What's new

India [230/4] beat South Africa [227/9] by 6 wickets in the 8th match of the 2019 World Cup

Would. Have been awesome if rabada got the wicket but whatever, game on now. 2 more wickets and quickly, India crumble.

He doesn't accelerate at the correct time . Kohli knows how to rotate strike and the moments when to accelerate.

I rate Babat extremely highly but at times he plays too many dots. It's not even about his lack of boundaries for me. Kohli,Root ,and Smith always keep the strike ticking.
Yes that is the perception. Although I believe someone posted stats on this forum, which proved quite the contrary.

We also have to consider the fact that Babar plays a lot of his cricket in the UAE.

Understanding the pitch and conditions are very Important, all pitches are not flat as initially everyone was talking about. And so technically strong openers are very important such as Imam and Sharma

You are just making a joke out of yourself and exposing your lack of knowledge when it comes to cricket. Babar never bats too slow its just that he doesnt bat like gayle or butler.

Whichever player i make caption in dream11 .never perfrom so next time no body from India I make caption .today my caption in 2 team we're Amla & Kohli

Shamsi is a good replacement for Tahir. He will play at 2023 WC. I'm sure SA will groom another specialist spinner for 2023.

When we need 300 to win Babar hasn't accelerated at the correct time.

Do you even read ? I said his issue isn't lack of boundaries anyway, he will play dot balls when he can rotate the strike instead.

A question to indian bros, would babar azam walk in to this current indian team?

He bats at number #3. Can't replace Kohli.
Maybe can replace dhawan as opener or KL at #4 but we don't have data of Babar as opener or #4 so can't be sure if he can perform on these positions or not.

But on current position he won't be able to walk-in but that's not his fault he is fighting for spot with ODI GOAT so no one can walk-in at #3 for India.

The biggest problem I see with babar is when he gets near 50 or hundred he slows down like a snail and thats one area where babar could improve.

what about the number 4 position?

No doubt. In fact most teams who have selected spinners in this WC, they can play at the next WC.

Pakistan not groom many young spinners these day. After this world cup Pak should groom 3 to 4 spinners, specially wrist spinners.

what about the number 4 position?

He is better than KL the batsman so far. So in theory he should get in #4.
However #4 game is different than #3 because if top 3 tick number #4 sometimes come at a time with 15-20 over left and require a good acceleration game as well. Someone who can play with 100+ strike rate from start without sucking the momentum by taking lot of balls to settle down after a good start. I don't know if Babar has that game or not (I haven't followed his entire career). But if he does then he walks in easily.

If not then he would have to develop that game to be a #4.

Again you just dont have enough knowledge of cricket to understand. I guess somebody told him that he plays dot balls and its stuck in your head.

But he is fighting with ODI GOAT. So how can he get in at #3, at #4 he can get in but #4 is different than #3 so don't have data if he would be a successful #4 or not

Rahul have talent but unfortunately his stat don't to justice and if babar is indian he surely develop his game more than what he is now due to our culture.

south Africa needs to find one good leggie and I see them as a good spin attack plus nortge, rabada are good pace bowlers, good pace bowling allrounder in andie. The bowling seems to be in good hands ,the batting will be a worry as replacements of duminy, amla and faf wont be easy plus you guys will need a new captain so it will be interesting who that would be.I have seen some batters in the mzansi super league in de zorzi, malan and cloete they are exciting players but it will be interesting to see how they do in international level.

Fair enough, I think KL talent is over rated. I think it's performances which count. Talent doesnt just mean hitting few good looking cover drives, he needs temperament as well which seems to be lacking.

Whatever I have seen of Babar so far he is extremely consistent and doesn't gift his wicket. Which is more important than hitting few good drives and getting out.

I hope you get to see his potential when he plays at old Tradford.

Also he needs to keep rotating the strike. Look at Root on Monday , he kept on rotating even when England were under pressure.

I assume you are talking about Babar? He will bat at #3 I think at old Trafford.
I already seen him play so I know his potential. He's one of the most consistent batsman and rarely gifts his wicket. He is likes young tendulkar or Kohli in this regard that he enjoys batting. That's very important for any grest player.

I was talking specifically for #4 or opening spot both are different from #3. As a batsman Babar is already ahead of anyone in Indian team right now apart from Kohli and Rohit.

Malan , De Kock, and Markham are very good players. Van Der Dussen is 30. South Africa will be fine. They won't win it but they should be better prepared for the next WC.

Arent the number 3 or 4 position roles similar?

Van der dussen will be a potential captain, such a calm character this guy is.

Some aspects are overlapping but at #4 you can still get away with a weak game against seam/swing conditions. Since at #3 you need a good game against pace bowling because a player can come in lot of times when ball is doing something.

Also #4 require a good power game, more than power game it requires someone who has ability to come in straight away and start playing at 100+ SR. Rotating strike and hitting boundaries of bad balls without taking 5-7 overs to settle.

Let's assume 230/2 in 35 overs, if #4 takes 5-6 overs to settle and sucks the tempo to make it 250/2 in 41 overs a team loses 20-30 runs.

Excellent analysis.

This match is done and dusted.

Should have taken those two chances Sharma gave in the first 5 overs

If rohit gets settled he is difficult to get out,the longer he stays the more monstorous sixes you will see from him.

Babar Azam is the 2nd best Asian batsman right now and is one of the top bats overall.

Walks into any team.

Done& dusted how so??? Still we need lots of runs and don't have much batting depth .

South Africa don't have good enough bowlers to run through this line up.

Sharma & Rahul are looking solid.

Plus you still have Dhoni, Pandya, Jadav to come.

Another boundary conceded from Shamsi, SA need wickets desperately.
