What's new

India (364 & 298/8 dec) defeat England (391 & 120) by 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series

This is some brilliant tail-ender batting by Shami and Bumrah. They sure can wield the willow if required.

All hail the IPL.

Bumrah has learnt his batting skills from IPL. All hail IPL.

We are still not out of the woods.

If you get in on this pitch, you can cause untold misery to the opposition.

Need to bat more overs.

ENG won't go for a win now....pretty sure.

They will play for draw....and looking at their body language a batting collapse seems inevitable

Turns out that Indian tail enders have the highest partnership average in tests with an average of 21.47 runs per dismissal.

Indian batsmen giving a fight, and saving the match. Shami and Bumrah are fighters but not in the same league as Abid Ali and Imran Butt.

I'm speechless. Full credit to the Indian tail but the tactics from the England think tank have been awful!

Or go the other extreme and keep batting. If it's going to be a draw, make it a frustrating draw for England and then have them bat a pointless 30 overs.

Bumrah has improved his batting average from 3 to 4.6. Hopefully he can turn it around in ODIs and T20s as well where he is averaging 3 and 4 respectively. :inti

What should they have done, apart from holding on to dropped catches?

They could have bowled straighter, at the stumps and mix it with very few short stuff, and bowl some slower ones, back of the hand or knuckles balls...

Yoo hooo....ali bro socked....
and eng will need 250 now.....
Shami.....who could have dreamt this.....

So India has had the upper hand in both the tests that have been played in this series so far.

We're yet to lose a test in England whenever we scored 300 in the first innings. That record will stay safe.

Lunch.
It is a foregone conclusion that this will be a draw, however still wish Kohli declares and we see Bumrah and Shami have a go at their batting.

Excellent batting by the Indian tail and terrible tactics by Root. Should have had four slips up and bowled straight. Now the match is gone for them.

Smattering of an applause as Shami and Bumrah proudly walk off the field. The same crowd had gone wild when Bumrah was smacked on the head :))

A bit like one of the England fans here James who was ecstatic but then had to catch a train or something :)))

I think after watching our batsmen bat in third inning of 2nd test I can say that weather gods actually helped India in the 4th inning of 1st test. :inti

Think we batted decently on 3rd innings of 2nd test. I am sure we would have scored remaining 157 runs as well in last game. Rain saved England back then.

Can the declaration be kept quite and announced just before the start of next session? (Just to mess up opposition's plans)

Man how can this Lords pitch be so dead. Normally it is green and mean.

I did ask this at the beginning of the match, and was called a “whinging Pom”. It’s odd, given all the rain that has been about.

Looking forward, England’s best chances on have gone and the Indian spinners should deliver a 0-2 win on the drier tracks of September.

We are saved. #thankushami

Somehow tailender runs are more satisfying than top order runs!
