from the modern era to have lost 3 Ashes series and he made loads of mistakes, tactical boobs & bad selections against us.

Rain kinda saved England today. All the momentum was with India. Tomorrow will be a new day and batters will start fresh

England were in major head loss mode and the bowlers in great rhythm had them on the ropes, they were sliding downhill fast towards a defeat. Rain was England’s get out of jail free card on this occasion. It’s back in the balance for tomorrow. Been a magnificent series.

Don't you love the suspense though?

And all 4 tests going into the 5th day is a perfect ending to a great series.

TEST CRICKET IS THE WINNER

Well played both teams.

Pitch did flatten out so Brook tulla got lucky but it is what it is

Dropped catch twice too

I am a fan of Harry Brooks after this knock. This is right up there, simply the audacity and arrogance with which he took apart the bowling with the series on line and a stiff target(350+) to chase. :ab :inti

Never seen a cricketer with such a basic surname have it said wrong so often lol. Brooks, Brookes etc.

Brook.
I have googled his name several times to confirm before I type. I think it's because we have Garth Brooks to contend with and in India there is this famous tea brand Brooke Bond that used to be British I guess.

I think he has a better chance of getting a hundred in Australia than Roooot :srt unless it's a really flat pitch and the current Aus lineup have some injuries.

Forget Bradman, Steve Smith in 4 matches in 2014 BGT scored more runs then Gill could in 5.

Delusional people actually thought he'd break the 947 runs record set by the greatest batsmen of all time. :don

If this series ends 3-1, which I think it will, the score line doesn’t reflect how competitive India have been here

Ind have won more sessions than Eng. India have performed as well as the home team in conditions that suited home team. Big moments is where Ind lost .

India urged to stay calm ahead of final day showdown in London

Huge praise for fast bowler Mohammed Siraj as India chase a series-equalling victory at The Oval in London on Monday.
India bowling coach Morne Morkel has urged his side to keep fighting during the final day of the fifth Test against England at The Oval.

The fifth and final Test of the enthralling five-match series between England and India will reach its climax on Monday, with both sides still chasing victory with the hosts requiring 35 runs to win and the visitors another four wickets to square the series.

India fought back late on the fourth day with the crucial wickets of centurions Joe Root and Harry Brook and Morkel believes his side can still pull off an unlikely victory by claiming the final four scalps on Monday.

“You can't really afford to throw in the towel in a very important Test match, and for us it was key," Morkel said of his team's late fightback heading into stumps on the fourth day.

"To break that partnership, get a new batter in, we've seen it so many times before where if you get one (breakthrough) you can easily get one or two and just create a bit of pressure around that.

"For us to stay calm and really work hard to break that partnership and from there, just to get the ball in the right area.

"Tomorrow we can just focus on doing a good warm-up, get the boys ready to hopefully get the ball in the right area and create a little bit of excitement again.”

If India are going to claim the final four wickets and level the series at 2-2 then fast bower Mohammed Siraj is likely to play a major role in helping the side get across the line.

Siraj is the leading wicket-taker already in the series with 20 scalps and Morkel is thrilled to see the fiery right-armer earn praise for his efforts.

"I'm very happy for Siraj that he's getting the recognition," Morkel said.

"He's a guy that in the changing room that will always lead the way and I think he's a natural leader, although vocally he doesn't speak a lot.

"I think he leads a lot of actions in this series. So far, he's done it with the ball at times that we've needed somebody to put his hand up and create something, even if it was bowling an extra two overs, three overs or creating opportunity for us, he's been that guy. So he's put in the effort and it's just nice to see the rewards.

"And today, again, at the backend, stepping up, getting the support behind the team to lift us in the crucial moments.

"It's those sort of smart plays that you need. And for me Siraj has just been outstanding."

Also, a bit of a external help for hosts. Had the game concluded yesterday, India would have won as all momentum was with them. However, they were quick to call off the game at 6pm even though there was bright sunshine so that Eng can get heavy rollers today.

Most probably India will get Smith out with 10 needed, then England will win by 3 wickets.

3-1 is apt scoreline for this series. Gambhir has to go from tests now, let someone like VVS or Kotak take over the test team.

Why were Kuldeep, Arshdeep & even Easwaran picked if they were not going to play in any of the matches. Easwaran or Jurel could have easily replaced that average & listless ftb Sai Sudarshan, but Gill & Gambhir felt otherwise.

Gambhir should be sacked or India's #1 ranking in ODIs & T20Is will also go down.

Starting to think like a Pakistani fan and feeling we might benefit more from a defeat here with the hope that a few players and the coach might get kicked out of the team.

The geniuses who picked Kuldeep and Arshdeep to keep the on the bench for 5 tests straight and who did not pick red hot Shreyas Iyer and instead went with Karun Nair need to be held accountable.

First time watching Sai as I don't particularly follow the IPL. Thought he was very good. Jurel when Pant is around is overkill. Don't know about Easwaran.

Gambhir was never gonna play the ones he omitted because he has so much ego, he can't bear to have been proven wrong.

Historically the last test of the season in England is played in September and its always at the Oval. Wonder why they are wrapping up early this time in first week of August.

Any idea @James ?

A staggering 21 centuries have been scored in the IND vs ENG ongoing Test series, the joint-most ever in Test cricket

Should quickly arrange a 6 match series vs Pak windies roll out flat tracks bowl leg stump half volleys at root. Get closer to the record.

India have a chance here.

I think England batters need to go after the early loose balls. Getting bogged down will lead to defeat.

Pakistan and West Indies were once great proud cricketing nations. Sad to see some of Pak fans now reduced to cheering for Joe Root and reduced to rear side kisser —just because they’re desperate and touchy about Sachin.

What a fall from grace.

#Shame

Rahul probably dropped the match there. Siraj could have had two in two. What an eventful over.

Great scenes on the final day.

Commies calling it an extraordinary over but it was just extraordinary lulloo batting, chasing balls on the 5th stump line.

Another play and a miss.

The ball is playing tricks.

Will India take the new ball? This one is doing enough.

This is one of the best test series i have ever followed as a cricket fan. One of the best ever.

5 intensely fought test matches back to back.
