What's new

India (364 & 298/8 dec) defeat England (391 & 120) by 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series

Why do they have to start the game at 11.00 AM and not earlier? I'm sure it gets bright enough in England at 9.30 at this time of the year.

Its bright at 4am so its not the issue of light.
Its more to do with the early morning moisture on the wicket.
Also if they start at 09:30am will they have Brunch at 11:30am?
and then lunch at 1:30pm? Or are very long 3 hour morning session?
By the way they also have to think about the hospitality where they rake in the money so lunch and tea (along with the copious amount of alcohol sold) is a big income for the grounds.

Also during a nice warm summer it doesn't get dark until 9pm and lay can easily continue up to 7:30/8pm.
We've just been extremely unlucky with the weather.

This is excellent batting from us.

Keep on piling their misery.

Ridiculous from England.

Every run is making their upcoming chase a little bit harder.

Pitch was like this yesterday too after 1st session and before last 10 mins.

But our Maharathis did something special.

Our tail is literally putting their innings into perspective.

This is possibly the best Test match that I have seen in years. It’s just had everything. It reminds me of some of the crazy matches in the 90s which came down to a 4th innings humdinger and teams tended to win by 10ish runs or 2-3 wickets. Can see that happening again here. I am travelling this afternoon so logging off now, but will be listening to the climax on the radio.

Once the lead crosses 240-250, England can bid goodbye to their chances to win this test.

England's problem is number of overs left. That will confuse them whether to attack or defend at different points! Sure the pitch is not that hard to defend, but it may become challenging to score runs at higher RR (Even England's RR was slow for most part of their innings and they have lots of passengers in their team too...) If Root gets out early then things can tilt more towards India...

England has lost the plot. They could have gotten India all-out 1 hour ago. 34 runs in this partnership now.

there is some variable bounce. Siraj can he handful here if he bowls on stump. Just need a couple to stay low for England to panic.

Terrible captaincy by Root....it seems Eng have already given up on winning.

Not even trying to stop singles and hardly any close catchers.

ENG have lost the plot....and it won't be a surprise if they go on to lose here.

surprising these two batting well. got us a lead of 220 so far

England fans have gone awfully quiet. As have their adopted fans :))

Guess the excitement that was impressing the English boys when Bumrah was getting peppered is long gone :)

Game heading for a draw I reckon, Bumrah and Shami the saviours and Root scratching his head. Entertaining viewing.

Well they could do something like

10.00-12.00 - First session
12.00 - 12.40 - Lunch
12.40- 2.40 - Second session
2.40 -3.00 - Tea
3.00 - 5.00 - Third session.

Even in cloudy weather, it would still be reasonably bright at 5.00 PM. So they won't have to end early due to bad light.

If India can bat 10 more overs, England will need to chase at RR of around 4.

It sure is :))

Who does Anderson think he is? Bumrah tried to have a friendly word with him at the end of it all and even patted his shoulder, but Anderson thinks he's special and kept grumbling away.

Now England gonna lose :)))
Am glad, you mentioned this...
That part of the narrative is so lost in all the hoopla that was created...
Jazz boom is the nicest non sledging quick going around
Any planet better on field behaviour than jim grump

Anderson has already bowled 50 overs. He wont be able to run in with much intensity later in this series or he may not play at all. Either way , that's a positive for us.

England letting Bumrah and Shami score free 20s.

U r a champ m8...safe travels :)

Shami hits him for 4, this will make Jimmy even grumpier.

Okay: does Kohli do a surprise declaration here and tempt England with a tricky day 5 chase?

Better declare now rather than when a draw is inevitable.

I think it's safe to say this is beyond England's capabilities to chase this target.

With the top 3 that England has perhaps they don't fancy their chances of winning so that is why they are letting the tail wag and have fun while the lead goes near 230.

England might feel they could actually lose if they have to bat more than 50 overs.

Awkward for England now.

69 overs left for them to get 230 unless the extra half hour is taken. Could use that fella Stokes.

Always a good idea to retire on time :)

ENG can't win now...for sure

They look lost....a batting collapse is inevitable... India to win

We are still not out of the woods.

If you get in on this pitch, you can cause untold misery to the opposition.

Need to bat more overs.

This indian team is another level when it comes to mental strength. The sheer determination and never die attitude is the hall mark of a champion team
