Just four days ago, India and Sri Lanka going into a T20I series in a 50-over World Cup year seemed futile from a sporting perspective. But after two closely fought contests put the series on an even keel, Saturday's finale could yet serve as an interesting precursor for the ODIs to follow.

On paper, Hardik Pandya's India don't boast of too much T20I experience. It's a young squad, but with players who've repeatedly 'been there, done that' in the high-pressure situations in the IPL. That came through in both the fixtures where they displayed their resolve till the very end to first eke out a win in Mumbai and then miss out narrowly in Pune.

Sri Lanka too have brought a lot of feistiness to the series that was on abundant display during their title run in this year's Asia Cup. Dasun Shanaka has helmed the side admirably, shrugging off the disappointment of a forgettable World Cup campaign to improve the team's white-ball stocks. Expect another game of small margins at the weekend.

When: India vs Sri Lanka, 3rd T20I, January 6, 07:00 PM IST

Where: Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot

What to expect: Rajkot has always been about big runs across formats. In the four T20Is played there, two wins have come while batting first, the other two while bowling first.

Team News:

India

The hosts have a decision to make in the pace department between two misfiring quicks in Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel, after India's death bowling suffered in the second T20I.

Probable XI: Ishan Kishan (w), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Tripathi, Hardik Pandya(c), Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh/Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal

Sri Lanka

Dasun Shanaka, riding high on his match-winning effort, should retain the same XI that earned him series parity.

Probable XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(w), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka

Squads:

India Squad: Ishan Kishan(w), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Tripathi, Hardik Pandya(c), Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Shivam Mavi, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Harshal Patel

Sri Lanka Squad: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(w), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka, Lahiru Kumara, Avishka Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Pramod Madushan, Dunith Wellalage, Nuwan Thushara, Sadeera Samarawickrama

If it is a typical Rajkot there will be runfest. Will be a good time pass match if everyone clicks.

India have won the toss and have opted to bat

Easy win coming up for India but then again wins against SL really dont count. Its not a real test of our supremely talented young team.

Gill is not a T20 player. But our selectors think so. Pandya thinks so. Truth is he is from Gujarat Titans team. Hence he will keep playing

If ishan kishan is future of Indian cricket then sorry we will not win any icc tournament .he is just another heck

Srilanka is a settled team. It is their core unit. So they are going to be favorites either way. Only disappointment is Indian selectors don't pick right batsman for right format.

Untill this whole mangement not sacked we are not going to win . dravid is big failure aa a coach. We need a coach who think like baz .

Do losses against SL count? India had one the other day.

This hopeless Chahal is in the XI. Seems like making tiktok videos give you an edge to find yourself in the XI

very unselfish cricketer. Making debut in 31. May not have a lot of cricket left. But he doesn't play selfishly.

Gill is not T20 player. We are simply wasting time.
Prudhvi shaw, Ruturaj and Padikkal are much better than him in this format.

Gill has issues with playing big shots. He also has massive issues playing off spin. He can play pace very well.

ill once scred 40 runs in 20 overs in the IPL. I cannot believe he plays T20 international

India still heading for 180+, not sure why so much panic.

Surya is such a special player. Give him good batting wicket and he will make you sit and watch a live game like a video game.

Both Gill and Sky have batted for similar number of deliveries but the latter have scored more than double the runs Gill has scored.

That was such an amazing timing from Gill.

Need 230 minimum on this pitch and against an attack like ours.

Pandya's batting has regressed a lot over last year or so.

Pandya lost his charm now his downfall will start .he is thinking too much without results

That skier from Pandya also showed that batting isn't as easy as Sky is making it look like.

6 hitting isn't an event when Sky hits them, its such a regular phenomenon.

This should also be the end of Sanju Samson career because no one in their right mind will leave out a player like SKY and pick a Sanju in ODIs at 5. :viru :inti

That too from number 4. I am sure most centuries in T20's are from the openers.
Rohit had to play 140 innings to score 4 T20 tons while Sky has scored 3 in 43 innings!

Had Pandya not bowled first after winning toss in last game, we'd have won that game too.

34 matches 80 sixes !!! I don't think even Chris Gayle had that record in his first 34 matches

SKY has never played like this in the IPL. It is almost like he improved his hitting skills in the last 2 years. Either that or he is one of those guys who do one step better at internationals than domestic.

I'm sorry but SKY shouldn't be allowed to play on earth. He belongs to a different planet / galaxy etc.. The giybis INSANE!!!

117(55) vs Eng, Nottingham July 2022
111*(51) vs NZ, Mt Maunganui Nov 2022
112*(51) vs SL, Rajkot Jan 2023

All century has 200+ strike rate

Best Indian T20I batsman outside of Kohli and Yuvraj of all-time.

Great delivery to finish the over, finally.

We are yet to lose a bilateral T20 series decider in 7 tries at home.

SKY and Axar are the only players carrying India's batting in this series.

And SKY's innings today has probably taken the match out of SL's reach allthough SL have started well.
