As it has been in last 7-8 months or so, it all comes down to Rishabh Pant.

The only man standing in front of England and their victory :inti

Seems like a worst case scenario for Indian fans.

If India had collapsed yesterday and England had chased it down, it would've triggered at least a few changes in the team.

Instead, Pujara and Rahane crawled their way to 40ish scores, thereby ensuring their selection in the next test and then got out to make their knocks valiant efforts in a losing cause. Ishant will probably pick a few wickets in England's successful chase as well:yk

I'd say it's 75%-25% Englands chances (vs India escaping with a draw)

Indias routes to escape are an epic Pant knock + tail resistance.

Or epic tail resistance + Moeen not delivering + England bottling the chase again...

England would fancy chasing 200 in 65-75 overs today.

Anything over that could be a little tricky especially with their shaky and one dimensional top 3.

Pant should come out guns blazing playing his natural game which if it comes off could take their lead to over 200 in the first hour itself.

Actually I feel he should bat steadily today and look to hang around longer.

200 in 80 overs will be much more easier for England than 220 in 70 overs. The reason I say so is because if India picks early wickets, England will then look to shut shops first and then maybe see if they can score 100 runs in final 20 overs.

Their batting is mediocre too so they will also look to go the safe mode first, get to 120/2 after 50 overs and then start attacking in last 20 overs.

Doubt that he could survive for long if he goes defensive as naturally his game is attacking and that 80+ SR in tests and FC shows that for Pant.

He may look to get his eye in for the first 5-7 overs then start going after the bowlers but anything over 200 and England will panic slightly.

On balance, I am going for a WinViz of:

65% England win.
24% Draw.
10% India win.
1% Tie.

That 10% is gnawing away at me though….I’ve seen England lose Test matches from similar positions….

If the weather gods have any conscience left in them, the rain should come crashing down at an hour past lunch to compensate for the first test rain.

Chasing 180-200 should not be tough at home.

New Ball will take away the Indian tail. England will win comfortably with 6 or 7 wickets in hand...!

I think after watching our batsmen bat in third inning of 2nd test I can say that weather gods actually helped India in the 4th inning of 1st test. :inti

In his short career has Pant ever batted without such immense pressure on him?

What's the point not running?

Ishant has to be trusted to some level.

Else the scoreboard won't move and we'll lose wickets anyway.

What can ishant do apart from leaving or blocked?? He is not going to score any runs here .

Pant making sure everyone has their seat belts tightened up. This is all gonna be drama.

That is the game for England. Robinson on the channel with new bowl.

Point is Pant can get a boundary in the first 4 balls and give the strike to Ishant.

It was the right strategy.

This pant guy is surely overrated.

He does not have technique to play quality bowling.

Pant’s down! Robbo is the real deal for England.

India need runs and to take time out of the game to increase the England run rate required.

Ishant has developed a special liking for Jimmy, another boundary.

Only hope is if they somehow reach that target of 200 (the lead). That is another 30 odd runs. It will be frustrating and demoralizing to England.

OR at least bite some overs (like another 15-20 overs even if they score less than 10 runs)

Bro whenever you post something like this for Rahul or Pant they lose their wickets immediately. :inti

The general rule says that in a match thread, all of us post about the guy who is on crease and batting at that time.

Now, it is not my problem that you show up on PP only to read my post when Rahul or Pant is batting :yk

Sadly the wrong bowler got the wicket. I wanted to be able to post “Wood bursts through Pant”.

Another boundary, this time from Shami.

Keep 'em coming!

Wish Rain would come....big time
Cmon shami and lambu....few good desi lappa's....
small consolation that the smirk gets wiped off the grumpy sour puss legend who didnt like it when jazz boom got stuck into him , within the rules of the game....
cant face it when its hot...and whinges about everything -

I think this game has some twists and turns still to come. England's openers are weak and Root is due a failure so this could be a very exciting final day with either team still able to pull off victory

India need to get to 220 runs lead somehow. Ishant playing a good role with bat here. Hopefully, a few more slogs and we reach there.

Here comes woody...
doubt it will be anything length...
heads and shoulders, knees and toess....

Wood will look to bring his LOI bowling style here. Yorkers and bouncers stuff!

220 runs target is very good but don't think we can score another 40 runs

Am sure no indian will be whinging about that short one shami copped
Whats Mr Jim Grump legend have to say about that...

Need a session washed out so England gets a taste of their own medicine.

was a prime lbw candidate, with that exagerrated shuffle...
Whats happened to his technique, at one point i thought he was a tough lower order bat and hard to dislodge

Somehow needs to get to that 200 mark and then some rain to spice up things :))

God these guys are so not going to last.
