What's new

India (364 & 298/8 dec) defeat England (391 & 120) by 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series

We were leading by ~150 this morning. Who would have predicted we'd win by 151 in the end?

Siraj is my man of the match. The aggression, fire and pace of a proper fast bowler. We have got a beast in our arsenal.

It is more likely to be KL Rahul though. But Siraj definitely deserves it. What a bowler! What a find!

Extraordinary performance from India. The way they turned it around from Day 4 to today just shows why they are one of the best test teams around currently.

Spare a moment for our boy Junaids, Pakistan lose to the WI and India wins against ENG...

This will be very hard on him..

Shame on England. Root should quit his captaincy, he is not a leader. Kohli is not a a genius either but he never gives up, always pumps up the bowlers.

Half of English team are passengers. Missing Stokes, Broad and Archer is no excuse to play this bad at home.

England threw the game.

The egos took over and lost discipline when the Indian tail enders came out. Lost the match at that very moment!

congrats guys (Indian fans)

What a test match

Commiserations to Eng fans.Must be tough from yesterday

Well done to India.

Where is that 'English' guy for whom this test was no more important than a net session?

Sour grapes.

Feel sad for England that they couldn't save it, seem to have the same opening problem as Pakistan. Would love to say hope they can come back and smash the Indians in the next 3 tests, but can't see it happening.

As I said yesterday, this England batting is so poor that it wouldn't have been able to chase 150. You have one batsman and 2 WKs as your main batsman, and sure as day follows night, you are going to struggle.

This is surreal. What a comeback by Team India. Siraj boy, tone down that attitude a tad bit. You are gonna have a very very fine career.

England lost the test when Root took a cowardly decision to ask the umpires to call stumps early last evening. Moeen was ripping it and the Indian tailenders were struggling to come to terms with him.

The tactics during the Shami and Bumrah partnership only underscored how India had gotten under England's skin. That ten minute passage of play when Root failed to shield Anderson from Bumrah at the end of day 3 was another significant moment.

All in all, a test match for the ages.

Lol, 2 consecutive bad days for you.

Can't believe the morning session though, England completely gave away the momentum in that crazy hour!

I predicted before the series that Ind would win easily against a terrible English batting. Nothing I have seen makes me change my mind

If you don't enjoy test cricket you really have no taste

Agreed. Its like a fine art piece which has the ability to slowly delve into a spectacle.

Maybe not for everyone but, for ones it is there is no other fix.

Incredible victory! Congrats to all Indian fans & Test cricket fans!

What a turnaround in a single day - from India trying to save the test this morning to actually snatching victory. Anazing victory this, even better than gabba!

wow....ye kamaal ho gaya...
who'd have thougt.....at start of day...leading by 150 to winning by 150....Wow....
one of our greatest ever....
we deserved to win at nottingham....
and if not for the SIXTH day - we'd be joint world champs that we richly deserve....

Yes, that will be the biggest legacy he will leave when he hangs up in boots. I am sure Dhoni would have never declared or won a test like today.

Great win for India and awesome viewing ..a proper test lasting full 5 days and fantastic display of batting and bowling.

I said in the morning that this game would have some twists to it.

Yesterday everyone was saying India is playing too slowly but as it turned out 200 would have been enough with England's top order..

True....2 tests that went the distance...sorry for your guys, but you still fought hard and to loose by 1 wicket - is so close...
just goes to show Tests ae the pinnacle

This...

Root wont sleep tonight knowing how much he screwed this test himself.

Also underscores why you can't go with set formulas.

Oh and they did this without Ashwin too.
I still think India's bowling is even more potent with Ashwin in it.

India seems to have learnt the science of removing the tail quickly. We were not good at that till a few years back.

We saw yesterday in another match it’s importance in winning close matches.

Yeah this victory is on Kohli, he timed the declaration to perfection. That never say die attitude of the team is his legacy!

Thanks man. Congrats on such an epic win!

Well done India. That's all I can say. The game seemed done and dusted before Shami and Bumrah got together for that match-turning partnership. But the fighting spirit that India's bowlers showed in this test match (with both bat and ball) was truly remarkable.

People wonder what makes a great team. THIS is what makes a great team. Where every single player feels like he is there for a purpose. Where even a bench-warmer can step into the side and become part of the combination seamlessly. And where a player isn't in the side just because he can take catches in the slips.

After a long time, India had its main pace battery playing together. And it showed.

Indians have mastered the art of making the favoured opposition play defensive cricket against them

We won this test after losing the toss. Last test too could have been won after losing the toss if weather gods were not biased.

I love this wing-and-a-prayer stuff. The crippled Lancaster limping across the Channel on two spluttering engines…..

Yeah I don’t know who got that, but a world war 2 tragic like me did.

I guess the enemy Messerschmitts managed to shoot down the Lancaster? Hopefully the Channel recovery ‘boats’ manage to pick up the pilots for the next Test. Unless they flew right over the white cliffs and landed in some farmer’s field.

Because it’s freezing down there in the waters!

Million Rupee question that. Wonder what the team management was thinking?
Siraj is such a great addition to our pace attack.

Extremely poor decision not to pick him for WTC final.

We defeat English a day after
our Independence day.

What timing!

I feell Root should be MOM....if not for his 180 on the first innings, and also fight inthe second, the match would not have lasted so far

Congratulations to Indian fans and commiserations to Pakistani fans :cobra

Think they didn't give him because he got one in last test.

I feel it should have been Bumrah in first test and Root/Siraj in 2nd test. But happy for KL.

This match also proves that AUS TOUR OF 20-21 was won by Kohli's team , the self belief and fighting spirit are his legacy,Rahane was just at the right place at the right time.

Siraj took 8 wickets in the match. Bowled the opposition out in 2 sessions. Should have been the man of the match. :inti

India play with the right attitude and fully deserve this victory.

Siraj for me is the leader of this attack. He has been immense in both the Aus and this series.

India's last two overseas wins MOM:-

Gabba 2021- Rishabh Pant
Lords 2021- KL Rahul

I remember I predicted at the start of year, 2021 gonna be year for the trio of KL, Pant and Pandya. Looks like we are going on the right way.

:yk

Good teams find a way to win from sticky situations and there is only one good team in this series.

A drained-looking Root admitted he has a lot to learn as skipper, though why he needs to learn more after fifty tests and five years in charge is not clear. He has already had more time in the job than…. well you’d have to go back to Len Hutton in the fifties.

England basically lost this test from a very winnable position in the morning because Bumrah got into the heads of the entire English team with that surprise bodyline bowling against Anderson eventhough he didn't pick a wicket in that entire first innings.

KL Rahul : 'With two competitive teams you're going to see a lot of heart and great skills and some words. We don't mind a bit of banter, but if you go after one of our guys all eleven will come right back."

It's this spirit that I've been longing to see among Indians ever since I started following cricket in the 1980s.

I'm happy it is finally there.

India wont have a better chance to win a series in England simply too strong and all basis covered. Pak can learn from how their seamers finished off the tail there, very professional

Siraj is such a massive upgrade over Umesh. We might have to rest Ishant for next .. depending upon the weather.

Pant hasn't done anything special in this England tour so far though. KL Rahul has a habit of playing a good inning and then following it with couple of average knocks which can be seen in his overall test stats. He played well in this test but as I have always said about him he lacks consistency. As far as Pandya is concerned. He is nowhere near the format you rank so high so I don't know what are you on about? :inti

Our bowlers won this test for us, both with bat and ball.
