Time for gentlemen captains like Pataudi, Umrigar, Sachin, Mankad, even Dhoni has forever gone. It’s just Naked aggression now.

Bring on anyone and anything. Toss win or loss, batting first or bowling, spinning pitch or Gabba, home or away, Main team or B-team. Dust bowls or grass. That’s the attitude.

This series doesn’t count - it’s just a calendar filler after the main event.

The New Zealand Test was the only cricket match in 2021 which matters. Every other game is just trivial.
 
This is the first time in a home test that both England openers have been out for 0.

This match is less important than a warm-up match.

At least a warm-up helps in picking the team for the main match.

This Test is roughly as important as a session in the nets.

Frankly this year’s Ashes has lost its lustre because it follows the WTC Final.

I’m hoping that England pulls out for quarantine reasons and Australia plays a series against the world champions instead. And I’m English!

Your logic is wierd. Without these tests how will the final 2 be decided? Are you sure you are not Misbah in disguise as thats how the Pak team is playing.
 
Never understood - Why’s Pak so interested in WTC finals when India, Eng, NZ - teams with real chance don’t.

cant understand the staggered first slip either - am sure if one comes his way, either the keeper or the 2nd slipper will go for it....its a waste of a position...

Decent fairness by you but Sibley is not test class. Burns would be ok if there was a Gooch-level figure at the other end.
 
As i predicted Ind will win this-A terrible England top order that cant defend or score. England could do a lot worse than sending Buttler to the top to hit the Ind bowlers.

It’s just horrible scheduling. The WTC Final should have been the climax of the season, not near the beginning. (Which would have been fairer on India too).

It’s very hard to get excited about eating a McDonalds cheeseburger half an hour after having a three course meal.

I much prefer red ball cricket to white ball cricket and today was the first day of this series that I have even watched - and I didn’t watch Pakistan’s Test either.

After a World Cup Final - including a Test one - that format should not be played again that season. I’d rather watch England and India play T20’s or tiddlywinks.
 
If we don't pick Root in next 5 overs, the game will head towards draw... We will not get full 60 overs (at the most 40 overs)
 
Rohit Sharma needed to take that catch, this is now a draw... Onto the next test match...

What a crazy strawman argument. Clearly the teams dont think the match is inconsequential nor do the crowd. And if anything blame it on the ICC, for they draw up the calendar.

Its two top teams battling it out on Day 5 of a test. Will take that anyday over a meaningless bilateral white ball series.

I agree. Only WTC final counts. Pak tour to Windies in 87/88 should he ignored as well considering the was no WTC and Windies dodnt have Viv or Marshall. But somehow that match and series counts I suppose :)
 
Without these byes (12) and that drop, England would've been almost buried by now.

I am so loving this test match. Every time India looks to be under the pump they somehow manged to wriggle themselves out of it. What I have witnessed in the morning session however shows Root is a pretty ordinary captain and tactician.

Loving the chit chat, intensity and going for full throttle from both side. This is real cricket played by growns ups

I like the look of brother Hameed. He didn’t look intimidated though the Indians didn’t really target him when he came out. But still. Has an ease about him that’s attractive.
 
You don't want a situation where England claims the moral victory after a draw. Bowlers should bowl with a discipline and not get carried away. :inti
